Resty Trinidad

Resty Trinidad, a tricycle driver from Nueva Ecija, was the lucky winner of a brand new condominium unit via Globe’s G Raffle Rush.

In the agricultural town of San Isidro, Nueva Ecija, a humble tricycle driver recently received the most unexpected and life-changing surprise in his life.

After more than two decades of loyalty to Globe, 47-year-old Resty Trinidad is now the owner of a brand new condominium unit at the Avida Astrea in Fairview, Quezon City after winning the grand prize in G Raffle Rush last September 2024. The Avida Land giveaway was a highlight of Globe’s annual G Day festivities last year.

Living with his parents and extended family, Resty works tirelessly as a tricycle driver while running a side e-loading business to make ends meet. Little did he know that his 20 years as a Globe subscriber would one day lead him to his new home, offering his family the security and comfort they have always dreamed of.

“Hindi ko akalain na mangyayari ito sa akin,” Resty said, expressing his gratitude to Globe for his prize. “Isang malaking tulong po ito para sa pamilya ko, at nagpapasalamat ako sa Globe sa pagbibigay ng ganitong pagkakataon. Patuloy po akong magsisilbing loyal na customer ng Globe.”

Last September 2024, G Raffle Rush allowed Globe customers to redeem raffle entries with their Rewards points. Each point provided five entries, offering customers more chances to take home incredible prizes.

Aside from the Avida condo unit, G Raffle Rush prizes included a luxury vacation package for four in Palawan, a brand-new BYD Dolphin Electric Vehicle, two Gogoro Jego smart scooters, Php120,000 worth of SM shopping spree vouchers powered by Share Treats, Samsung S24+ smartphones, HUAWEI Pura 70 Pro smartphones, and 5x Php100,000 GCash, among many others.

Basic maneuvers to master for safer rides

motorcyle riding basic maneuvers

Motorcycle riding is more than just an adrenaline rush; it’s about skill, precision, and most importantly, safety. Every rider knows that the key to staying safe lies in mastering essential maneuvers - and it doesn’t have to be complicated!

Here’s a quick and easy way to remember these lifesaving techniques: Every maneuver boils down to three simple steps. Practice these, and you’ll feel more confident every time you hit the road.

Emergency braking: every second counts

Stopping safely in a pinch is a critical skill. Whether you’re riding a motorcycle with ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) or Non-ABS, the key is to apply the right technique for the situation.

If your bike is equipped with ABS, you don’t need to worry about wheel lock-up, even if you brake hard. ABS will automatically adjust braking force to prevent the wheels from locking, giving you better control in emergency situations. You can apply the brakes firmly and quickly without fear of losing grip.

For bikes without ABS, you need to be more cautious. To prevent your wheels from locking up during an emergency stop, apply the brakes smoothly and progressively. If you apply the brakes too hard too quickly, the wheels may lock, causing you to lose control.

No matter the system, here’s the three-step process for emergency braking:

Both brakes together: Apply the front and rear brakes at the same time, with firm but steady pressure.

Stay upright: Keep the handlebars straight to avoid skidding.

Ease off gradually: Release the brakes smoothly as you come to a stop to maintain control.

Remember: Practicing emergency stops in a safe area is the best way to prepare for the unexpected!

Turn safely to dodge hazards like a pro

Need to avoid that sudden pothole or stray dog? Turning safely is your go-to move.

Eyes on the path: Look at your escape route, not the hazard.

Push to steer: Turn the handlebar on the side you want to go (counter-steering in action!).

Straighten out: After turning and avoiding the obstruction safely, return to your original position smoothly.

Pro tip: Avoid braking while turning — it’s all about smooth, controlled movements.

Turn the corner with confidence

Every rider dreams of nailing that perfect curve. Here’s how you do it:

Slow down first: Use both brakes smoothly to reduce speed before entering the turn.

Look and lean: Look through the turn and let your body naturally lean with the bike.

Throttle out: As you exit the corner, gently roll on the throttle to regain stability.

Master these steps, and you’ll own every twist and turn.

Slow speed is key for precision maneuvers

Navigating tight spots or heavy traffic? Slow-speed control is your secret weapon:

Clutch and brake: Feather the clutch and rear brake to control speed.

