Baghead on Lionsgate Play: A Terrifying Tale of Grief and Closure

Wednesday, October 29

What if you could have one last conversation with someone you’ve lost — but it comes with a horrifying price?

That’s the chilling question at the heart of “Baghead,” now streaming on Lionsgate Play via PLDT Home, Smart, and Cignal. The film takes the universal longing for closure and twists it into a nightmare, exploring how far one would go to speak to the dead and what it might cost.

Grief, Greed, and the Supernatural

In Baghead, Freya Allan (of The Witcher fame) stars as Iris Lark, a young woman who inherits her late father’s centuries-old pub, The Queen’s Head. But this isn’t just an old English tavern, it’s home to Baghead, a terrifying shape-shifting creature capable of taking the form of the dead and letting people speak to them… for just two minutes.

When Iris discovers she can profit from others’ grief, she ignores her father’s warning and uses Baghead’s powers for money. But breaking the rules unleashes consequences far darker than she imagined forcing Iris and her best friend Katie into a desperate fight for survival.

From Short Film to Full-Blown Fright

Directed by Alberto Corredor, Baghead expands on his 2017 short film of the same name. Co-written with Lorcan Reilly, the movie explores themes of family, loss, and how the pursuit of closure can become an obsession.

Corredor shared in an interview with Warped Perspective:

“We invested considerable effort in designing Baghead, knowing that an iconic character would be crucial for the transition to a feature film… It can be overwhelming, and feelings of insecurity—the well-known ‘impostor syndrome’—can surface, so it’s essential to be adaptable and rely on your team.”

For her part, Freya Allan revealed to FILMHOUNDS that she immersed herself deeply into Iris’ emotional state:

“I watched a lot of YouTube videos and documentaries and spoke with people about loss and grief. I spent time figuring out what she’d been through before we even met her in the film.”
