Shangri-La Plaza Lights Up 2025 With Floating Christmas Tree

Tuesday, November 18

There’s something undeniably nostalgic about Christmas in the Philippines—caroling, family gatherings, and the warmth of familiar traditions. This year, Shangri-La Plaza captures those sentiments beautifully as it illuminated its iconic Christmas tree on November 15 at the Grand Atrium.

Instead of a simple switch-on moment, the mall delivered an immersive musical celebration titled “A Symphony of Sparkle,” offering a theatrical blend of live orchestral scoring, narration, dance, and multimedia storytelling.

Under the creative direction of Farley Asuncion and musical arrangement of Rory Fortich, the show highlighted cherished Filipino Christmas elements such as caroling, Simbang Gabi, and family reunions.

The Philippine Madrigal Singers, the Manila String Machine, Sheena Lee Palad, Johann Enriquez, the Speed Dancers, and Ballet Manila all took the stage to create an enchanting evening filled with nostalgia and holiday warmth.

One of the biggest highlights of Shang’s holiday reveal is its breathtaking decor. This year’s theme melds crystal brilliance with timeless ornaments arranged in a way that makes them appear suspended midair. At the center of it all is a massive, floating Christmas tree, the only suspended tree in Metro Manila, setting a dramatic scene framed by glowing gold and green hues. The entire Grand Atrium transforms into a dreamy holiday landscape, inviting mallgoers to pause, take photos, and soak in the magic of the season.

Adding to the sparkle, Gucci hosted an exclusive event on the same day, offering guests an early look at its Cruise 2026 Collection. Guests also enjoyed specially curated cocktails from Michelin Selected restaurant Juniper by Chef Josh Boutwood, which heightened the occasion’s luxurious atmosphere.

The magic doesn’t end with the tree lighting. Shangri-La Plaza has prepared a full lineup of festive activities to keep the Christmas spirit alive throughout the season.

The Wishes & Wheels Holiday Raffle Promo began on November 15, giving shoppers a chance to win one of two Hybrid Lexus LBX units when they make a minimum purchase of ₱2,500 in a single receipt.

Throughout December, the mall will host special holiday performances under its Christmas Ensembles: Weekend Showcases of Motion and Melody, featuring the OB Montessori Greenhills, the Ateneo Boys Choir, Studio Dance by Lina, St. Theresa’s College Quezon City, and the Mandaluyong Children’s Choir.

On Christmas Day, families can enjoy a movie date as entries for the Metro Manila Film Festival start screening at the Red Carpet Cinema. After the celebrations, shoppers can look forward to great finds during the Boxing Day Sale on December 26. To cap off the holidays, Shangri-La Plaza will host the Encore of Lights fireworks display on December 30 at 8 PM at the Streetscape, offering a brilliant way to welcome the New Year.

In a season filled with traditions, gatherings, and joyful reunions, Shangri-La Plaza brings all the elements that make Christmas special to life. The mall’s carefully crafted experiences, from the suspended Christmas tree to the lineup of shows and festivities, celebrate the warmth and wonder Filipinos look forward to every December.

For Filipinos, Christmas has always been a season that feels larger than life — a time filled with warmth, light, stories, and togetherness. It’s the giggles of children running toward sparkling décor, the scent of holiday dishes wafting through the air, and the familiar sound of carols echoing through our favorite hangout spots. This joyful spirit is exactly what greeted visitors at GH Mall as it officially welcomed the festive season during its Annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony held last November 14 at the East Wing Atrium.

A Night of Light and Community

The heartwarming event gathered special guests and partners in celebration, including San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora, Ortigas Land President and CEO Junie Jalandoni, EVA Airways Corporation General Manager Rick Hsieh, and RCBC Chief Commercial Officer Mylene J. Eyo in Wonderland: SM City East Ortigas Christmas Grand Launch 2025

Monday, October 27

There’s something undeniably magical about the holidays at SM City East Ortigas and this year, the mall transformed into a dazzling wonderland where joy, music, and family moments came alive. I had the wonderful chance to experience the Christmas Grand Launch and Tree Lighting Ceremony, and trust me, it was like stepping right into a Christmas dream!

