The OMRON Complete combines blood pressure measurement and single-lead electrocardiogram (ECG) recording, expanding access to at-home heart monitoring through Mercury Drug branches.
OMRON Healthcare Philippines has introduced the OMRON Complete, a device that combines blood pressure monitoring and electrocardiogram (ECG) recording, at Mercury Drug stores nationwide.
The launch brings two heart-monitoring functions into one device, allowing users to measure their blood pressure and record an ECG at home. The ECG feature can help identify signs of atrial fibrillation (AFib), an irregular heart rhythm associated with an increased risk of stroke and other complications.
The product's availability highlights how consumer health technology and established pharmacy networks can work together to support more convenient monitoring outside clinical settings.
Combining Blood Pressure and Heart Rhythm Monitoring
Hypertension and atrial fibrillation can go undetected because they may not cause noticeable symptoms. Monitoring blood pressure and recognizing possible heart rhythm abnormalities are therefore important components of preventive care, particularly for people with elevated cardiovascular risk.
The OMRON Complete combines blood pressure measurement with a single-lead ECG function in one unit. Users can record readings at home and use the information to support discussions with their healthcare providers.
However, home monitoring is not a substitute for a medical assessment. An ECG reading that suggests AFib requires appropriate clinical evaluation, while a normal result does not rule out every heart rhythm problem. Users should continue to follow their doctors' advice on screening, medication and follow-up care.
Partnership Connects Technology, Pharmacies and Medical Expertise
The launch was made possible through a partnership involving OMRON Healthcare, Mercury Drug and Medical Center Trading Corporation (MCTC), with Collins also named in the initiative's closing statement.
The collaboration brings together a health-monitoring technology provider, a nationwide pharmacy network and medical distribution expertise to make heart-monitoring devices more accessible to Filipino consumers.
Jaime Espiritu, Mercury Drug vice president for operations, said reliable home-monitoring tools can help people recognize potential health concerns earlier and seek appropriate care.
Jim Martin Ancla, sales manager at OMRON Healthcare, likewise emphasized the shared goal of making dependable heart-health solutions more accessible through technology, pharmacies and medical expertise.
The partnership also underscores the role pharmacies can play in helping consumers understand monitoring devices and seek professional guidance when readings raise concerns.
Pharmacists Highlighted in Early Detection Efforts
During the launch at the Mercury Drug branch in Shangri-La Plaza, Dr. Marlon T. Co, cardiologist and treasurer of the Philippine Society of Hypertension, discussed the importance of detecting hypertension and AFib early.
Co highlighted the relationship between high blood pressure and atrial fibrillation, noting that hypertension is a major modifiable risk factor for the condition. He also discussed how ECG screening among hypertensive and other high-risk patients may help identify AFib that has not yet produced obvious symptoms.
He pointed to devices that combine blood pressure monitoring and single-lead ECG recording as tools that can support screening outside hospitals.
Co also emphasized the role of pharmacists in helping patients understand their prescribed medicines, use monitoring tools correctly and seek appropriate medical advice.
While the launch statement cited validation studies and high sensitivity and specificity figures for ECG-based AFib detection, those figures should be interpreted in the context of the specific device, study population and testing conditions. Consumers should consult the product's official clinical documentation for the applicable performance data.
OMRON Also Showcases Another Connected Monitor
OMRON also presented the HEM-7383T1, a blood pressure monitor designed to identify irregular heart rhythms while measuring blood pressure.
Both devices work with the OMRON Connect app, which allows users to track and share health data with doctors or caregivers. Maintaining a record of readings can help support consultations, particularly when healthcare professionals need to review measurements over time rather than rely on a single result.
As with any home-monitoring system, users should follow the manufacturer's instructions and their healthcare provider's recommendations. Device readings and app records are intended to support care, not independently establish a diagnosis or determine treatment.
