Young Marikenyo Wins Big at SM Super Spelling Bee in SM City Marikina
Marikina has long been known as the “Shoe Capital of the Philippines,” but last September 6, 2025, it was also home to some of the sharpest young minds in spelling. The SM Super Spelling Bee Elimination Round took over the Ground Level hallway of SM City Marikina near Ace Hardware, where over 180 Grade 5 and 6 students showed off not just their spelling skills but also their confidence, wit, and love for words.
A Celebration of Young Minds
The competition, open to students aged 10 to 12, drew enthusiastic support from parents, teachers, and mallgoers who cheered loudly after every correct answer. The event’s vibrant energy turned the mall into more than just a shopping hub—it became a stage for academic excellence and youthful confidence.
After several nail-biting rounds, Zarex Celis of Sta. Elena Elementary School emerged as the champion of SM City Marikina’s leg of the spelling bee, proudly representing the city in the next round of the competition.
A Growing Tradition Across SM Supermalls
Now in its second year, the SM Super Spelling Bee continues to grow, with 40 SM Supermalls nationwide participating this 2025. More than just a contest, it’s a platform that celebrates the joy of words while giving classroom champions a chance to shine.
This year is even more special as the competition coincides with SM Supermalls’ 40th anniversary—a milestone that highlights SM’s role not only in shopping and dining but also in fostering learning, creativity, and meaningful family experiences.
Partners in Learning
The event was made possible through the support of partners who share SM’s vision of nurturing the next generation: National Book Store, National University, Power Mac Center, and Jollibee. Together, they help create opportunities where kids can grow their confidence and showcase their talents.
Congratulations, Zarex!
With his impressive win, Zarex Celis is proof that Marikeños can shine in every field—whether it’s sports, arts, or academics. We wish him the best of luck as he advances to the next round of the SM Super Spelling Bee, carrying the pride of Marikina with him.