A Whimsical Wonderland in the East

This year’s theme, “Eyo in Wonderland,” brought pure enchantment to Pasig City. Imagine twinkling lights, giant gifts, and a whimsical Christmas tree centerpiece that felt straight out of a fairytale. Everywhere you looked, there were bursts of color and joy that is truly setting the perfect tone for the holidays.

And to make the night even more special, Pasig City Vice Mayor Dodot Jaworski graced the event, joining families, shoppers, and mallgoers in officially welcoming the season of giving. The atmosphere was filled with excitement and cheer as everyone counted down to the grand lighting of the Christmas tree, a glowing spectacle that instantly sparked smiles all around.

The Stars of the Season: The Besties of Joy 2025

Of course, Christmas at SM wouldn’t be complete without the adorable Besties of Joy 2025!

Nana brings warmth and kindness, Rumi inspires creativity, Hannie reminds us to stay grateful, and Tala shines with laughter and light.

These cuddly companions are more than just plush toys, they’re symbols of the season’s true spirit: sharing joy with others. Each Bestie comes with a twin, so you can “Hug a Bestie, Share its Twin” with another child through SM's partner charitable organization. I couldn’t resist getting one myself. They’re soft, huggable, and make the perfect heartfelt gift!

The Besties of Joy 2025 plush toys are available from October 25 to December 31, and they’re absolutely worth collecting especially since they come with that meaningful “give one, share one” concept.

A Wonderland of Fun: The Holi-Squad and SM Christmas Village

To keep the Christmas magic alive, the Holi-Squad, SM’s cheerful mascots, joined in the festivities, spreading smiles and dancing with the crowd. Kids were absolutely thrilled to meet them up close!

I also discovered something exciting: the SM Christmas Village in-mall app experience. It’s an interactive way to explore holiday-themed attractions inside the mall — perfect for families who want a bit of fun and digital adventure while shopping. You can collect rewards, snap photos, and make every visit more memorable.

Magical Performances by The Madison Events

Adding to the festive spirit was a heartwarming performance by The Madison Events artists. Their soulful renditions of classic Christmas tunes and powerful live numbers set the perfect mood for the evening. I especially loved how they engaged with the audience making it truly felt like a community celebration of love, hope, and togetherness.

Wonderland Awaits You

What I love most about SM City East Ortigas is how they make Christmas inclusive, magical, and family-centered every year. The décor was stunning without being overwhelming, the program was lively but heartfelt, and the performers brought that extra sparkle of joy that made everyone feel like a kid again.

Of course, the kids also had a chance to meet Santa and even received an early Christmas gift.

And every year, I get to have a photo with Santa too!

You don’t need a ticket to experience all this holiday wonder. Whether you’re shopping for gifts, having dinner with loved ones, or simply enjoying the festive vibe, SM City East Ortigas makes sure every visit feels special.

Bring your family and friends at SM City East Ortigas and let the wonder of Christmas fill your heart.

A Living Tapestry: 2025 National Arts and Crafts Fair Showcases Filipino Creativity and Heritage

Thursday, October 23

Where Tradition, Innovation, and Culture Weave Together

Step inside the 2025 National Arts and Crafts Fair (NACF) and you’ll immediately feel it — the hum of weaving looms, the aroma of freshly brewed local coffee, and the burst of color from hand-dyed fabrics, intricate beadwork, and finely carved wooden pieces.

Held at the Megatrade Halls of SM Megamall, this year’s NACF gathers more than 300 exhibitors from across the Philippines, transforming the venue into a vibrant celebration of Filipino artistry and craftsmanship.

Organized by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) through its Bureau of Market Development, Promotions, and OTOP (BMDPO) in partnership with the Office of Senator Loren Legarda, the fair continues to champion the country’s creative heritage while supporting sustainable livelihoods.

A Celebration of the Country’s Creative Heartbeat

From the moment the fair opened, visitors—families, students, and collectors—flocked to witness how Filipino artisans are keeping traditions alive while embracing modern design.

