TECNO’s Shot On CAMON 2026 Turns Everyday Photos Into Global Stories

Saturday, May 16, 2026

Smartphone photography keeps getting more powerful, but the best images still come down to one thing: real moments.

That idea sits at the heart of the newly launched Shot On CAMON Contest 2026 by TECNO, which is returning this year with an even bigger global spotlight through a new partnership with Lonely Planet. More than just a photography competition, the initiative encourages creators to capture authentic experiences, emotions, and everyday stories through mobile photography.

Now on its third year, the annual contest invites smartphone photographers from around the world, including creators in the Philippines, to explore this year’s theme: “Seeing is Believing.”

Running from May 15 to October 11, 2026, the competition highlights how mobile photography can preserve meaningful human moments in an increasingly AI-driven world.

TECNO and Lonely Planet Team Up for a More Story-Driven Photography Contest

This year’s collaboration with Lonely Planet adds a fresh travel and storytelling angle to the competition.

Known globally for inspiring travelers and explorers, Lonely Planet will help shape the contest through expert judging, editorial-style visual storytelling, and co-created photography content. Three Lonely Planet photographers will also shoot original images using the TECNO CAMON 50 Series, while one photographer from the travel brand will join the final judging panel.

Melissa Killian, Vice President of Integrated Marketing at Lonely Planet, shared that meaningful travel photography is often less about expensive gear and more about immersion and observation.

“Great photos are not just about equipment. They are about how deeply the photographer can immerse themselves in a destination.”

She added that TECNO’s camera technology helps users stay present and connected to the moments they want to capture.

Why “Seeing is Believing” Matters in the Age of AI

In a digital era filled with filters, AI-generated visuals, and highly edited content, TECNO’s latest contest theme focuses on authenticity.

According to TECNO, the goal is to celebrate real-world beauty through photography, whether that means candid street portraits, emotional travel moments, cultural snapshots, or nighttime city scenes.

Even the competition’s AI category begins with a real photo first before participants creatively transform it using TECNO’s AI Gallery tools.

Jack Guo, General Manager of TECNO, explained that the campaign is designed to remind creators that the strongest visual stories still begin with genuine human experiences.

“‘Seeing is Believing’ is both a creative brief for our contestants and a reminder that the most powerful images begin with real life.”

Filipino Photographer Kelvinmarkulit Joins as CAMON Ambassador

For the Philippine leg of the contest, TECNO Philippines has partnered with Filipino visual storyteller Kelvinmarkulit as the official CAMON Photography Ambassador.

Known online for his raw and emotionally grounded street photography, Kelvinmarkulit has built a strong following by documenting everyday Filipino life through unfiltered visual storytelling.

His role in the competition goes beyond promotions. He will help encourage local creators to join the contest, participate as a regional judge, and join the exclusive winners’ experience.

The collaboration also sends a strong message to aspiring Filipino photographers: local stories and authentic perspectives can resonate on a global stage.

Five Categories That Encourage Creative Storytelling

Shot On CAMON Contest 2026 features five major categories designed to showcase different styles of photography and creative expression.

Faces·Unfiltered

This category focuses on authentic portraits that celebrate individuality, diverse skin tones, and emotional honesty.

Night·Unveiled

Participants are encouraged to capture the mood and atmosphere of nighttime scenes, from neon streets to quiet late-night moments.

Culture·Unscripted

This category highlights spontaneous cultural experiences, including festivals, food, traditions, and everyday interactions.

Snapshot·Unspotted

Designed as a telephoto-focused category, this encourages photographers to capture distant details or fleeting moments that are often overlooked.

AI·Unimagined

Participants must first take a real-world photo using a TECNO device before transforming it creatively using AI Gallery tools.

Big Prizes and a Special Reward for Filipinos

The competition offers major international prizes for outstanding entries.

One grand winner will receive the TECNO Photography Master prize worth $8,000, while Gold, Silver, and Bronze winners will also receive cash prizes ranging from $1,000 to $3,000.

Selected winners will additionally join an exclusive curated trip to the Philippines sponsored by Lonely Planet.

For local creators, TECNO Philippines is also introducing a dedicated Filipino Special Award.

Unlike the global competition, Filipino participants can submit both photos and short-form videos through platforms like Instagram Reels, Facebook Reels, and TikTok.

Six local winners will be named CAMON Photography Endorsers in the Philippines and will receive a Lonely Planet bespoke travel experience plus a TECNO CAMON 50 Series smartphone.

Five winners will come from photo submissions, while one will be selected from video entries.

How Filipino Creators Can Join

Joining the contest is relatively simple for aspiring mobile photographers.

Participants need to upload their entries on Instagram with a visible TECNO watermark and include the hashtags #ShotOnCAMON2026, #TECNOCAMON50Series, and #TECNOPhilippines.

High-resolution copies must also be submitted through email or uploaded via the official ShotOnCAMON Gallery on TECNO Philippines’ website.

All entries must be original works.

Winning photos will eventually be featured in global exhibitions, TECNO’s annual photography book, and official brand platforms worldwide.

Mobile Photography Keeps Becoming More Personal

Over the past few years, smartphone photography contests have evolved beyond technical camera comparisons.

Today, audiences connect more deeply with images that feel human, relatable, and emotionally honest. That shift is exactly what Shot On CAMON Contest 2026 seems to embrace.

For Filipino creators especially, the competition offers more than prizes. It creates a platform to showcase local stories, everyday moments, and unique perspectives to an international audience using a device many already carry every day.
