“Pasko sa Nayon” theme brings warmth, heritage, and elegance to the season

The holiday season officially begins at The Manila Hotel, which recently transformed its iconic Grand Lobby into a breathtaking display of light, culture, and Filipino craftsmanship for its annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony.

This year’s theme, “Pasko sa Nayon,” beautifully captures the nostalgia of a traditional Filipino Christmas  where community, generosity, and togetherness shine as brightly as the tree itself. Guests, dignitaries, and members of the media gathered for a heartwarming celebration that radiated both elegance and national pride.

A Tree that Honors Filipino Craftsmanship

Standing tall as the centerpiece of the event was the hotel’s majestic Christmas Tree, designed by Rachy Cuna, The Manila Hotel’s Social Director and Design Consultant.

Adorned with handcrafted ornaments, woven baskets, horse figures, and puso-inspired décor (the traditional rice pouch made from woven coconut leaves), the tree paid tribute to Filipino artisanship and creativity. Its rich color palette of red, gold, and green perfectly complemented the hotel’s timeless sophistication, creating a display that was both festive and distinctly Filipino.

A Gathering of Leaders and Luminaries

The lighting ceremony was attended by The Manila Hotel’s Board of Directors, led by Chairman Basilio C. Yap, President Atty. Jose D. Lina, Jr., Executive Vice President Dr. Enrique Y. Yap, Jr., Director Atty. Salvador C. Medialdea, and Vice President for Sales and Marketing Marvin Kim Tan.

They were joined by esteemed guests from the City of Manila, including Mayor Francisco “Isko” Moreno Domagoso, Vice Mayor Angela Lei “Chi” Atienza, and representatives from the Department of Tourism and Intramuros Administration  underscoring the event’s cultural and civic significance.

As the tree was illuminated, the Office of the President Chorale serenaded attendees with beloved Christmas carols, filling the Grand Lobby with music and nostalgia that perfectly captured the heart of Filipino Christmas.

A Celebration Rooted in Compassion and Community

Beyond the sparkling lights and elegant décor, The Manila Hotel’s tree lighting symbolizes the true essence of the season: hope, compassion, and unity.

“May our tree lighting ceremony remind us of what makes Christmas in the Philippines truly special, the comfort of Filipino food, the strength of community, and the joy of gathering with loved ones,” said Marvin Kim Tan, Vice President for Sales and Marketing of The Manila Hotel. “It’s a time to celebrate not just our traditions but the meaningful connections that bring light to our lives.”

In the spirit of giving, the hotel once again extended its support to the House of Refuge, continuing its annual tradition of helping children in need and spreading kindness throughout the community.
