What happens when Bossing Vic Sotto walks into Ninong Ry’s kitchen?

A Chinese feast, plenty of stories, and a conversation that offers a rare look at one of Philippine entertainment’s most enduring personalities.

The two familiar faces recently came together for a special collaboration with Hanabishi Appliances, with Ninong Ry putting his kitchen skills to work while using several Hanabishi appliances to prepare a Chinese-inspired spread for Sotto.

The episode, which is available on Ninong Ry’s YouTube channel, has already surpassed 4 million views as of the time of writing.

The collaboration comes as Hanabishi marks its 40th anniversary, bringing together two personalities who have had long-standing relationships with the appliance brand.

Ninong Ry cooks up a Chinese spread

The episode begins in the kitchen, where Ninong Ry prepares several dishes with a lineup of Hanabishi appliances.

Among them is Fried Mantou, made with the Hanabishi Professional Stand Mixer Master Series 5L HPSTMIX-50 and Food Steamer HFS85.

The Food Steamer also comes into play for the steamed fish, while Ninong Ry prepares his version of Dong Po Pork using the Hanabishi 18-in-1 Electric Pressure Cooker HDIGPC-18IN1 and Hanabishi Juice Extractor HPJ750SS.

The cooking segment gives viewers a practical look at how different appliances can be used across multiple stages of preparing a meal, from mixing and steaming to pressure cooking.

For a content creator whose appeal is closely tied to approachable food and humor, the kitchen setting also provides a natural backdrop for the collaboration.

Vic Sotto talks about his entertainment journey

Once the food is ready, Sotto and Ninong Ry sit down for a conversation that goes beyond the usual celebrity appearance.

Sotto talks about his early years in show business, including how he initially entered the entertainment industry through music before moving into comedy and eventually appearing in a gag show with his brothers.

He also reflects on how comedy has changed over the years and shares memories from the early days of Eat Bulaga, which began airing in 1979.

The conversation gives viewers a glimpse into the career of a performer who has spent decades working across music, comedy, television and film.

Sotto also looks ahead to the noontime show's upcoming 50th anniversary.

A collaboration built around longevity

For Hanabishi, bringing Sotto and Ninong Ry together was particularly fitting as the Filipino appliance brand celebrates four decades in the market.

Sotto has been a Hanabishi brand ambassador for many years, while Ninong Ry has also worked with the brand on multiple occasions.

“Bossing Vic has been a brand ambassador of Hanabishi for many years already, and we have worked with Ninong Ry countless times. Bringing them together was a dream collaboration for us as we mark our 40th year,” said Cherish Ong-Chua, Hanabishi Appliances Vice President for Finance and Marketing.

During the conversation, Sotto drew a comparison between Hanabishi and Eat Bulaga, pointing to the longevity of both the brand and the television program.

“Parang Eat Bulaga ang Hanabishi,” Sotto said. “For 40 years, subok na ng buong bayan.”

He also recalled hearing from people about the durability of Hanabishi appliances and how some products have remained in use for years.

For Hanabishi, that idea of familiarity and long-term use is central to the brand's 40th-anniversary celebration.

“As we celebrate our 40th year this year, we thank all the people who have partnered with us like Bossing Vic and Ninong Ry, and everyone who has chosen Hanabishi as their ka-partner in their homes and even their offices,” Ong-Chua said.

The collaboration ultimately brings together three familiar elements of Filipino popular culture: food, comedy and the comfort of personalities audiences have followed for years.

And with millions of views already, the Bossing Vic and Ninong Ry episode appears to have found an audience well beyond the kitchen.
