Fifty Best’s Best White Rum Awards
Tanduay continues its winning streak in the international arena as its Tanduay Asian Rum Silver recently received a double-gold medal from The Fifty Best’s Best White Rum Awards in New York.

The Fifty Best.com is a US-based digital guide to wines and spirits that feature rated listings. Its blind tastings are done by wine/spirits journalists, spirits professionals, wine/spirit retailers, mixologists, spirits consultants, and connoisseurs. It observes “the highest standards of spirits evaluations by adhering to strict tasting rules and rigorous methodology.”

For its Best White Rum Awards for 2020, 15 members from its spirits judging panel held a blind tasting of several white rums from different countries. They were served each rum at slightly above temperature, with each product coming from newly sealed bottles.

The judges then wrote down their impressions on score sheets, with five points as the highest score. Once the scores were tallied, The Fifty Best handed out the following awards accordingly: Double-Gold, Gold, and Silver.

“Every international recognition that Tanduay receives reflects the hard work and passion of its Filipino craftsmen and the company’s aim to produce world-class quality prod-ucts. With this award, we are further encouraged to work even harder to deliver the best products to our loyal consumers here in the Philippines and our growing customer base abroad,” said Paul Lim, Chief Marketing Officer of Tanduay.

Tanduay Asian Rum, which is distilled from heritage Asian sugarcane, was noted for its “Black Haus Blackberry Schnapps, pear, tangerine, lime, agave, elderflower, rosehips, subtle sweet orange blossom, florist shop, nutty, nutmeg, cedar” aroma, among others.

As for the palate, it was observed to have a “smooth and wonderfully complex” taste. It also had a “caramel, butterscotch, buttery, molasses, lightly burnt sugar, dates, piña colada, raw coconut, coconut water, whipped cream, vanilla, shortbread, floral, herbaceous, peppermint, nutmeg, tobacco, and dark wood” flavor.

In the judges’ summary, Tanduay Asian Rum was also noted for being “great for cocktails.” It had a “coconut, piña colada, banana peel, fruit wraps, demerara sugar, marz-pan, butter cookie, buttery, leather, mint, grassy, spicy, white pepper, mineral, creamy, and smooth” finish.