Eyes up: Look ahead, not down, to keep your balance.

Smooth turns: Use gentle handlebar inputs to stay steady in tight spots.

Practice U-turns or figure of eights to sharpen your slow-speed skills!

Master the highs and lows of slopes (Uphill & Downhill Roads)

Slopes can be tricky, but not with this simple strategy:

Brake hold: On uphill stops, hold the rear brake to avoid rolling back. For downhill, focus on both brake.

Clutch and throttle sync: As you move again, smoothly release the brake while applying throttle.

Steady release: Ease out the clutch gradually to get moving without jerks or stalls.

Slopes don’t have to be stressful when you’ve got these steps down!

Lane positioning: be seen and stay safe

Good lane positioning is your ticket to visibility and safety:

Pick your spot: Ride in the left or right tire track of the lane to stay visible.

Adapt as needed: Shift positions to avoid blind spots or road hazards.

Mind the gap: Keep a safe distance from vehicles ahead and behind.

Positioning yourself wisely helps you avoid surprises and gives you room to react.

Practice, gear up, and ride smart

The secret to mastering these maneuvers is simple: practice, practice, practice! Find a safe area, like an empty parking lot, to refine your skills until they feel like second nature. Don’t forget your safety gear—helmets, gloves, and jackets are your best defense on the road.

Practice these maneuvers and remember their key steps—that way, you’ll make safer, smoother riding part of your routine.

Dirty Dancing (1987)

Assuming she’d spend another mundane summer vacation with her family in the Catskills, 17-year-old Frances “Baby” Houseman (Jennifer Grey) instead finds herself swept into the world of dance and a passionate romance with the resort's charismatic instructor, Johnny Castle (Patrick Swayze). Despite social barriers and her family's disapproval, Baby embraces the experience, eventually discovering her own sensuality and learning to stand up for what she believes in.

Love in the Time of Cholera (2007)

Is there a more heartrending tale than Florentino (Javier Bardem) and Fermina's (Giovanna Mezzogiorno) in Love in the Time of Cholera? Their youthful love is tragically derailed by Fermina's father, who rejects Florentino in favor of the prominent Dr. Juvenal Urbino (Benjamin Bratt). Devastated, Florentino dedicates his life to proving his worth, patiently waiting decades for his chance to be with Fermina. Based on the 1985 novel of the same name by Gabriel García Márquez, Love in the Time of Cholera explores the enduring power of true love in the face of life’s challenges and changes.

Laws of Attraction (2004)

High-powered divorce lawyers and rivals Daniel Rafferty (Pierce Brosnan) and Audrey Woods (Julianne Moore) have seen enough marriages implode to know better than to fall in love. Yet, despite their opposing personalities and courtroom battles, undeniable attraction sparks between them. After a drunken night at an Irish festival culminates in a wedding and leaves them unexpectedly married, they’re forced to juggle the complexities of their newfound relationship while working on a high-profile celebrity divorce case. Daniel and Audrey discover that their opposing approaches to law, and life, might just be the perfect balance.

Silver Linings Playbook (2012)

Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper deliver captivating performances as an unlikely duo in this quirky romantic dramedy about two individuals struggling to find their footing. Fresh out of a psychiatric hospital after a violent outburst, Pat Solitano (Cooper) is determined to win back his ex-wife, embarking on a journey of self-discovery and healing. He crosses paths with Tiffany Maxwell (Lawrence), a young widow with her own emotional baggage to sort through. Through dance, an unlikely friendship, and a shared sense of life's absurdities, they learn to navigate their imperfections and find happiness in the most unexpected places.

Blue Valentine (2010)

Not in the mood for a happy love story? Told in two linear narratives, Blue Valentine intercuts between Dean (Ryan Gosling) and Cindy’s (Michelle Williams) passionate beginnings to the stark reality of their present and the near-dissolution of their marriage. As the struggling couple tries to rekindle their relationship with a romantic getaway, their issues rise to the surface. This critically acclaimed film offers a heartbreakingly realistic portrayal of how love and intimacy can evolve – and sometimes disintegrate – over time. Williams's powerful performance earned her both Academy Award and Golden Globe nominations for Best Actress, while Gosling received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actor.

