Where To Eat in Marikina: Mogu Tree Noodle House

11/3/14

Lilac Street in Hacienda Heights is becoming popular because of the restaurants sprouting in the area. I've read good reviews and I've heard words of praise from friends about Mogu Tree Noodle House. Even my physical therapist's little daughter love to eat here I was told. One afternoon, I texted my sister and told her to bring along my nephew and my dad for a food adventure.

I already know what I want days in advance. They say the Laksa is a must try. When I asked the attendants about their bestseller, I was told it's the Laksa. So I must have the Laksa.

Laksa is a popular spicy noodle soup in the Peranakan cuisine, which is a combination of Chinese and Malay cuisine. It can be found in Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laksa)

Step One: Choose a noodle

Whenever I am unsure of what goes well on DIY food, I always ask the food attendant to help me decide. For my laksa, he said the popular choice is the Ramen Noodles. I was actually thinking of going against the popular choice and try the spinach noodles because it's somewhat unusual. But I did not. May be next time.

Step Two: Choose the toppings

I needed help in step two. There are so many choices and if only I was allowed to sample all of them. I ordered the three toppings. Any additional toppings will cost you P30.

This is the curry laksa. A bit spicy with a rich taste of coconut milk. All the toppings that the attendant chose for me were delish. I had mozzarella cheese ball, crabstick, seafood bun, sea urchin, beef ball and crab roe bun. My top three favorite among the toppings are the mozzarella cheese ball, the sea urchin and the crab roe bun. A satisfying three toppings bowl of laksa costs P175.

My sister and nephew ordered the Pork Asado Claypot Rice. A very generous serving for P165.

My dad ordered the Smoked Chicken Claypot Rice. A bit on the bland side but the sauce provided did the trick. A serving of this dish costs P160.

They also have some interesting products for sale.

Verdict: I'll definitely eat here again. And I want more mozzarella cheese balls!
