SM City Marikina Holds Junior Fire Fighters Camp 2020

3/9/20

SM City Marikina partnered with the Bureau of Fire Protection to educate the kids through the Junior Fire Fighters Camp 2020. March is Fire Prevention Month because the onset of summer usually result in an increase of fire incidents in the country. The Bureau of Fire's theme this year is "Matuto Ka, Sunog Iwasan Na". The aim of the camp is to raise the level of awareness of children on fire prevention and disaster response.

There are 11 learning stations that the kids should visit during the camp. Every visit and activity participation earns a stamp. Once completed, the participant will be issued a certificate.

The learning stations are
  1. Ropemanship and Knot Tying
  2. Fire and Ladder game
  3. Disaster Preparedness
  4. Warning Signages and Safety Practices
  5. CPR
  6. Bandaging and Splinting
  7. Collapsed Structure
  8. House Full of Smoke
  9. Rappelling
  10. Firefighting Technique
  11. Electrical Safety

The event was graced by BFP-NCR Regional Director Chief Superintendent Wilberto Rico Neil Ang Kwan Tiu and Marikina City Fire Marshal Superintendent Bartolome O. Beliran, led by SM City Marikina’s Mall Manager Francis Brian Cruz.

Kids as young as 3 years old participated in the event. They were all very eager to learn from the experts of the Bureau of Fire Marikina.

Marikina City Bureau of Fire Protection Chief Superintendent Bartolome O. Beliran challenged me to try the rappelling and it was a fun experience. I realized also that the kids are way braver than me.
