A toothbrush that can see between your teeth sounds like something from a futuristic bathroom. Dyson is making that idea a reality with the new Dyson CameraJet, an electric toothbrush equipped with a camera and machine learning designed to identify gaps between teeth and direct a precision jet of mouthrinse at them while you brush.
Dyson introduced the CameraJet in Paris on September 1, 2026. The company says the device is the result of six years of research and development and combines a 100,000-pixel macro camera, machine learning, sonic brushing and a targeted mouthrinse jet in one connected dental system.
The bigger story, however, is not simply another high-tech toothbrush. Dyson is trying to address one of the most easily overlooked parts of an everyday oral-care routine: the spaces between the teeth.
Why is Dyson putting a camera inside a toothbrush?
Brushing your teeth is something most people do automatically. Knowing whether you are actually reaching every area is another matter.
Dyson's CameraJet uses what the company calls Gap Optical Targeting, a machine-learning system that analyzes images from the toothbrush's integrated camera. According to Dyson, the camera captures 28 live images per second and can identify, track and predict gaps between teeth. When a gap is detected, the system triggers a targeted burst of mouthrinse.
In simple terms, the toothbrush is designed to determine where you need extra cleaning rather than simply delivering the same brushing action everywhere.
That distinction is what makes the CameraJet different from a conventional electric toothbrush.
What is Gap Optical Targeting?
Gap Optical Targeting is Dyson's machine-learning technology for identifying spaces between teeth. The CameraJet uses a 100,000-pixel macro camera to scan the mouth in real time. Dyson says the system can detect a gap and activate its precision jet within 100 milliseconds.
The system was trained using 470,000 dental images collected during development, according to Dyson.
The problem Dyson is trying to solve
Interdental cleaning refers to cleaning the spaces between teeth, where an ordinary toothbrush may not reach effectively.
It is also an important part of oral hygiene. The World Health Organization says oral diseases affect an estimated 3.7 billion people worldwide, while tooth decay and periodontal, or gum, disease remain among the most common oral-health conditions.
WHO also emphasizes that many oral-health conditions are preventable and that removing plaque is an important part of maintaining healthy teeth and gums.
That helps explain the thinking behind Dyson's approach.
Instead of asking users to remember several separate steps, the CameraJet attempts to combine brushing and interdental cleaning into a single routine.
How does the Dyson CameraJet work?
The CameraJet combines several technologies in one device.
A camera that looks inside your mouth
The integrated camera works like a miniature endoscope. It provides a live view that users can access through the MyDyson app.
Dyson says the camera is active only during live viewing or automatic jetting. The company also states that images are not recorded or stored on the device or in the cloud.
That privacy detail is worth noting because putting a camera inside an everyday personal-care device naturally raises questions about where those images go.
A targeted mouthrinse jet
Once the system identifies an interdental gap, the CameraJet sends a conical burst of mouthrinse toward it.
Dyson says it developed the jet after years of fluid-dynamics testing. The company compared its design with the narrower “needle-type” jets commonly associated with water flossers and developed a wider conical spray intended to cover more of the targeted area at lower pressure.
The device has a 12.5ml mouthrinse tank, which Dyson says is designed to provide the amount needed during a cleaning session.
A brush head designed around the shape of teeth
The brush head uses two types of bristles.
The firmer inner bristles are intended to address surface stains, while softer outer bristles are designed to clean around the gumline.
Dyson has also developed a sensitive version for people who need a gentler brushing experience. Each brush head has an RFID tag that tracks usage and alerts users when replacement is needed, according to the company.
What makes the CameraJet different from a regular electric toothbrush?
The biggest difference is feedback.
A conventional electric toothbrush provides the brushing action. Some connected toothbrushes already provide information about brushing time, pressure or coverage.
The CameraJet adds another layer by using a camera to identify specific areas between the teeth and then responding to what it sees.
The MyDyson app also provides guided cleaning, brushing and flossing insights, coverage mapping and personalized feedback. Users can choose between automatic detection and manual jetting modes and adjust brushing intensity.
That makes the CameraJet less like a simple appliance and more like a connected oral-care system.
Does it replace flossing?
This is where consumers should be careful with the marketing language.
Dyson describes the CameraJet as precision-flossing between teeth while brushing. However, the device should not be interpreted as a substitute for professional dental care.
The broader principle remains straightforward: daily brushing and cleaning between teeth are important parts of oral hygiene, and regular dental checkups remain necessary.
For anyone with gum disease, dental implants, orthodontic appliances, sensitive teeth or other dental concerns, the appropriate cleaning method can vary. A dentist or dental hygienist can provide advice based on an individual's needs.
Dyson is also changing the rest of the brushing routine
The CameraJet is part of a larger Dyson Dental System, rather than a standalone toothbrush.
The system includes a charging dock, travel case, toothpaste and mouthrinse designed to work with the CameraJet. Dyson's toothpaste uses a non-foaming formulation, which the company says helps keep foam from interfering with the camera's view.
The charging dock is also designed to refill the device with mouthrinse at the touch of a button.
That approach is very Dyson: instead of adding one feature to an existing product, the company is redesigning the surrounding routine as well.
Could smart oral care become the next connected-health category?
The CameraJet arrives at an interesting time for personal technology.
Smartwatches already monitor activity, sleep and other health-related measurements. Smartphone apps can track nutrition and exercise. Now, oral care is becoming another area where sensors, cameras and software can provide users with feedback about everyday habits.
Dyson's approach is particularly notable because the technology is focused on technique and coverage, not simply adding another timer to a toothbrush.
That could make connected oral care more useful if consumers actually act on the information provided.
At the same time, more technology does not automatically mean better oral health. The value of a smart toothbrush ultimately depends on whether it helps people establish consistent habits and whether its claims hold up under independent evaluation.
When will Dyson CameraJet be available in the Philippines?
For Philippine consumers, there is still one important detail to watch.
The September 1 announcement states that the launch date for the Dyson Dental System in the Philippines is subject to market availability, with pricing still to be determined.
That means there is currently no Philippine price or confirmed local release date to report.
Consumers interested in the product can register their interest through Dyson Philippines and monitor the brand's official channels for local availability.
Dyson has already made the CameraJet available in other markets as part of its broader Dental System. Its official global announcement lists the CameraJet, charging dock, travel case, toothpaste and mouthrinse as the system's components.
For Philippine shoppers, the more practical question may eventually be whether the additional technology justifies the price compared with a conventional premium electric toothbrush and separate interdental-cleaning tools.
That answer will depend on the final local pricing, availability of consumables and, eventually, how independently tested performance compares with existing products.
