The storm, intensified by the enhanced southwest monsoon, triggered flash floods and landslides, displacing countless residents and leaving many in dire straits. The devastation was particularly severe in Marikina City, known for its susceptibility to flooding during heavy rainfall.
To address the urgent needs of those impacted by the disaster, SM Cares swiftly mobilized its resources through Operation Tulong Express (OPTE). Dedicated employee volunteers from SM City Marikina and SM City San Mateo joined forces to distribute Kalinga packs to hundreds of families in Barangay Nangka, Malanday, and Tumana in Marikina, as well as Barangay Ampid Uno in San Mateo.
