The Countdown to Extinction Begins: Watch the Thrilling "War of the Worlds" Series on Lionsgate Play

War of the Worlds Season 1

"Aliens are on their way— but no need to panic (or maybe do just a little), because the epic 'War of the Worlds' series is landing on Lionsgate Play."

What if the end of the world began with a single signal from the stars? Prepare for a breathtaking descent into chaos and survival as War of the Worlds, the haunting reimagining of H.G. Wells’ legendary novel, premieres exclusively on Lionsgate Play.

Set in contemporary Britain and France, this modern twist on the sci-fi classic shatters the comfort of everyday life when astronomers detect a mysterious transmission from deep space — a message that confirms the existence of intelligent extraterrestrial life. The world holds its collective breath, waiting for further contact. But the response is far from peaceful.

Within days, human civilization is decimated. Alien ships take to the skies, and Earth becomes a shadow of what it once was. The survivors, scattered in desolate cities and the eerie countryside, are left to grapple with an unrelenting question — Who are these invaders and why are they determined to destroy us?

Led by Gabriel Byrne (The Usual Suspects), Daisy Edgar-Jones (Normal People), and Léa Drucker (Custody), War of the Worlds assembles a stellar cast to take you through emotional highs and devastating lows. Will the few remaining pockets of humanity find a way to fight back? Or will this invasion mark the end of all we know?

Gabriel Byrne expressed his views on what appealed to him about War of the Worlds, saying, “I think it’s extremely pertinent to the world we live in today. I think that the aliens, they’re a metaphor for the unknown, the fears and terrors that are out there. I think in the films of the 1950’s, for example, there were a great many stories about unseen and unknown forces coming to threaten the world and that was indicative of a time when the world was entering a nuclear age and a very scary place. The aliens there stood in for perhaps the ‘red menace’, as it was known at that time. I think we’ve got a great deal to fear in the world that we live in today, but a lot of those fears are unnameable and incomprehensible. We can’t articulate what it is exactly, so that’s why this story. “

On how War of the Worlds differs from other alien or sci-fi shows, Daisy Edgar-Jones, "It differs in that the stories are a lot more about the relationships between the human beings in the plot. It’s very much about the nuances of interrelationships and of people changing and of survival and of sacrifice and of what happens in these situations."

Ready to watch humanity face its greatest threat yet? Catch War of the Worlds as Season 1 premieres on Lionsgate Play this December 6. Mark your calendars for the succeeding Fridays, because Season 2 and Season 3 are scheduled to land on December 13 and 20, respectively!

The Dawn offers a reflective take on the holiday season with “Maki-Pasko”

The Dawn Maki-Pasko

The Yuletide-inspired tune serves as their first release with Sony Music Entertainment

Iconic Filipino rock band The Dawn has thrown their hat into the ring for the next big holiday classic.

The Enveloped Ideas act makes a little space for love with “Maki-Pasko,” their debut Christmas single under Sony Music Entertainment. Known for their timeless rock anthems, the band takes a fresh and introspective approach to the season with a track that blends holiday warmth with personal reflection.

According to Jett Pangan, lead vocalist of The Dawn, “Maki-Pasko” was inspired by the feeling of longing that often accompanies the holidays, particularly for those who find themselves separated from loved ones. “I’ve experienced holidays away from my family, so I drew from that personal experience when writing the lyrics,” Pangan explains. “The song speaks to those moments of solitude and the desire to be with someone during the festive season.”

“Maki-Pasko” marks the band’s foray into writing a Yuletide-themed song—a concept they discussed for years but only decided to pursue after their initial meeting with Sony Music Entertainment. The collaboration with their new record label pushed the band to explore the challenges and creative nuances of producing a holiday tune, and refine the process along the way.

Francis Reyes, guitarist of The Dawn, reflects on co-writing the song, especially on its initial stages: “I was messing around on guitar at home, in a reflective mood. It started with that feeling, and a couple of chords and a riff that, in my mind, reflected a bit of sadness but also sounded hopeful. Personally, I think of it like any other song we’ve written that can be played in any other season. We were probably hesitant to write a Christmas song for so long because we were overthinking what it should sound like.”

Produced by guitarist Rommel “Sancho” Sanchez and bassist Bim Yance, “Maki-Pasko” conveys the essence of the holiday season without falling into the typical tropes of festive music. The song incorporates subtle touches of sleigh bells and tambourines, gently invoking the seasonal vibe, but its deeper emotional resonance comes from its universal themes of longing, hope, and togetherness.