Among the highlights:
  • Kalinga weavers demonstrating traditional backstrap weaving.
  • T’boli artists from South Cotabato showcasing their signature t’nalak cloth.
  • Maranaw craftsmen presenting elegant brassware and torogan-inspired décor.
  • Antique women’s cooperatives proudly displaying patadyong weaves passed down through generations.

Each booth tells a story — a piece of our cultural identity woven with skill, heart, and history.

Honoring the Masters of Filipino Craftsmanship

At the heart of NACF are the Gawad sa Manlilikha ng Bayan (GAMABA) awardees, or National Living Treasures, whose presence adds depth and purpose to the event. Their demonstrations of age-old techniques inspire visitors to appreciate the enduring legacy of Filipino craftsmanship.

Through the Schools of Living Traditions (SLTs), young apprentices also share how their elders teach them to weave, carve, and mold clay by hand, a moving reminder that heritage isn’t just preserved, it’s lived.

Tradition Meets Modern Design

This year’s fair also shines a light on innovation. Curated by the Design Center of the Philippines (DCP), exhibits explore how local materials can be reimagined for modern living.

Think rattan furniture with minimalist flair, bamboo lighting fixtures, and fashion accessories that fuse indigenous patterns with contemporary style. Each creation reflects how design collaboration can breathe new life into tradition — making Filipino artistry relevant for today’s market.

Hands-On Learning Through Workshops and Demos

Visitors aren’t just there to shop, they’re there to learn.

Daily workshops, live demos, and business talks give artisans, entrepreneurs, and students the chance to gain valuable insights. Experts share tips on branding, product innovation, and intellectual property, while hands-on demos by potters, weavers, and carvers bring the creative process to life.

Partnerships that Uplift Communities

The NACF’s success lies in its strong partnerships.
  • DTI-BMDPO helps artisans reach wider markets through trade promotion.
  • NCCA ensures traditional knowledge is preserved.
  • DCP bridges the gap between heritage and design.

And of course, Senator Loren Legarda remains a steadfast supporter. Her vision for the NACF is both cultural and economic empowering local artisans, especially women-led cooperatives, to sustain their families through creativity.

“Every artisan brings the story of a community,” Senator Legarda shared. “Through their hands, we see how creativity transforms lives and how culture remains our strongest foundation for progress.”

A Fair for Every Filipino

As the 7-day event unfolds, the fair buzzes with excitement — students observing traditional techniques, entrepreneurs exploring collaborations, and tourists taking home handmade treasures.

The National Arts and Crafts Fair has grown beyond being a simple marketplace. It’s now a living celebration of identity, creativity, and community — a space where tradition and innovation meet, and where every piece tells a story of Filipino pride.

Feel Yourself Pink: Avon Empowers the Youth Through Campus Tour for Breast Cancer Awareness

Thursday, October 16

Avon brings the message of early detection to students across the Philippines

Every October, the world turns pink in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month but this year, Avon Philippines is making sure the message reaches a younger audience. Through the Feel Yourself Pink Campus Tour, Avon is empowering Filipino students to take charge of their breast health early, breaking the myth that breast cancer awareness is only for older women.

Why breast health awareness matters now more than ever

Breast cancer remains the most common cancer among women worldwide, with 1 in 8 affected during their lifetime. What’s more alarming is that more women in their 20s and 30s are being diagnosed—proving that it’s never too early to start self-checks and learn the signs. The good news? When detected early, localized breast cancer has a 99% five-year survival rate.

For over 30 years, Avon has been leading the fight against breast cancer globally. Since 1992, the beauty brand has donated over $951 million, funded screenings for more than 20 million women, and educated 180 million people about breast health.

Avon’s Pink Campus Tour: Making awareness accessible

Avon’s Feel Yourself Pink Campus Tour takes its advocacy straight to where the next generation lives and learns—our universities. The initiative is designed to normalize conversations about breast health and equip students with lifelong habits that promote self-awareness and early detection.

The tour is part of Avon’s Pink movement, alongside the Avon Pink Bus mobile clinic with the Philippine Cancer Society (PCS). While the Campus Tour focuses on education, the Pink Bus brings free consultations and screenings to local communities, ensuring that awareness is matched with access to care.

