Christian Bautista and Raisa Spread Joy in New “Rainbow” Music Video

Monday, November 17

Sometimes, it’s the simplest moments that leave the deepest mark on our hearts. Filipino balladeer Christian Bautista and Indonesian pop icon Raisa capture this very sentiment in their latest single, “Rainbow.” Their newly released music video is a gentle reminder that hope, connection, and happiness often live in the ordinary moments we might overlook.

A Quiet Moment in Jakarta

Shot in a cozy café in Jakarta, the music video showcases both artists enjoying a calm escape from the city’s hustle and bustle. Christian Bautista explains that the concept is about finding “the rainbows” in everyday life—those small sparks of joy that can truly brighten a day.

Directed by Jonathan Tal Placido of Toothless Productions, the team traveled to Jakarta to bring this vision to life. According to Bautista, the video beautifully conveys the song’s message through a mix of cinematic elegance and heartfelt storytelling.

Celebrating Everyday Beauty

The music video mirrors the song’s warmth, inviting viewers to savor life’s little pleasures: sharing coffee with friends, laughing across the table, and simply being present. Each frame encourages us to pause and recognize the quiet joys that are often taken for granted.

Beyond the everyday moments, “Rainbow” celebrates cultural harmony. The collaboration bridges Filipino and Indonesian artistry, and filming in Jakarta adds authenticity, texture, and emotional depth to the visuals. “The city helped us reflect the connection the song celebrates,” Bautista shares.

Chemistry on and Off Stage

Christian Bautista and Raisa first performed together during a 13-city ASEAN concert in Japan, where their friendship and stage chemistry began to flourish. Their rapport translates naturally on screen, making the music video feel intimate and genuine.

Bautista recalls that scheduling was the biggest challenge, but once everything aligned, the result was deeply rewarding. “Seeing it all come together after months of planning was such a special moment,” he says.

Finding Joy in Small Moments

“Rainbow” is more than a music video, it’s a celebration of everyday beauty and the subtle, unspoken bonds that unite people across borders. Bautista and Raisa remind us that joy doesn’t always come from grand gestures; sometimes, it shines brightest in life’s smallest details.

The single “Rainbow” is now streaming on all major platforms via Sony Music Entertainment. Watch the music video on Christian Bautista’s official YouTube channel.

IU and Byeon Wooseok Star in Perfect Crown on Disney+

A young woman in casual clothing looks up at a well-dressed man in a formal black and white suit as they stand outside a traditional Korean building.

K-drama fans, prepare your hearts! Two of Korea’s biggest stars IU and Byeon Wooseok are officially leading a brand-new romantic comedy titled Perfect Crown, coming exclusively to Disney+ in early 2026. With both actors riding high from recent hit roles, this upcoming series is shaping up to be one of next year’s most exciting releases for Pinoy Hallyu lovers.

A Modern Royal Romance With a Twist

Announced during the Disney+ Originals Preview at Hong Kong Disneyland Resort, Perfect Crown brings viewers to a reimagined version of modern-day Korea, one that still follows a constitutional monarchy system. At the center of the story is Grand Prince Wan, adored by the public yet entangled in internal palace politics.

With mounting pressure to marry, the prince enters into a marriage of convenience with Heeju, an heiress to one of Korea’s largest conglomerates. What begins as a strategic partnership soon spirals into complications both political and emotional.

A-List Cast and Creative Powerhouse

Originally introduced under the working title Wife of a 21st Century Grand Prince, the series stars IU (When Life Gives You Tangerines, My Mister) as Heeju, a poised heiress second in line to her family’s business empire and Byeon Wooseok (Lovely Runner, Strong Girl Nam-soon) as Grand Prince Wan, the charming royal caught between duty and desire.

The show is helmed by acclaimed director Park Joonhwa, known for massive hits like Alchemy of Souls and What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim, with the screenplay written by Yu Ain.

This powerhouse lineup alone already has fans buzzing especially in the Philippines, where both IU and Byeon Wooseok are wildly popular.

