Harnessing Solar Power Across East Metro Malls

SM City Marikina, SM City Masinag, SM City San Mateo, and SM Center Antipolo Downtown have joined the renewable energy movement by going solar. These rooftop solar systems generate clean electricity, reduce carbon emissions, and support the Philippines’ shift to sustainable energy.


SM City Marikina: Energized in 2023, this mall produces an average of 106,179 kWh monthly from a 2.259 MWp solar system. That’s enough to power 506 households for a month, or offset 74 tons of carbon dioxide, the equivalent of planting 3,378 mature trees.

SM City Masinag: Fully solar-powered as of March 2025, its 1.696 MWp rooftop system generates 124,366 kWh each month, enough for 592 homes, cutting 86 tons of carbon dioxide emissions similar to planting nearly 4,000 trees.

SM City San Mateo: With an 810 Solar PV system covering 2,092 square meters, the mall produces up to 0.45 MW of energy, enough for 219 households and reducing carbon output by 32 tons, comparable to 1,466 trees.

SM Center Antipolo Downtown: Between 2024 and 2025, its 0.923 MWp system now delivers 71,270 kWh monthly powering 339 homes and offsetting 49 tons of carbon emissions, or planting 2,267 trees.

Collectively, these malls generate nearly 348,000 kWh of renewable energy every month, a major step forward in lowering greenhouse gas emissions while demonstrating that innovation and environmental care can go hand in hand.