Celebrity ambassadors Kyline Alcantara, Kaori Oinuma, Maymay Entrata, and Enchong Dee will join select stops to amplify the message and inspire young Filipinos to “feel yourself” through regular self-checks.

Campus tour schedule

Catch the Pink Campus Tour at these universities across the Philippines:
  • October 17 – University of Santo Tomas (UST)
  • October 21 – Far Eastern University (FEU)
  • October 24 – Ateneo de Manila University (AdMU)
  • October 27 – Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) Sta. Mesa
  • October 28 – Adamson University (AdU)
  • November 13 – National University (NU) Manila
  • November 14 – De La Salle - College of Saint Benilde (DLS-CSB)
  • November 21 – University of the Philippines Diliman (UPD)
  • November 28 – West Visayas State University (WVSU)

Voices of empowerment

Avon Ambassador Kyline Alcantara shared that she’s proud to be part of this movement.

“It’s never too early to take care of your breast health. I hope more young women feel comfortable talking about it and remind each other to ‘feel yourself’ through regular self-checks.”

Marion Limlengco, Head of Communications at Avon Philippines, added “For 139 years, Avon has been more than just a beauty brand. Our Breast Cancer Promise is about empowering everyone to act early because early detection saves lives.”

Avon’s efforts are supported by partners including ThinkPink.PH, GrabUnlimited, and Move It, forming a community that champions awareness, access, and safe spaces for women’s health. Bea Bravo, Deputy Country Marketing Head at Grab Philippines, echoed the importance of the cause, “Early detection should be a habit, not a privilege. Awareness saves lives, and routine protects them.”

Shop pink, save lives

Throughout Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Avon will donate a portion of proceeds from select products to the Philippine Cancer Society, including curated beauty, fashion, and body care essentials. It’s a meaningful way for customers to support the cause—simply by shopping their favorite Avon items.

A legacy of care and action

Beyond this campaign, Avon continues its partnership with PCS through the Avon Pink Bus, providing breast health consultations and screenings to its representatives and communities nationwide. Together, these initiatives embody Avon’s mission to make early detection a normal part of every woman’s life.

As Avon reminds us, “Feel Yourself” isn’t just a slogan—it’s a call to prioritize your health and take the first step toward saving lives.

Fire Fest 2025 Ignites Marikina with Flavor, Smoke, and Culture

Tuesday, September 16

The Ultimate Celebration of Heat and Homegrown Passion

Mark your calendars, spice lovers! Fire Fest 2025 is set to light up Marikina’s Renaissance Convention Center on October 4–5, 2025. What started as a humble chili festival has now evolved into a massive showcase of food, culture, and community spirit, bringing together six powerhouse groups under one fiery banner.

Born from the success of the Philippine Chili Federation’s (PCF) Chili Fest, which has been running strong for 7 years, this year’s festival goes bigger and bolder. As PCF President Ponchit Ponce Enrile puts it, “This is just the start of something big. We’re like-minded people who share the same passion in our crafts.”

Four Elements, One Fiery Festival

HEAT: Where the Chili Fest Lives On

Step into the HEAT Hall, home to the iconic Chili Fest 8. From small beginnings with less than 30 competitors, the PCF now boasts over 45,000 members and hosts competitions with more than 1,000 participants. This year, the festival is officially recognized by the International League of Fire, giving it global prestige.

Highlights include the “Matira Matibay” endurance challenge, fiery pod-eating contests featuring Carolina Reapers and Ghost Peppers, and the much-awaited Table of Fire—a buffet of over 200 local hot sauces and chili products free for everyone to try. Visitors will also catch a glimpse of the Fiery Cup, Asia’s largest hot sauce judging event with nearly 500 entries last year.

As Enrile proudly says, “If you try local hot sauces here in the Philippines, it’s mind-blowing. We’re the only country with a ‘sawsawan’ culture.”

SPARK: A Taste of Filipino Heritage

The SPARK Hall, led by Sarap Pilipinas, shines a spotlight on Filipino pride. From artisan crafts to cultural showcases, this space is all about what makes the Philippines “masarap.” Visitors can enjoy the first-ever Chili Cocktail Cup, headed by Chef Kalel Demetrio, and even meet a traditional mambabatok (tattoo artist) from Benguet.