Disney+ Showcases Its Global Storytelling Strength

The Disney+ Originals Preview, held on November 13, 2025, spotlighted the platform’s growing catalog of Japanese, Korean, and international titles set to arrive through 2026. With star guests from Hollywood to Seoul, the event emphasized Disney’s continued commitment to high-quality, globally relevant storytelling.

Perfect Crown is one of the standout titles revealed and is expected to be a major draw for Southeast Asian audiences, particularly Filipino viewers who love royal romances and modern K-drama twists.

Why You Should Watch Out for “Perfect Crown”

If you love unique K-drama concepts, powerful leads, and plenty of romantic tension, Perfect Crown is poised to be a must-watch. The chemistry between IU and Byeon Wooseok alone is enough reason to stay updated, add the royal intrigue, corporate drama, and marriage-of-convenience trope, and you’ve got a formula for another binge-worthy hit.

Stay tuned for updates as we get closer to the 2026 premiere!

Baghead on Lionsgate Play: A Terrifying Tale of Grief and Closure

Wednesday, October 29

What if you could have one last conversation with someone you’ve lost — but it comes with a horrifying price?

That’s the chilling question at the heart of “Baghead,” now streaming on Lionsgate Play via PLDT Home, Smart, and Cignal. The film takes the universal longing for closure and twists it into a nightmare, exploring how far one would go to speak to the dead and what it might cost.

Grief, Greed, and the Supernatural

In Baghead, Freya Allan (of The Witcher fame) stars as Iris Lark, a young woman who inherits her late father’s centuries-old pub, The Queen’s Head. But this isn’t just an old English tavern, it’s home to Baghead, a terrifying shape-shifting creature capable of taking the form of the dead and letting people speak to them… for just two minutes.

When Iris discovers she can profit from others’ grief, she ignores her father’s warning and uses Baghead’s powers for money. But breaking the rules unleashes consequences far darker than she imagined forcing Iris and her best friend Katie into a desperate fight for survival.

From Short Film to Full-Blown Fright

Directed by Alberto Corredor, Baghead expands on his 2017 short film of the same name. Co-written with Lorcan Reilly, the movie explores themes of family, loss, and how the pursuit of closure can become an obsession.

Corredor shared in an interview with Warped Perspective:

“We invested considerable effort in designing Baghead, knowing that an iconic character would be crucial for the transition to a feature film… It can be overwhelming, and feelings of insecurity—the well-known ‘impostor syndrome’—can surface, so it’s essential to be adaptable and rely on your team.”

For her part, Freya Allan revealed to FILMHOUNDS that she immersed herself deeply into Iris’ emotional state:

“I watched a lot of YouTube videos and documentaries and spoke with people about loss and grief. I spent time figuring out what she’d been through before we even met her in the film.”

Stream “Baghead” Now on Lionsgate Play

The Bloomfields Release Nostalgic New Single "Balikan”

Monday, October 27

The Bloomfields Take Listeners on a Trip Down Memory Lane with “Balikan”

Fresh off the success of their previous single “Pink Skies,” beloved Filipino band The Bloomfields return with “Balikan”, a heartfelt, nostalgia-soaked track that captures the longing for simpler days when life moved slower and friendships felt timeless.

Released under Lily Stars Records, “Balikan” is a luminous blend of classic pop-rock and warm psychedelia, reminding fans why The Bloomfields remain one of the most enduring and versatile acts in the OPM scene.

A Nostalgic Ode to the Past

“This song is about that sudden realization of how quickly time passes—and the longing to return to those simpler days,” shared Nathan Abella, the band’s rhythm guitarist. “It all started with something as ordinary as hanging out in a parking lot with old friends, which sparked a wave of nostalgia.”

Produced by Lakan Hila, The Bloomfields’ keyboardist and lead guitarist, “Balikan” delivers lush, melodic layers that pay homage to the golden age of music. Drawing inspiration from George Harrison’s soulful sound and the dreamy tones of late ‘60s and early ‘70s psychedelia, the song radiates both modern polish and vintage charm,  a soundscape that feels familiar yet refreshingly new.