“We didn’t want it to be just another ‘holiday song’—we wanted it to be a good song that happens to be about Christmas,” adds drummer Junboy Leonor. “Ultimately, it’s about the feelings that the season brings, without being tied to a particular moment or celebration.”

The Dawn’s “Maki-Pasko” is out now on all digital music platforms worldwide via Sony Music Entertainment.

Clara Benin releases deluxe edition of befriending my tears with new tracks, remixes, and live recordings

Clara Benin

Listen to the new track “all I do is cry,” co-produced by Clara Benin and The Ringmaster

Filipino singer-songwriter Clara Benin has dropped the deluxe edition of her critically acclaimed album, befriending my tears, now available worldwide under Sony Music Entertainment. The expanded version, titled befriending my tears (and then some), adds ten new tracks, including two fresh originals, five remixes, two live recordings, and a fan-favorite early demo, offering a deeper dive into Benin’s introspective musical journey.

Reflecting on the process, Benin shares, “This deluxe version gave me the opportunity to explore the more nuanced aspects of music production—whether it’s about satisfying my curiosity with different sonic textures, reworking instrumental arrangements, or experimenting with vocal harmonies. I wanted to create something immersive, something that resonates both on record and in a live setting.”

In addition to revisiting the themes of vulnerability and self-discovery explored in the original album, the deluxe edition features two brand-new tracks that continue the emotional narrative: “hiding in the bathroom” and “all I do is cry.” These new songs mark a more intimate exploration of self-acceptance and emotional honesty, while adding new perspectives to her brand of storytelling.

“The process of making befriending my tears helped me understand myself more,” Benin explains. “With these new songs, I wanted to lean into that same honesty—embracing vulnerability and learning how to sit with discomfort. It’s about letting go of any shame around our feelings, no matter how messy they might be.”

The new track, “all I do is cry,” co-produced with The Ringmaster, confronts Benin’s emotional depth and sensitivity. The song reflects her ability to embrace both the highs and lows of her feelings, finding catharsis in the act of crying as part of the process of growth and healing.

“I’ve always been deeply sensitive to my emotions, and crying has been one way I process everything,” she admits. “The older I get, the more I feel the contrast between contentment and grief. This song is a reflection of that duality—how love and loss can coexist, and how tears are sometimes necessary for personal evolution.”

In addition to the new material, befriending my tears (and then some) also features remixes from some of the most innovative producers in the local indie and electronic music scenes, including crwn, Kenyama, Kvtvlv, Tim Marquez, and The Ringmaster. The deluxe edition also includes live versions of fan favorites “small town” and “momentary,” recorded during her sold-out performance at the Music Museum last year.

For Benin, the deluxe album is more than just an extension of the original work—it’s a reflection of her ongoing quest to find beauty in life’s struggles, particularly the healing power of embracing her emotions—both the good and the bad. “I hope these songs encourage listeners to embrace their own journey, that whatever they're going through, there is always hope waiting for them on the other side. I hope they feel seen, understood, and reminded through these songs, that healing and growth are possible, even in the hardest moments.”

Clara Benin’s befriending my tears (and then some) is now available on all major digital music platforms via Sony Music Entertainment.

Is your dog guarded from the next parasites?

Remember that prevention is always better than cure when it comes to canine parasites

While it’s one thing to be aware of the manifold risks of parasites, it’s another to truly understand the gravity of the threats they pose to our beloved pets.

One moment, we could be playing outside with our dog (or snuggling in bed, no matter how brief, as they always seem to escape our hugs), and the other, they’re lethargic or feeling down. Then, they turn out to be sick, stricken by parasites, and eventually refuse to eat. Everything could go south at a moment’s notice, leaving us with little to no time to act. That’s why Boehringer Animal Health Philippines, Inc., a leader in animal health, reminds us to guard our pets from the next parasites as prevention is always better than cure.

To know exactly what we’re dealing with, let’s run down the different parasites that cause all sorts of problems to our furry companions--from simple skin irritations to life-threatening complications.

Seeing your dog suffering from something that eludes your eyes is frustrating. When this happens, they’re most likely dealing with sneaky invaders or internal parasites. These tiny worms wreak havoc inside your dog, which they pick up by ingesting its carrier or its egg from contaminated food or water, as well as surfaces, objects, and other animals’ feces.