Sarap Pilipinas co-founder Gwen Roque highlights the heart of this initiative: “Our focus is on MSMEs and backyard businesses. Showcasing these products helps small entrepreneurs put their brands out there.”

SMOKE: BBQ, Beer, and Beyond

The SMOKE Hall is an outdoor paradise for barbecue lovers and beer enthusiasts. The Pitmasters Club of the Philippines (PCP) promises a sizzling lineup of Texas BBQ, while the Philippine Craft Brewers Association (PCBA) brings over 40 homegrown brewers to quench your thirst.

“Lots of fire, lots of smoke, lots of meat,” says PCP’s Julius Mercado with excitement. Pairing smoky BBQ with craft beer, PCBA President Fred Calope reminds Filipinos: “These are locally brewed. We should support our own.”

Adding a unique twist, the Pinoy Prepper Bazaar ties in camping and BBQ with a mission for disaster preparedness—a fun yet practical reminder that resilience begins with readiness.

AIR: Fanged & Fearless Greens

For the first time, Horti Filipina joins Fire Fest with a plant competition themed “Fanged & Fearless.” Expect fascinating displays of thorny flora and local hybrids, perfectly aligned with the bold, fiery crowd of chili fans. Their goal? To promote endemic plants and bring horticulture closer to Filipinos.

More Than a Festival: A Movement for Local Pride

Beyond the food and fun, Fire Fest 2025 champions local businesses and grassroots communities. From chili growers to brewers, tattoo artists to BBQ pitmasters, the festival highlights the grit, passion, and creativity of Filipinos.

As PCBA’s Calope appeals, “We’re here to ask for help, and you’re there to give help. Please support us.”

Attendees can also expect appearances from celebrity chefs Tatung, Gene, Kalel Demetrio, and chili legend Johnny Scoville—making the event even more star-studded.

Join the Fire This October!

Fire Fest 2025 is not just an event—it’s an experience that blends spice, culture, and community. With chili challenges, BBQ feasts, craft beers, artisan crafts, and even plant showcases, it’s the perfect weekend escape for families, foodies, and adventure seekers.

Early bird tickets drop the week of August 18–24, 2025. For partnerships, sponsorships, or exhibitor slots, visit firefestph.com or email firefest2025@gmail.com.

Clara Benin Celebrates Her Early Work with a Two-Night Concert at the Manila Metropolitan Theater (MET)

Thursday, July 31

Clara Benin Concert at the MET

The upcoming major show marks the tenth-year anniversary of her debut album, Human Eyes and her EP, Riverchild

Following the sold-out success of her 2023 concert at the Music Museum, Clara Benin returns to the big stage with a heartfelt celebration of the records that shaped her artistic journey.

Born On A Rainy Night: Celebrating 10 Years of Human Eyes and Riverchild is a two-night concert happening on October 3 and 4, 2025, at the Manila Metropolitan Theater. Presented by minsan studio, the special show reimagines Clara’s early work with a 30-piece orchestra, under the musical direction and arrangement of Ria Villena-Osorio.

Drawing from her 2015 debut album Human Eyes and EP Riverchild, the performance offers a fresh, cinematic take on the music that helped define Clara’s voice in the Philippine indie music scene.

“Human Eyes and Riverchild both came out in 2015, which was ten years ago now, and that honestly feels surreal to say out loud,” Clara shares. “To celebrate, I’m working on a special concert with minsan studio where I’ll be performing songs from those records, but reimagined with an orchestra. It’s something I’ve always dreamed of doing, and getting to do it for this show makes it even more meaningful.”

The concert is envisioned as both cinematic and intimate, a moment to reflect on where the songs began, and how they’ve grown through the years.

“It’s not necessarily leading into a new release; maybe something will come out of it, maybe it won’t,” she adds. “But it definitely feels like a bridge between the past and the future. Working on these arrangements has been grounding, and it’s given me a clearer sense of where I want to go next.”

minsan studio CEO Jason Conanan shares more about the creative direction:

“Clara and the team started by going back to the songs, the feelings, the time and place where they were first written,” Conanan explains. “It was important to stay true to those emotions, while allowing the music to grow with who Clara is now.”