A Collaboration of Musical Greats

Adding even more magic to “Balikan” is a lineup of Filipino music legends who lent their artistry to the track. The song features Benjie Santos of The Jerks on drums, Rey Abella on keyboards, and the acclaimed Kakoy Legaspi on lead guitar.

The Bloomfields’ bassist Louie Poco described the track as “peaceful and easy to listen to playful yet solemn. It captures a nostalgic feeling that takes you back to the good old days.”

Poco further shared, “It’s a sound that steps outside the usual Bloomfields character. You can really feel the different personalities blending together in this track.”

A Song That Bridges Eras and Emotions

True to its title, “Balikan” invites listeners to revisit cherished memories from youthful adventures to quiet, meaningful moments. With its heartfelt lyrics and vintage-inspired melodies, the song captures the soul of OPM’s golden years while speaking to today’s generation craving authenticity and emotional connection.

Whether you’re reminiscing about your barkada days or simply yearning for simpler times, “Balikan” is that song you’ll want on repeat, a musical reminder that while time moves forward, the warmth of the past always lingers.

Listen to “Balikan”

The Bloomfields’ “Balikan” is now streaming on all digital music platforms worldwide, including Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube, under Lily Stars Records.

“Cat Person” on Lionsgate Play: A Chilling Look at Modern Dating Gone Wrong

Wednesday, October 22

Think being ghosted is the worst thing that can happen in modern dating? Think again. The new psychological thriller Cat Person, now streaming exclusively on Lionsgate Play via PLDT Home, Smart, and Cignal, dives deep into the unsettling gray areas of dating, consent, and connection in the digital age.

When Flirting Turns Frightening

What starts as a fun exchange of emojis and flirty texts quickly turns into a nightmare in Cat Person, a story that feels all too real for today’s online dating generation.

The film follows Margot (Emilia Jones), a college student who meets Robert (Nicholas Braun), an older man who often visits the movie theater where she works. Their casual chats evolve into constant messaging and romantic tension—but the spark soon fades into suspicion.

As Robert’s stories start to contradict and his messages grow more controlling, Margot’s instincts begin to scream that something’s not right. The result is a haunting exploration of how easily attraction can slip into anxiety and how blurred the line between desire and danger can become.

A Film That Holds Up a Mirror to Dating in the Digital Age

Directed by Susanna Fogel and written by Michelle Ashford, Cat Person is based on the viral 2017 New Yorker short story by Kristen Roupenian. The film doesn’t try to offer neat answers, it thrives in the gray area of relationships: those awkward silences, overanalyzed texts, and moments when we question our own instincts.

In an interview, Fogel captured the film’s haunting realism:

“Most encounters aren’t fairy tales or horror stories, they’re somewhere in between. That ambiguity is what makes modern dating so complicated.”

With Emilia Jones delivering a painfully relatable performance and Nicholas Braun (yes, Cousin Greg from Succession!) balancing charm with menace, Cat Person will make you rethink every red flag you’ve ever ignored.

Where to Watch

Cat Person is now streaming exclusively on Lionsgate Play starting October 17, available through:
  • PLDT Home – offering unli-entertainment and award-winning internet speed
  • Smart – the country’s leading mobile provider
  • Cignal – via the Cignal Super app, the Philippines’ first streaming aggregator

You can also stream Lionsgate Play directly at www.lionsgateplay.com for ₱79/month with PLDT Home or ₱199/quarter with Smart.

Why You Should Watch It

If you’ve ever second-guessed a message, a date, or your own gut feeling, Cat Person will hit close to home. It’s not your typical love story, it’s a mirror to how connection, power, and fear collide in the modern world of dating apps and unread messages.

So before your next swipe, maybe take a moment to ask yourself: Do I actually like this person or do I just like that they like me?

Jolianne and Arthur Nery Reunite for Soulful New Duet “Palayo Sa Mundo”

Thursday, October 16

Arthur Nery and Jolianne share a laid-back moment in a candid photoshoot promoting their new soulful single “Palayo Sa Mundo.”

