Bond over food with these must try restaurants at SM City San Mateo

12/17/22

Christmas is not just a season of giving. It's also a season of eating! Filipinos love to bond with family and friends over food. I know how much you missed eating out with the gang so I'm sharing with you four must-try restaurants at SM City San Mateo.

Lau Pa Sat

Every time I go to Singapore, I spend more time (and money) eating than shopping. I'm planning of visiting the Lion City next year because I've been craving for their food. When I learned about Lau Pa Sat I got really excited. The menu is not yet extensive because of the limited kitchen space but you'll get to experience the best of Singapore food.

The famous Hainanese Chicken Rice is usually the first dish every tourist try upon arriving in Singapore. I remember when I visited Singapore in 2007 with my sisters, we just dropped our luggages in the hotel and went straight to a nearby foodcourt to eat this. I must say Lau Pa Sat's version of this dish is perfect for the Filipino palate. Mas malinamnam!

I have eaten countless bowls of laksa BUT this Prawn Laksa has the perfect balance of flavor. The coconut cream is not overpowering. The curry has the right amount of spiciness which allows you to savor the broth. Honestly the best I've tasted. I was able to finish this bowl even after devouring the Hainanese Chicken Rice. This landed a spot in my comfort food list.

It's my first time to try Prawn Hokkien Mee so I have no idea how it tastes like in Singapore. It's sweet and salty and the Sambal sauce gives it a little kick of spiciness.

The big surprise for me is the Singapore Seafood Tom Yum. It's like Filipino Sinigang but super level up! This is the specialty of Lau Pa Sat's owner. A dish she should be proud of. I'll have a dilemma the next time I visit Lau Pa Sat --- laksa or tom yum???!!!

BUT I will definitely order the Roti Prata. I have tried Roti Prata from a small Indian restaurant in Bugis which I crave most of the time whenever it crosses my mind.

The owner and the chef are both genuinely nice. Mararamdaman mo yun eh! That is why the restaurant exudes a positive vibe and the food tastes so good.

Passenger Seat

I love themed-restaurant and Passenger Seat is definitely instagram worthy. It offers family favorite Filipino dishes and international appetizers as well at an affordable price.

Passenger Seat has 6 Solo Boodle Flight to choose from.

FLT 001 Grilled Liempo, Chicken Inasal, Shanghai, Salted Egg, Ensalada and Rice
FLT 002 Grilled Liempo, Buttered Shrimp, Shanghai, Fried Eggplant, Salted Egg, Ensalada and Rice
FLT 003 Grilled Tilapia, Chicken Inasal, Shanghai, Fried Eggplant, Salted Egg, Ensalada and Rice

The International Flights menu dishes are named after famous tourist destinations around the world. Mexico City is nachos with homemade salsa, beef, onion, and topped with cheese. Oklahoma is twister fries while Brussels is special cheesy beef fries. There is also Paris (salted fries), Denver (chicken nuggets), and London (crispy fish fillet and fries). For the pasta, France has squid and shrimp with red sauce, Rome is white sauce with bacon, mushroom and ham, and Italy is pasta in olive oil with garlic, chili flakes, mushroom, bell pepper and shrimp.

Fresh Seafood in a Box

Their newest addition is the Pasahero Box. it is fresh seafood in a box that you can also conveniently take out or delivered. This is great for potluck or simply enjoyed at home with the family.

Buffalo's Wings N' Things

Buffalo's Wings N' Things SM City San Mateo

Who can say no to a deep fried chicken wings smothered with savory flavors? I know that these wings are to be enjoyed on its own but me being a carb-loading Filipino sometimes eat these with rice :)

Buffalo's Wings N' Things made chicken wings more interesting by having an assortment of flavors chicken lovers can choose from. It's a perfect hang-out place for the barkada so that you can try as many flavors as you want. My all-time favorites are honey BBQ and Garlic Parmesan while my husband loves Armaggedon.

For the ultimate meal experience, pair your chicken wings with the creamy mushroom n' bacon pasta and have some bacon n' cheese fries and chili n' cheese nachos on the side.

Here's a sulit holiday promo from Buffalo's Wings N' Things -- the Family faves Holi-Yay for only P1,499. The bundle includes (2) 8 pieces Champion Buffalo Wings, Creamy Mushroom N' Bacon Pasta, Choice of appetizer, 4 cups of rice, and 4 12oz Downtown Iced tea.

Czaczacza Cafe

A meal isn't complete without dessert. Make sure your stomach still have some space to cap off the day with coffee and cake or donuts at The Taste of Czaczacza Cafe. The founder and CEO Chef Czarina Jagto Sevilla is also the owner of Avocadoria.

I only love cheesecakes but when I tasted the Pistachio Sansrival of Czaczacza Cafe, I raved about it to my family and friends. I even visited their Marikina branch recently to satisfy my craving.

If you can't decide which cake to get, have a slice of each flavor. My mother-in-law loves the Ube Leche Flan Cake. You can never go wrong with the moist Dark Chocolate Rum Cake.

Also perfect with coffee is their donuts. These luscious treat was trending online during the lockdown. You must try to understand why people has been ordering these donuts.