Among the most common internal parasites in dogs are heartworms, one of the most notorious internal parasites. Transmitted by mosquitoes, heartworms can damage vital organs such as the heart and lungs, which can have fatal repercussions. Then, there are roundworms. These thin and long parasites can cause various digestive issues and even stunt the growth of puppies. If your dog suddenly lacks energy and becomes more prone to illnesses, hookworms may be the cause. They feed on blood and can cause anemia, weight loss, and a weakened immune system. Both roundworms and hookworms are zoonotic, meaning they can transfer from animals to humans.

Other parasites are less subtle in their approach. They attack from the outside as visible villains that cause discomfort and irritation. These external parasites range from fleas, which trigger intense itching and skin infections, to ticks—nasty blood-sucking pests. Meanwhile, mites can cause skin irritation, hair loss, and pesky ear infections.

Since parasites come in all shapes and sizes with various plans of attack, it’s easier to employ a proactive rather than reactive approach in addressing the issue. Keeping these threats at bay remains the greatest option in ensuring our dogs continue to live their best lives.

Truly, the value of regular vet check-ups cannot be overstated. Religiously schedule an appointment with your veterinarian to monitor your dog’s health and discuss appropriate prevention strategies. From there, you will learn of the best preventive medications to keep your dogs guarded from the next internal and external parasites.

It's simple math: Less time nursing a sick dog equals more moments to create quality, precious memories together.

Philippine Fashion Week takes a fresh perspective on managing the business of style

Philippine Fashion Week

The doors of Philippine Fashion Week (PhFW) have been opened wide for collaborations with designers, business owners, and brands or collaborators in 7 territories where style is intrinsic. Fashion, dining, beverages & spirits, home, travel, arts & entertainment, and wellness are such avenues of style.

As inquiries are pouring in, and minds are starting to meet, the PFW’s new message ‘Reinvent The Runway’ addressed to the style industry poses a business challenge to brands to rethink their next act, whether that’s going to be a small or a seismic shift. The fresh perspective also clarifies PhFW’s role: to help collaborators reimagine what their next opportunity is and provide them the launchpad for it. And what better venue to launch the next idea or next phase in one’s business journey than a runway that has been in business for more than 28 years.

‘We need to remind people of the power of the runway,’ says Nikky Nicandro, PhFW’s new chief vision officer. And powerful it is. PhFW’s rebirth, marked by a successful launch at The Ayala Museum was a celebration of its contribution to the style industry and a teaser of things to come: more collaborations underway.

The new PFW aims to excite business stakeholders within the 7 style vectors, emphasizing that every great idea they have is deserving of a runway. Runway here denotes two pillar events each year plus a host of bespoke events in between, the concepts of which are wide open to imagination – while considering a strong business push to create brand recognition and salience among a brand’s universe of customers.

PhFW’s new management team, with Nikky and Pris Santos, chief strategy officer, together with their team, are seasoned brand and communications marketers for a very good reason: the new Philippine Fashion Week is rebuilt for a fresh way of managing the business of style.

Audie and Joey Espino, founders of PhFW, are so keen to instill a lighthouse idea to guide the whole industry. It’s called the ‘Culture of Fashion’, which has two critical components to it – the business of selling and a business attitude. From Audie’s storehouse of experience comes this harsh certainty, ‘Fashion is business. The brand, the design, if it doesn't sell, it doesn't build business. We won't hear about it. Business needs capital, but how would you eat if you don't sell?’ The warning cuts through the fabric of both small and established brands and more so to the next generation of aspiring creators.

‘PhFW’s selection of collaborators is critical, starting with our fashion designers who are going to show in the next event. Only those who are committed to growing their business by stepping into a broader stage make the cut,’ says Nikky, who personally sees through the deliberation process.

PhFW crystallizes for its collaborators the opportunistic times for any brand or talent to seek a new stage. When it’s time to: amp your style, refresh your heritage, create relevant content, reach a much broader audience, expand your geographic footprint, be seen and heard in a new way, be experienced differently, and shine on a new platform – it IS the right time to reinvent your runway.

For collaborations, email info@philippinefashionweek.com or to know more about Philippine Fashion Week, visit its website philippinefashionweek.com or follow its social media pages, Facebook (@philippinefashionweek) and Instagram (@phfashionweek).
