BDO Partners with DMW to Drive OFW Entrepreneurial Success Through BALIK KAbayan Bazaar

The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) in the Philippines plays a crucial role in safeguarding the rights and welfare of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs). One of its primary functions is to facilitate the successful reintegration of these individuals upon their return to the country. The DMW's Reintegration Program offers services designed to help OFWs transition smoothly back into Philippine society. Banco de Oro (BDO) has been a steadfast supporter of OFWs and takes part in their reintegration. Through its comprehensive range of financial services and unwavering commitment to OFW welfare, BDO has empowered countless individuals to achieve financial stability and build prosperous futures.

The BALIK KAbayan Bazaar is a significant initiative by the DMW to support returning OFWs in transitioning to entrepreneurship. By providing a platform for these OFW-entrepreneurs to showcase and sell their products, the DMW aims to empower them to become financially independent and contribute to the Philippine economy.

Teresita Romilla, a former OFW from Marikina City, shared that she used her personal Cash Loan from BDO to start her bedroom slippers and sandals business. She also mentioned that the seminars conducted by BDO about financial literacy has helped her a lot not just in running her business but also instilled in her the importance of saving up.

BDO Unibank SAVP and Overseas Filipino Programs Unit Head Rene Abadilla mentioned that BDO and DMW partnership started in 2008.

"Sa pamamagitan ng DMW nabigyan kami ng opportunity na tumulong sa mga kababayan nating OFWs habang sila ay nasa balik manggagawa. Sa kanilang pagbabalik hangad naming ma-impart sa kanila ang wastong pag-alaga ng kanilang pinaghirapang pera at narito ang BDO para suportahan sila sa pagtupad ng kanilang pangarap"  - Rene Abadilla

Abadilla has also shared that BDO is delighted to witness the launch of our OFWs businesses. BDO
provided the negosyo booths that the OFWs can use for free.

The BALIK KAbayan Bazaar was officially launched by Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo J. Cacdac, Assistant Secretary for Reintegration Venecio V. Legaspi, BDO SAVP/OFPU Head Rene Abadilla, PNB President Florido Casuela, and senior DMW officers.

Overall, the BALIK KAbayan Bazaar is a valuable initiative that supports the entrepreneurial aspirations of returning OFWs and promotes economic development in the Philippines. By providing a platform for these entrepreneurs to showcase their products and connect with potential customers, the DMW and BDO are empowering them to become self-sufficient and contribute positively to their communities.