A tender collaboration that captures love’s bittersweet beauty

Two of today’s most captivating voices in OPM are back together for a heartfelt collaboration that’s sure to melt hearts. Filipino singer-songwriter Jolianne reunites with chart-topping R&B star Arthur Nery in their newest single “Palayo Sa Mundo,” released under Sony Music Entertainment.

The smooth yet soulful pop track paints a portrait of love so powerful it feels like time stands still—a kind of romance that makes the world wait.

A natural connection between two Bisaya artists

“Palayo Sa Mundo” marks the duo’s second collaboration, following their 2024 track “Lullaby” from Arthur’s album II: The Second. Once again, Jolianne and Arthur weave their voices together seamlessly in a duet that feels intimate, emotional, and effortlessly moving.

“Working with Arthur came so naturally,” Jolianne shares. “For one, we’re both Bisaya, so that was an effortless connection. Musically, we also speak the same language. We share a lot of the same influences, and we’re both deeply rooted in R&B.”

From ‘The World Can Wait’ to ‘Palayo Sa Mundo’

The track was born during a songwriting camp with producer Luke April (James Reid, Playertwo). Initially titled “The World Can Wait,” it evolved into a Tagalog song that beautifully captures the classic essence of OPM romance.

“Arthur is a real poet,” Jolianne recalls. “He wrote the song so quickly—it was like watching a masterclass.”

Interestingly, Arthur admits that “Palayo Sa Mundo” wasn’t meant to be a love song at first.

“Joli wanted a track about self-reflection or identity crisis,” he said. “But once I wrote the first two lines, the song took its own direction. While Luke played his guitar sample, I just wrote and arranged freely. It was a fun, organic process.”

A song about love without guarantees

At its heart, “Palayo Sa Mundo” reflects on love that endures even when fate has other plans.

“It’s about that bittersweet feeling of loving somebody you know loves you too,” Jolianne explains. “Sometimes, things don’t turn out how we hope, but love in its purest form is worth giving. Love isn’t about guarantees—it’s about loving simply because you do.”

Intimate, timeless, and purely OPM

The single’s stripped-down arrangement highlights both artists’ vocal chemistry, blending warmth with simplicity. Jolianne adds, “We paid homage to ‘Lullaby’ by going the acoustic pop route. We wanted something that felt intimate and timeless. When Arthur and I sing together, it’s never a sing-off—it’s a duet.”

With its soulful storytelling and soothing melody, “Palayo Sa Mundo” captures the very best of today’s OPM—authentic, emotional, and deeply Filipino.

Barbie Almalbis Shines in All U Wanna Do Tokyo Music Video

Sunday, October 5

A Powerful Performance Amid the Chaos of Tokyo

Acclaimed Filipina singer-songwriter Barbie Almalbis has once again proven her artistry knows no bounds with the release of the music video for her latest single, “All U Wanna Do.”

Shot guerilla-style in the middle of Tokyo’s iconic Shibuya Crossing, the video captures Almalbis’ soulful and unfiltered performance against the vibrant rush of city life. Singing live with only her earphones for accompaniment, Barbie stands out as a calm yet powerful presence in a sea of strangers—transforming an ordinary public moment into an extraordinary act of vulnerability, resilience, and expression.

A Creative Journey in the Heart of Japan

The spontaneous project came to life during Almalbis’ recent trip to Japan, where she was invited to perform. The music video was directed and conceptualized by renowned photographer and filmmaker Niña Sandejas, whose intimate, documentary-style storytelling perfectly complements Barbie’s raw emotional delivery.

“It wasn’t an original idea—tourists film themselves there all the time—but this shoot was something else,” shared Sandejas. “Barbie sang full voice, rain pouring, people brushing past, and we only had a few takes before her next gig. What struck me most wasn’t the chaos—it was her calm. Her devotion to every performance, whether onstage or on the street, never changes.”

Behind the Scenes: Passion, Precision, and Faith

The shoot was a true collaborative effort, featuring a small, dedicated crew. Rachael Roldan took care of hair, makeup, and lighting, while Martin Honasan, Barbie’s husband, handled crowd management amid the busy crossing. Ysmael Salvador, who also edited Almalbis’ previous visuals for “Platonic” and “Needy,” brought Sandejas’ dynamic, handheld footage together into a beautifully cohesive narrative.

