Izakaya Sensu: My Japanese Gastropub Experience in BGC

8/12/16

Raintree Restaurants Group brings you a Japanese gastropub concept with the opening of Izakaya Sensu at the Net Park Building in BGC, Taguig last July. This is actually a two restaurant concept -- Izakaya Sensu and Chotto Matte. Izayaka means "i" to stay and sakaya "sake shop" in Japanese. Chotto Matte means "wait a second".  Izakaya offers your Japanese food favorites like tempura, yakitori, sushi, sashimi and rolls while Chotto Matte has cool cocktails, beers, liquors, artisanal sake and the Kakubin highballs.

I love the warm, cozy ambiance. It is very conducive for a laid back meal after a busy work day. It is also an ideal place to catch up with friends.

You can also opt to dine in this area and enjoy your sashimi.

If you prefer private dining, this room can accommodate 8-10 people. You can have a lunch meeting or celebrate life's milestone with the closest people in your life.

The Food

Makimono is one of my Japanese comfort foods. I tried Izakaya's Sensu Roll. It is composed of two variants. One is tempura asparagus with spicy mayo and topped with spicy tuna, green chili slice and unagi sauce. The other roll is crabmeat mayonnaise with Yuzu skin topped with mango, flying fish roe and unagi sauce. The two rolls complement each other. One has a spicy kick while the other is sweet and savory. It will cost you PhP575 for the dozen.

Another personal favorite is the yakitori. We ordered the Yakitori Omakase 7 which is the Daily Chef Selection of 7 sticks. Price range per stick is from PhP40-75.

Who doesn't love salmon?! The Shake Saikyou-Yaki is broiled Norwegian Salmon with Saikyou miso.  A generous serving will cost you PhP450.

It's my first time to taste Hirame Sugata-Age. This dish is deep-fried flatfish nuggets on a noodle basket with ponzu dip. An order costs PhP695 and is definitely good for sharing.

Dessert

I always claim that I am not a dessert type of person but I noticed I am now starting to enjoy desserts. The Matcha Chiffon Cake is so fluffy and delicately flavored that I enjoyed every bite. I enjoyed this with SENSU iced tea since I am not a coffee drinker.

The Miso Chocolate Cake is something that would make me brave the traffic from Antipolo to BGC. I really fell in love with this dessert. Kinda pricey for PhP355 but I will not mind for a piece of gastronomic heaven.

Nomimono (Drinks)

I had the Mango Orange Yakult Smoothie while my companions had Matcha Latte Shake and Four in Season.

The Sensu Iced Tea is a refreshing mix of mandarin orange juice, sweet green tea and fresh citrus.
