Mastercard has officially named Simon Calasanz as its new Country Manager for the Philippines, bringing with him nearly 20 years of expertise in the local banking and finance sector. His appointment marks a key step in Mastercard’s mission to expand digital payments and strengthen financial inclusion in the country.
Driving Digital Payments and Inclusion
In his new role, Calasanz will focus on accelerating the adoption of digital and contactless payments, especially among small businesses and local merchants. He will also spearhead Mastercard’s efforts to strengthen its position as a multi-rail payments technology company, working closely with partners across industries to advance a cashless economy.

A Proven Leader in Banking and Finance
Calasanz’s impressive career spans leadership roles in some of the country’s biggest financial institutions:
HSBC Group – rose to Senior Vice President for Product Management in Personal Financial Services and later Head of Sales in Retail Banking and Wealth Management.
RCBC Bankard Services Corporation – appointed President in 2015, serving until 2020.
RCBC – promoted to Executive Vice President, Head of Consumer Lending in 2020.
Credit Card Association of the Philippines (2010–2014) – served as President, driving industry-wide initiatives and innovation.
A proud alumnus of De La Salle University, Calasanz holds dual degrees in Commerce (Marketing Management) and Psychology.

Calasanz succeeds Rowell Del Fierro, who led Mastercard Philippines through significant milestones. Under his leadership, the company advanced real-time payments with BancNet, partnered with Land Bank of the Philippines for contactless transit payments, supported SMEs through fintech collaborations, and played a role in the Southeast Asian Games by developing the official event app and payment card.