In a nod to Almalbis’ musical past, Sandejas wove in subtle audio echoes from Hungry Young Poets’ “Runaway”—a nostalgic detail that ties Barbie’s early career to her present artistry.

“It felt right to bring that spirit full circle,” Sandejas said. “Folding memory into the present, blending the old and the new—that’s what this piece is about.”

A Testament to Authentic Artistry

For Almalbis, the collaboration was a reflection of shared trust and creative instinct.

“Niña really is a natural,” Barbie shared. “She reacts to her surroundings with such honesty—it’s almost instinctive. Watching her work reminded me that the best art often happens when you let go and just create.”

“All U Wanna Do” isn’t just a song—it’s an intimate portrait of an artist staying true to her craft, no matter the setting. Amid Tokyo’s organized chaos, Barbie Almalbis reminds us that music, emotion, and authenticity can shine even in the most unexpected places.

Watch the music video here.

Barbie Almalbis continues to push creative boundaries while staying rooted in sincerity. Her latest visual masterpiece at Shibuya Crossing captures what makes her artistry timeless: honesty, heart, and unfiltered humanity.

Lionsgate Play Streams Back-to-Back Shark Thrillers in PH

Friday, October 3

Why We Can’t Get Enough of Shark Thrillers

There’s something about shark movies that keeps us coming back for more. Maybe it’s the vastness of the ocean, the suspense of the unknown, or that chilling moment when fun turns into a fight for survival. Whatever the reason, shark thrillers never fail to grip audiences—and this month, Lionsgate Play is serving Filipinos two new reasons to hold their breath.

Partnering with PLDT Home, Smart, and Cignal Super, Lionsgate Play brings the ultimate shark double feature straight to your screen: Dangerous Animals and No Way Up.

Dangerous Animals: When the Real Monster Isn’t in the Water

What starts as a thrill-seeking shark cage dive quickly spirals into horror. Dangerous Animals follows Zephyr (Hassie Harrison), a free-spirited drifter trapped on a boat run by Tucker (Jai Courtney)—an unhinged captain who secretly feeds tourists to sharks for his own twisted experiments.

As Zephyr fights for survival, her friend Moses (Josh Heuston) searches for her, unaware that he’s stepping into the same nightmare.

Director Sean Byrne calls it a fusion of shark horror and serial killer thriller. “We don’t shirk on the shark drama, but it’s not just sharks hunting people. It shines a light on man as the real monster.”

Courtney, who plays Tucker, adds depth to the role by exploring trauma and humanity beneath the villainy. “Hurt people hurt people.”

The result? A bloody, unflinching ride that blurs the line between human evil and nature’s fury.

No Way Up: A Deadly Countdown Beneath the Waves

In No Way Up, a plane crash is just the beginning. A group of survivors—including Ava (Sophie McIntosh), best friends Jed (Jeremias Amoore) and Kyle (Will Attenborough), and grandmother-granddaughter duo Mardy (Phyllis Logan) and Rosa (Grace Nettle)—find themselves trapped inside a sinking jet fuselage.

With oxygen running out, the wreckage sliding deeper, and a shark circling the torn metal, every choice is an impossible one: suffocate, drown, or face the predator in the dark.

Equal parts disaster flick and shark horror, this claustrophobic survival thriller will have you holding your breath until the last frame.

Stream the Terror at Home

Whether you’re in it for the jump scares, the suspense, or the adrenaline, nothing beats the thrill of a shark film—especially when you can enjoy it from the safety of your couch.

Catch Dangerous Animals and No Way Up this month, streaming exclusively on Lionsgate Play.

Subscription plans:
  • PLDT Home – Php79 monthly
  • Smart – Php199 quarterly

The video was directed and edited by Louie Poco, the band’s bassist, who took on the challenge of creating a surreal animated collage from scratch. “It was my first time experimenting with green screen and animated collage,” Louie shares. “No AI involved, just countless hours of hands-on editing and flexing creative muscles.”