Fil-Aussie Zoe Honeyman Reigns Supreme as Miss Universe Philippines - Quezon City 2025

Zoe Honeyman

Standing out among 10 candidates, the mental health advocate is a force to be reckoned with come the national pageant

The stars lit up the universe anew as the winner of Miss Universe Philippines - Quezon City (MUPH - QC) was officially crowned last February 2. Zoe Hinay Honeyman bested 9 other hopefuls at the highly anticipated Coronation Night at the SM Skydome in SM North EDSA, Quezon City.

The 23-year-old is the first to represent Barangay Tatalon, which boasts a population of over 55,000. But as many pageant fans know, she is also the first Filipina-Australian to be selected for the title.

Zoe hails from the land Down Under and holds a double degree in Business Psychology and Human Resources. She is relatively new to the pageant scene, having competed in Miss Philippines Australia in 2024. Winning MUPH - QC, she says, is a step closer to both her dream of becoming Miss Universe Philippines and that of her late grandfathers who wanted her to join Miss Universe.

In the weeks leading up to coronation night, she openly discussed her mental health advocacy and how the “Stars Light The Universe” theme aligns with her core beliefs. As Zoe put it, “To be a light in the universe you must acknowledge that there is of course darkness, recognize that it is there, but choose to shine through it.” She also expressed her passion for volunteer work. “Serving my community not only aids my personal growth but also fuels my passion to be a source of connection.”

Zoe proudly acknowledged her Pinay roots throughout the competition. Her Personality Question during the finale not only challenged the notion that Pinoys born abroad are not truly Filipino, but tested her ability to answer in the Filipino language. Being the least fluent of the girls when it came to the national language, she powered through and left a lasting impression on the judges.

She touched on this subject again during the first part of the formal Q&A. Miss Universe Asia Chelsea Manalo, best known as the first Filipina Black American queen, asked her what kind of beauty she thinks society should start to appreciate. Zoe easily resonated with this, as she herself has been criticized for being too white to participate in local pageants.

“I am Filipina-Australian where there are two beauty standards…But I think at the end of the day, beauty should be appreciated no matter what because beauty is in the eye of the beholder. You will never, ever be able to please every single person there is in the world. What matters is you should be able to please yourself and what you think is beautiful.”

Zoe recognizes the pressure and prestige that comes with pageantry. In the second part of the Q&A, when prompted by Miss Universe Philippines Head of Women Empowerment and Advocacy Lia Ramos on the importance of beauty to be seen by others, Zoe emphasized inner beauty while thanking her family, friends, and fans.

“I’m a very fortunate person who has the ability to stand on a stage in a contest like this and be celebrated by others,” she said. “But being beautiful should be celebrated because it comes from within. I believe I have the ability to stand here today because of the people that support me and the journey I went through to get here. What comes through is my heart, and I think that’s the most beautiful thing.”

Pasarela training sessions, strict dieting, and Q&A coaching with the country’s premier pageant bootcamp Aces and Queens proved especially useful as Zoe swept the special awards segment. She bagged six of the 11 titles, namely Miss Creamsilk, Miss Icon Clinic, Miss Jell Life, Miss iColor, Best in Evening Gown, and Best in Swimsuit. Cheers followed for every title win, making her a clear crowd favorite.

Rounding up the finalists of Miss Universe Philippines - Quezon City 2025 are Carmel Aquino (4th Runner Up, MUPH - QC Light of Innovation), Jam Co (3rd Runner Up, MUPH - QC Light of Charity), Stella Zacarias (2nd Runner Up, MUPH - QC Light of Education), and Hanna Amistad (1st Runner Up, MUPH - QC Tourism).

Zoe succeeds Miss Universe Philippines - Quezon City 2024 Cam Lagmay. As MUPH - QC 2025, Zoe will now vie for the coveted Miss Universe Philippines crown alongside other bets from different cities across the country.

In its second year, MUPH - QC once again captivated pageant enthusiasts both at the event and online, amassing nearly 500,000 views on Facebook Live within just 24 hours of its conclusion.

Miss Universe Philippines - Quezon City is mounted by full service marketing agency Brand Republic PH. Show Zoe Honeyman your support in the Miss Universe Philippines pageant by following her on Instagram: zoehinayhoneyman, and following MUPH - QC on Facebook: muphqc.
