Leo Buscaglia

"Love is always bestowed as a gift - freely, willingly and without expectation.
We don't love to be loved; we love to love."

When Leo Buscaglia died in 1998, I felt sad. Sad because I love books and his death means no more books written by him to read.  Felice Leonardo Buscaglia is an Italian author and a motivational speaker. He was born March 31, 1924 and died of heart attack on June 12, 1998.
Our family received a hardcover copy of Bus 9 to Paradise as a gift from Sr Christella in 1988. I have read the book a dozen of time. I read the book when I need to be motivated, inspired and enlightened.  I was 12 years old back then.
The book is at my parents' house. I must hunt for an e-book version of all his books. I think he authored 13 books and I was lucky to read 3 of them -- "Bus 9 to Paradise: A Loving Voyage", "The Fall of Freddie the Leaf: A Story of Life for All Ages" and "Living, Loving and Learning"

MEal Time

I don't mind eating alone. Most of the time, I actually enjoy eating alone. I have friends who would rather starve than eat without a companion. One of the restaurants I frequent for my ME time is Rai Rai Ken in SM Masinag.

Yep, I eat California Maki whenever it's available in the menu.

Chicken Teriyaki ... YUM!

Pray then Eat

Me and hubby met up with my nephew and youngest sister. We heard mass this morning at St Pio of Pietrelcina Chapel in Libis, Quezon City. My petition last April has been granted. We returned to give thanks.

After the mass, we headed to Eastwood for lunch. My sister almost fainted during the mass because of hunger (hehehe)... and to compensate for not eating breakfast...

Hungry is an understatement! :D
Big bite!

The Bourne Legacy Screening

I was invited to watch the screening of The Bourne Legacy at Shangri-la Cineplex presented by Mandaue Foam and Nuffnang yesterday afternoon. It was originally set last Friday but because of the bad weather Manila has experienced this week, it was moved this afternoon.

It was my first time to attend an event hosted by Nuffnang. Nuffnang is Asia-Pacific's first and leading blog advertising community.

Mandaue Foam is one of the country's top furniture stores. The company is known for it's affordable and high quality foam and furniture products.

I got two tickets. My husband accompanied me to the event.

There were Mandaue Foam furniture on display. The sofa set was so comfy.

I featured this recliner from a previous entry . I was glad that Mandaue Foam had it on display yesterday. I need not convince my husband to buy this. He tried this yesterday and he immediately want us to have this.

There's a sofa catalog given out. I'm a regular visitor of their website so most of the stuff in the catalog are already familiar.

Snacks were served at the lobby while we wait for the 4pm screening.

Yummy snacks catered by Dome Cafe

Mandaue Foam also took advantage of this event to extend help to those people affected by the flood and bad weather. Nuffnangers brought relief goods for donation.

We were given this big Fantasy Pillow in return :D

Pororo the Little Penguin

 ~@~@~
Far far away, unknown and untouched by human civilization, lies a peaceful island covered in snow and ice. On this white island, deep inside a small secluded forest, is a tiny village inhabited by little animals. No-one knows how they came to live on the island but they naturally came to live together in the village situated in the little valley where the sunshine is warmest and the cold wind is least harsh. In the village lives Pororo, a very inquisitive impish little penguin, good-natured polar bear Poby, smug nosy red fox Eddy, shy and timid little beaver Loopy, friendly penguin girl Petty and happy humming bird Harry. All of our friends have distinct personalities and different interests which sometimes cause little (and sometimes not so little) happenings in their calm white world. But they are all good friends and know how to help each other in times of trouble.

Pororo the Little Penguin ( 뽀롱뽀롱 뽀로로 ) is aired by Disney Junior Asia every 5pm in the Philippines. The first time I watched this cartoon series, I already became fond of Pororo. I've been wanting to own a plush doll but it was not available in our country. Had I known about Pororo two years ago, I could have requested my husband to buy me the doll when he went to Korea.

Mid July, my husband was to travel to Russia. He told me that he'll have a stopover in Korea. I was really hoping he'll buy me anything Pororo. When he arrived home last night, he got me a souvenir from Russia. A set of Matryoshka Dolls. We had a small chat then went to sleep.

Pororo and Petty
A sweet surprise greeted me when I woke up this morning. These cuties were carefully placed by my husband beside me while I was sleeping. I never thought he'd remember how much I wanted these dolls. He's the sweetest husband.

He said he already saw these dolls while waiting for his connecting flight to Russia. But he bought it during stopover on his return flight.

Pororo is very popular among toddlers and preschoolers in South Korea. He is also well-loved by teenagers. I'm way past that age group but Pororo's cuteness has captured my heart.

Russian Matryoshka Dolls

My husband arrived tonight from a Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk (Сахалин) and brought me home these lovely Matryoshka Dolls (матрёшка) aka Russian Nesting Dolls.

A Matryoshka Doll is a set of doll made of carved wood of decreasing size placed inside the other. The painting on the doll is very elaborate. The designs and themes vary -- from typical peasant girls to Soviet leaders.

Traditionally, the design painted on the doll is that of a woman dressed in sarafan (сарафа́н) a long, trapeze-shaped dress worn by peasant girls.

The church-themed Matryoshka Dolls

I love this set. 10 elaborately designed dolls.

The smallest is the size of a pea but the details of the design were not compromised.

Interesting fact from wikipedia:

Matryoshkas are also used metaphorically, as a design paradigm, known as the "matryoshka principle" or "nested doll principle". It denotes a recognizable relationship of "object-within-similar-object" that appears in the design of many other natural and man-made objects. Examples include the Matrioshka brain and the Matroska media-container format. The "matryoshka principle" is also an example of Mise-en-abyme.

The onion metaphor is of similar character. If the outer layer is peeled off an onion, a similar onion exists within. This structure is employed by designers in applications such as the layering of clothes or the design of tables, where a smaller table sits within a larger table and a yet smaller one within that.

Max's Restaurant Online Delivery

I'm alone for 3 weeks and the weather is bad. I've been relying so much on food delivery. I'm glad Max's Online Delivery is very efficient.

My previous deliveries came from Circumferential Road Branch. And recently, I was told that SM Masinag branch is also delivering :D

The food in these bags kept me alive. Delivered hot and on time in spite of the bad weather.

My favorite Kare-kare :D