Instead of going for polished perfection, Poco leaned into the beauty of imperfection, embracing quirks and rough edges as part of the art. The result? A kaleidoscope of colors, textures, and psychedelic cut-outs that capture the dreamy spirit of “Pink Skies.”

Inspired by Filipino Collage Art

Louie drew inspiration from local collage artists Andrea Cervantes and Charlie Salazar, both known for their distinct cut-out style. Just like the band’s music, the visuals embrace a retro yet human quality—vintage, playful, and bursting with creativity.

“Its imperfections are exactly what make it beautiful and trippy,” Louie explains. “It’s not about polished perfection, but about joy, creativity, and the spirit of something crafted with love.”

A Soundtrack of Endless Summer

On the sonic side, “Pink Skies” blends Britpop and indie rock influences, offering a dreamy yet energetic escape. The track feels like an endless summer—equal parts radiant anthem and shimmering fantasy. It’s a hopeful break from reality, a reminder that light can always cut through the storm.

Released earlier this month via Lilystars Records, “Pink Skies” is already available on all digital music platforms worldwide.

With “Pink Skies,” The Bloomfields prove that music videos don’t need to rely on glossy effects or AI-driven visuals to stand out. Sometimes, what resonates most is authenticity—and this project is brimming with it.

Don’t miss the official premiere this September 26 at 10:30 PM and stream the single now on your favorite music app.

For Ventura, the recognition is both humbling and energizing. “Sharing a story and music that are distinctly ours, yet resonate with a wider audience, is inspiring. Representing the Philippines on this stage is a privilege,” she shared in a press statement.

A Journey Beyond the Philippines

The international momentum doesn’t stop there. Ventura confirmed that theatrical releases are already lined up for the Middle East, followed by Australia, the United States, Canada, and the UK.

“We’re thrilled to be taking the film beyond the Philippines,” Ventura said. “It’s exciting to see this story travel and connect with audiences around the world.”

For fans of the Eraserheads, this is more than just nostalgia—it’s a celebration of Filipino artistry on a global scale.

Ballet Manila Brings Back Florante at Laura: A Timeless Epic Reimagined Through Ballet

Few stories are as deeply woven into Filipino heritage as Francisco Balagtas’ Florante at Laura. This October, Ballet Manila reawakens the national classic, bringing it to life once more through the artistry of music, myth, and dance. After its critically acclaimed premiere and an equally successful second run, the production returns to the Aliw Theater in Pasay City on October 3 (8:00 PM) and October 4–5 (5:00 PM)—giving audiences another chance to witness the beloved tale reimagined on stage.

A Ballet Rooted in Filipino Heritage

For Ballet Manila’s founder and artistic director Lisa Macuja-Elizalde, this restaging is more than just a repeat performance—it’s a reaffirmation of how Filipino stories continue to inspire across generations.

“Bringing Florante at Laura back to the stage feels less like a return and more like a reckoning,” Lisa shared. “The ballet continues to teach us how timeless our heritage can be.”

Her vision has always been to highlight Filipino storytelling through classical ballet, and this restaging strengthens that mission with renewed resonance.

A Collaboration of Creative Masters

Audiences can expect a powerful creative team to breathe life into this production once again. The Orchestra of the Filipino Youth, conducted by Toma Cayabyab, will perform the stirring score composed by National Artist Ryan Cayabyab.

“To see the score come alive again is like watching a memory evolve,” Ryan said. “This re-staging proves that our classics still have something urgent to say.”

Choreographers Gerardo Francisco Jr. and Martin Lawrance return to craft the ballet’s emotional layers, while Dr. Michael Coroza’s libretto ensures Balagtas’ verses remain deeply rooted in Filipino language and tradition.

Adding to the visual feast, Mio Infante (set design) and Therese Arroyo (costume design) bring the kingdom of Berbania to life with Persian-inspired motifs fused with Filipino aesthetics.

Why You Shouldn’t Miss It

Whether you’re a first-time viewer or someone eager to relive the magic, this restaging of Florante at Laura is more than a performance—it’s a cultural experience. It’s a reminder of how our heritage, when retold with passion and creativity, continues to resonate today.

