AXA Mind Health Report 2026 Reveals Filipino Stress Trends

Wednesday, June 24, 2026

Feeling stressed has become a common part of modern life, but for many Filipinos, the reality goes far beyond everyday pressure. Financial worries, constant digital connectivity, social uncertainty, and emotional exhaustion are increasingly piling up all at once, leaving little room to recover.

According to the latest AXA Mind Health Report 2026, mental well-being continues to face significant challenges globally and in the Philippines. While there are small signs of improvement in some areas, the report reveals that many Filipinos are still struggling to cope with multiple overlapping pressures that affect their daily lives, relationships, work, and overall well-being.

Mental Health Challenges Continue to Rise Worldwide

AXA's annual Mind Health Report, conducted in partnership with global research firm IPSOS, paints a concerning picture of mental health across the world.

The study found that mental health scores have reached their lowest levels since 2021 in 10 out of the 16 countries surveyed. Nearly half of respondents worldwide, or 46%, reported that they are either struggling or languishing, signaling a continuing decline in psychological well-being.

Researchers point to a growing accumulation of stressors that have become a constant part of everyday life. Economic uncertainty, social tensions, personal challenges, and digital pressures are combining to create a sustained impact on mental health.

Filipinos Continue to Face Persistent Emotional Strain

While the Philippines showed slight improvement in the number of people classified as struggling, the report highlights that emotional well-being remains a significant concern.

About 31% of Filipinos remain in a languishing state, reflecting ongoing difficulties related to financial instability and growing social unrest.

The findings suggest that although progress is possible, it remains fragile. Many Filipinos continue to carry emotional burdens that have become deeply woven into daily life.

For younger generations, the situation appears even more challenging.

Filipino Youth Report High Levels of Loneliness and Sadness

The report found that 72% of Filipino youth experience feelings of loneliness or sadness.

Today's younger generation spends much of their time online, where social interactions, entertainment, education, and personal expression often take place simultaneously. While digital platforms offer connection and convenience, they can also contribute to emotional overload.

Filipino youth now spend an average of 7.5 hours each day in front of screens. More strikingly, 98% say excessive screen time negatively affects their lives.

The effects go beyond simple fatigue.

Many young Filipinos reported experiencing disrupted sleep, difficulty concentrating, heightened stress, anxiety, and emotional exhaustion. These challenges increasingly affect performance in school, productivity at work, and overall daily functioning.

The Hidden Cost of Constant Connectivity

Being online is no longer just a leisure activity. For many people, it has become a requirement for staying informed, connected, and productive.

However, the report suggests that continuous exposure to information, social comparison, and digital stimulation may be making it harder for individuals to disconnect and recharge.

As digital habits intensify, emotional recovery time becomes increasingly limited, creating a cycle of stress that can be difficult to break.

More Filipinos Are Turning to AI for Mental Health Support

As emotional challenges grow, many Filipinos are exploring new ways to manage stress and seek guidance.

One of the most notable findings in the AXA Mind Health Report 2026 is the increasing use of artificial intelligence tools for mental health support.

The study found that 29% of Filipinos regularly use AI-powered tools to help manage their mental well-being, significantly higher than the global average of 21%.

This trend is especially common among individuals aged 18 to 34 and among people who already identify as having a mental health condition.

For many users, AI offers immediate access to information, emotional guidance, and self-help resources that can be accessed anytime.

AI Support Offers Benefits but Also Raises Concerns

While AI tools are becoming part of many people's coping strategies, the report highlights important risks that cannot be ignored.

Around 33% of Filipino users said they felt uneasy or concerned after receiving advice from AI platforms.

More concerning, one in four respondents reported that AI-generated recommendations had led them toward harmful behavior.

These findings reinforce the importance of balancing digital tools with professional mental health support and credible sources of guidance.

As AI becomes more integrated into everyday life, experts continue to stress the need for responsible use and greater awareness of its limitations.

Cost Remains a Major Barrier to Mental Health Care

Unlike many countries where awareness is the primary challenge, Filipinos face a different obstacle when it comes to mental health support.

The report found that affordability remains the biggest barrier preventing people from seeking professional help.

This gap highlights a growing reality: many Filipinos understand the importance of mental well-being and are willing to seek support, but access to services often remains out of reach because of cost and availability.

The findings point to a need for more accessible and affordable mental health solutions that fit the realities of everyday life.

AXA Expands Access to Mental Health Resources

As awareness of mental well-being grows, AXA Philippines continues to broaden access to tools and services designed to help people take proactive steps toward better mental health.

Among its initiatives is the Mind Health Self-Check tool, which allows individuals to assess and monitor their emotional well-being.

The company also offers health plans that include free mental health consultations and coverage for select mental health conditions, helping make professional support more accessible to customers.

These efforts reflect a wider shift toward integrating mental well-being into overall health protection and encouraging earlier intervention before challenges escalate.

Building a Culture of Early Support

For Ayman Kandil, President and CEO of AXA Philippines, the findings reveal that emotional strain is becoming more complex and widespread.

"This year's findings show that stress is no longer showing up one challenge at a time. Filipinos are carrying multiple pressures at once and still trying to keep up with school, work, and daily life. When emotional strain starts affecting how people function every day, support cannot wait for burnout or crisis. We need to make it easier for people to seek help early and nurture communities where mental well-being is treated as a shared responsibility," said Kandil.

His message reflects a growing recognition that mental health is not solely an individual concern but a collective responsibility shared by families, workplaces, schools, communities, and institutions.

The Need for Stronger Mental Health Support in the Philippines

The AXA Mind Health Report 2026 highlights a reality that many Filipinos already experience daily. Emotional stress is no longer driven by a single challenge but by multiple pressures happening at the same time.

From financial concerns and social uncertainty to digital overload and emotional fatigue, today's mental health landscape requires more than awareness alone. It calls for practical support, affordable services, healthier environments, and greater compassion.

As conversations around mental well-being continue to evolve, creating accessible pathways to support may be one of the most important investments individuals, organizations, and communities can make for a healthier future.
