AXA aims for a plastic-free community with PCEx partnership

According to the United Nations, the period 2011-2020 was the warmest decade on record. Plastic production and disposal is responsible for more than 850 million tons of greenhouse gases in 2019, making global temperature warmer. The increasing land and ocean temperatures lead to rising sea levels, extreme weather events, more economic losses, and lives at risk.

The Philippines is one of the highly vulnerable countries to the impact of climate change. Aiming to help address climate change by reducing plastic waste and becoming a plastic neutral company, AXA Philippines, one of the country’s leading insurance providers, has partnered with Plastic Credit Exchange (PCEx), a non-profit organization that seeks out the most environmentally sound solutions to lessen plastic waste. With this partnership, AXA commits to remove 100 tons of plastic from the community.

“At AXA, we are committed to achieving sustainability. Our partnership with PCEx is an opportunity for Filipinos to be part of the movement to minimize plastic waste and help address global warming, while providing a source of livelihood for women. We all have a shared responsibility in taking care of our planet and we are grateful for the partnership with PCEx,” said Rahul Hora, AXA Philippines President and CEO.

Under the partnership, AXA and PCEx will work together for the “AlingTindera” program, which is a waste-to-cash program that provides women with work while also enabling them to make an impact on the environment. Aside from that, AXA Philippines will also be setting up plastic waste collection points to reach their goal of removing 100 tons of plastic. The stations for plastic waste collection are at SM Mall of Asia, SM Megamall, SM North EDSA, SM Marikina, SM East Ortigas, and SM City Fairview.

AXA Philippines and PCEx also previously implemented a promo for the insurer’s customers, wherein AXA donated 15 kg of recyclable plastic materials to PCEx on the customer’s behalf when they registered on the Emma by AXA website or app.

As part of AXA Philippines’ commitment to not only lessen plastic waste but also reduce paper waste, the Emma by AXA web or app allows customers to purchase insurance online, submit claims, view their e-policy and receipts as well as update their policy information. This was part of AXA’s launch of paperless communications last year wherein tons of paper will be saved every year since all of its all transactions to customers are now sent via email and notifications via the Emma by AXA app and website.