Ballet Manila invites everyone to return not just to the theater, but to the very heart of a national epic.

Aliw Theater, Pasay City
October 3 (8:00 PM) | October 4–5 (5:00 PM)
Tickets available via TicketWorld

This is a must-see for anyone who values art, history, and Filipino identity. Ballet Manila has proven time and again that classical ballet can be a vessel for national pride. If you missed the first runs, don’t let this third staging pass you by.

Alicia Silverstone Stars in Thriller Pretty Thing

Tuesday, September 9

Alicia Silverstone Returns in Erotic Thriller Pretty Thing on Lionsgate Play

Alicia Silverstone is making a bold comeback, and this time she’s diving into the dark world of obsession and desire. The Clueless icon stars in Pretty Thing, a sultry new thriller that explores how passion can twist into something dangerous. Set to stream exclusively on Lionsgate Play via PLDT Home, Smart, and Cignal starting September 5, the film promises a slow-burn ride that keeps viewers on edge.

For Filipino fans of Silverstone who grew up watching her ’90s classics, this marks an exciting return to the genre that first introduced her to audiences more than 30 years ago.

The Story Behind Pretty Thing

At the heart of the movie is Sophie (played by Silverstone), a powerful pharmaceutical executive who lives a life built on structure and control. Her marriage is stagnant, her career consumes her, and she rarely allows herself indulgence. That changes when she meets Elliot (Karl Glusman), a younger man who seems harmless at first—until their secret affair spirals out of control.

What begins as a fling quickly turns sinister, as Elliot’s affection becomes obsession, threatening Sophie’s career, marriage, and ultimately, her freedom.

From Romance to Obsession

Unlike thrillers that rely on jump scares or shocking twists, Pretty Thing takes a slower, more psychological approach. Written by Jack Donnelly and directed by Justin Kelly, the film carefully builds tension with every glance and every word exchanged, creating an atmosphere of unease that lingers long after the credits roll.

Silverstone herself describes it best: the film starts out like a romance, luring the audience into a false sense of comfort before revealing its darker layers.

A Full-Circle Moment for Silverstone

Fans may recall that Silverstone’s very first film, The Crush (1993), also revolved around obsession—only this time, she’s on the other side of the story. Back then, she played the obsessive teenage stalker. In Pretty Thing, she portrays the woman being hunted.

Reflecting on her return to the genre, Silverstone told UPI, “It’s fun to revisit it. They’re both in some kind of addictive game. She wants this to stop and he wants it to keep going. They’re both equally determined… It’s an erotic thriller and it starts like a romance. You think, ‘Oh, this is a really beautiful, romantic story’ and then it takes a turn. I love that about it.”

This contrast not only highlights how far she has come in her career but also adds a deeper, more mature perspective to the theme of obsession.

When and Where to Watch

Filipinos can catch Pretty Thing starting September 5, streaming exclusively on Lionsgate Play through PLDT Home, Smart, and Cignal. With Silverstone in a role that challenges both her character’s strength and her acting range, the film is set to be a must-watch for fans of psychological thrillers.

If you’re craving a thriller that blends sensuality with suspense, Pretty Thing should be on your watchlist. Alicia Silverstone’s comeback to the stalker-thriller genre feels both nostalgic and refreshingly new, making it perfect for longtime fans and new audiences alike.

Don’t miss the chance to experience the tension and danger when it premieres this September.

Jewel Owusu’s new single Spark redefines desire as self-love

Friday, August 29

Sometimes the music that really sticks with us isn’t just about romance—it’s about rediscovering ourselves. Filipino-Ghanaian artist Jewel Owusu has tapped into that vibe with her brand-new single “spark,” a shimmering electro-pop track that transforms fleeting desire into a bold conversation about confidence, freedom, and self-love. The single officially dropped on August 21, 2025, and it’s already shaping up to be one of the year’s most empowering dance-pop releases.

Jewel Owusu Reimagines Desire Through Music

At first listen, “spark” feels like the perfect song for losing yourself on the dance floor. But listen closer, and you’ll hear Owusu flipping the script on how we view desire. Instead of treating attraction as a guilty temptation, she reframes it as a reminder to reconnect with yourself—to rediscover that inner fire and sexiness that can fade in the middle of routine life.