Tickets to Born On A Rainy Night: Celebrating 10 Years of Human Eyes and Riverchild will be available starting Wednesday, July 30, 2025, via www.minsan.studio. Early bird ticket prices are available for a limited time only.

DTI Gears Up for the 2025 National Trade Fair, Championing Green Innovation and Filipino MSMEs

Monday, July 14

DTI Bagong Pilipinas National Trade Fair

Get ready to experience Filipino innovation at its finest! The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) proudly announces the much-anticipated return of the DTI Bagong Pilipinas National Trade Fair, happening from July 23 to 27, 2025, at the Megatrade Halls of SM Megamall in Mandaluyong City.

Now in its latest edition, the fair brings together close to 300 carefully selected exhibitors from across the Philippines. These enterprises will showcase a dynamic range of proudly local products—from heirloom crafts and wellness essentials to upcycled home décor, contemporary fashion, and environmentally responsible solutions. This year’s lineup promises not just variety but excellence, as each exhibitor has been chosen for their commitment to quality, innovation, and sustainability.

More Than a Trade Event

What sets the National Trade Fair apart is its deeper mission. It isn’t just about displaying and selling goods; it’s about celebrating the stories, cultures, and communities that shape them. Supporting the Tatak Pinoy Strategy, the 2025 edition reinforces DTI’s push to build a dynamic domestic economy where homegrown brands and products can flourish, not only locally but also on the global stage. Through innovation, creative design, and responsible production, these MSMEs are showing how Filipino enterprises can lead in a fast-evolving world.

What’s New This Year

“The National Trade Fair is more than a marketplace—it’s a national platform for promoting Filipino excellence, innovation, and sustainability. This 2025 edition goes even further, introducing new features to spotlight game-changing green technologies,” said DTI Assistant Secretary Nylah Rizza D. Bautista, who heads the Competitiveness and Innovation Group.

She further explained that unlike the National Food Fair, which focuses on culinary enterprises, the National Trade Fair highlights a wider spectrum of Filipino creativity. From fashion and home furnishings to digital innovations and natural wellness products, the NTF offers a rich and immersive experience. Assistant Secretary Bautista emphasized that this year’s fair continues to promote the use of Philippine natural raw materials and highlights the potential of green technologies in helping MSMEs scale up and compete more effectively.

Spotlight on Sustainability and Innovation

One of the major highlights of this year’s fair is the Philippine Sustainability Pavilion. Here, visitors will find breakthrough eco-innovations and green technologies taking center stage. The pavilion brings to light how indigenous and natural materials—such as bamboo, abaca, and native grasses—are transformed into high-value products suitable for both local consumption and international markets. It is a striking example of how environmental consciousness and cultural heritage can be woven together to create products that are beautiful, functional, and sustainable.

But the fair offers more than just shopping and exhibits. Attendees will also enjoy a rich learning environment through business development seminars, live skills demonstrations, and themed exhibit zones. These are designed to help MSMEs improve their market access, develop innovative products, and accelerate their growth. Whether you’re a buyer, a budding entrepreneur, or simply someone who values Filipino craftsmanship, there is something to learn and appreciate at every corner of the event.

A Legacy of Success

The National Trade Fair has consistently proven to be a powerful platform for MSMEs. In 2024, it featured 273 MSMEs and welcomed 27,909 visitors. The event generated Php 73.2 million in total sales, including Php 62.12 million in cash sales and booked orders. These numbers reflect not only the public’s growing support for locally made products but also the strategic value of this event in helping small businesses grow.

As the 2025 edition unfolds, it carries the momentum of past successes while pushing toward new heights. With growing interest in sustainability, quality local goods, and proudly Filipino innovations, the fair is expected to deliver even greater impact this year.

Everyone’s Invited

The 2025 DTI-Bagong Pilipinas National Trade Fair will run for five days, from July 23 to 27, at SM Megamall. Admission is free and open to all. This is your chance to discover the latest in proudly local design, support MSMEs from all over the country, and take part in a movement that’s building a more sustainable and globally competitive Philippine economy.
