Filipino and International Acts Celebrate in Manila
SB19 and Apl.de.Ap bring the party atmosphere in the music video for their collaboration "Ready," a summery dance-pop track released under Sony Music Entertainment.
The video, directed by American filmmaker Ben Mor, showcases a massive house party, a concept explained by Apl.de.Ap: "The idea is the guys [SB19] have been away and come back to throw a huge party." While filmed in Manila, the location is intentionally ambiguous, with a focus on a "maximalist design" that reflects SB19's status as an international act.
A Longtime Collaboration
Ben Mor, known for directing videos for major artists like Katy Perry and Black Eyed Peas (Apl.de.Ap's group), helmed the "Ready" MV. Apl.de.Ap considers Mor a close collaborator, praising his ability to capture the Philippines' unique design aesthetic.
"We've worked together for years," Apl.de.Ap revealed. "The shoot was crazy because right after, he had to film another video in Athens!"
Despite the tight schedule, both SB19 and Apl.de.Ap are happy with the final product. The Filipino-American rapper aimed to showcase a different side of the Philippines: "The house has a cool vibe, but I let the professionals take it from there."
A Fun and Different Experience
For SB19's Pablo, the creative process for "Ready" was a new experience. "We usually work with a storyboard, but this was more Westernized," he explained. He praised Apl.de.Ap's positive energy and the dedication of the dancers and crew: "There was never a dull moment!"
Justin, SB19's youngest member, echoed Pablo's sentiment. While they're used to story-driven MVs, "Ready" offered a refreshing change: "It felt like we were just having fun, not working at all!"
"Ready" marks a significant collaboration between P-Pop's SB19 and international hip-hop star Apl.de.Ap. The song, written by Apl.de.Ap with Jean-Baptiste, Vince Nantes, and Denzel, captures the essence of summer with its catchy dance beat. SB19's Pablo and Josue (Radkidz) also contributed to the production, adding their own sonic touches.