“Sometimes that craving for excitement isn’t really about someone new,” Owusu explains. “It’s about wanting to feel more alive and confident in yourself again.”

A Dance-Pop Confession With Layers of Meaning

With Aria Wood on production, “spark” balances Owusu’s intimate reflections with playful, futuristic beats. Expect shimmering synths, clever sound details (including a robotic voice delivering the word “heat”), and unexpected surprises that keep each chorus and drop feeling fresh.

One of Owusu’s favorite moments? A scream before the second drop that adds an electrifying punch, and a cheeky “whatever” in the final chorus that ties in the track’s playful vibe.

From Reflection to Release

Despite its deeper meaning, “spark” doesn’t shy away from being fun. It’s an anthem for letting loose, moving your body, and celebrating the moments when music feels like freedom. Owusu describes it as a breather among her more introspective songs—a chance for fans to release tension and simply enjoy themselves.

What’s Next for Jewel Owusu

“spark” is just the beginning. The track will be part of Owusu’s upcoming EP, set to drop later this year. Fans may remember her 2024 release “Time Machine” with Filipino singer-songwriter ena mori, which turned heads in Asia and earned features on Billboard Philippines and Bandwagon Asia. With “spark,” she’s proving once again that her mix of honesty and innovation makes her one of today’s most exciting new voices in electro-pop.

Jewel Owusu’s “spark” isn’t just a song—it’s a reminder to dance, to feel, and to reclaim that confidence within. Give it a listen, and let it be the soundtrack to your own self-love story.

What do you think of “spark”? Share your thoughts in the comments and tell us where you’ll be playing it first—your playlist, the car, or the dance floor.

Jackie Chan Brings Laughter and Action in Panda Plan – Now Streaming on Lionsgate Play

Thursday, August 21

When you hear Jackie Chan’s name, you probably think of jaw-dropping stunts, laugh-out-loud comedy, and unforgettable action films like Rush Hour and Shanghai Noon. This time, the global superstar takes on a new kind of role—playing himself—in the hilarious action-comedy Panda Plan, now streaming on Lionsgate Play for Filipino fans.

Jackie Chan as… Jackie Chan

In this family-friendly adventure, Jackie plays a fictionalized version of himself who unexpectedly becomes the guardian of Hu Hu, an irresistibly adorable baby panda. But things take a wild turn when a dangerous crime syndicate sets its eyes on the rare cub.

With the help of his trusty agent David (Xiang Wei) and panda keeper Su Xiaozhu (Ce Shi), Jackie embarks on a globe-trotting mission filled with:
  • High-speed chases
  • Elaborate, inventive stunts
  • Martial arts mayhem
  • Heartwarming comedy

The result? A film that’s equal parts action-packed and heartwarming.

Behind the Stunts and the Laughs

True to Jackie’s legendary style, Panda Plan is loaded with creative fight choreography and over-the-top stunts. Fun fact: Jackie even reunited with the stunt doubles from The Karate Kid (2010)—the ones who doubled for the child actors—to help bring the film’s action sequences to life.

Directed by Zhang Luan and shot across breathtaking locations in China, the movie balances stunning visuals with a silly, lighthearted tone that the whole family can enjoy.

Why Jackie Said This Film Matters

In an interview with Gulf News, Jackie revealed how meaningful Panda Plan was for him:

“It was quite a unique and interesting experience for me to play Jackie Chan. I remember the first time I watched Kung Fu Panda, I thought pandas are our Chinese national treasure, but it was Hollywood that first put pandas into a movie. I really hope one day we can make a movie about pandas based on our own Chinese themes.”

With Panda Plan, that dream comes to life—celebrating Chinese culture while delivering global laughs.

Where to Watch in the Philippines

Panda Plan officially streams on Lionsgate Play starting August 22 via PLDT Home, Smart, and Cignal.

So grab some popcorn, gather the family, and get ready for a panda-powered adventure full of laughs, heart, and classic Jackie Chan action.
