SM Supermalls Pickleball Trio Challenge and Youth Cup 2026

Friday, April 24, 2026

Looking for a fun and active way to spend your summer? SM Supermalls is stepping up the game with not one but two exciting sporting events designed to bring communities together and spotlight rising athletic talent. From the fast-growing pickleball scene to competitive youth bowling, these tournaments offer something for both seasoned players and aspiring athletes.

Pickleball Takes Center Stage at SM Active Hub

Pickleball continues to gain popularity in the Philippines, and SM is riding that wave with the SM Active Hub Pickleball Trio Challenge. This tournament series is all about teamwork, strategy, and inclusivity, giving players a chance to compete while connecting with fellow enthusiasts.

The competition will unfold across several SM mall locations:

May 17: SM City Bicutan
May 24: SM City Sta. Mesa
June 7: SM City Santa Rosa
June 28: SM City Marikina
July 5: SM Center Muntinlupa

The grand finals will happen on July 12 at Four E-Com Center, SM Active Hub’s newest pickleball venue equipped with six courts.

A Unique Format That Promotes Inclusivity

What makes this tournament stand out is its Trio Challenge format. Each team must consist of three players, with at least one female member. This rule encourages balanced teams, better strategy, and a more inclusive playing field.

The competition is open to DUPR 9 and DUPR 11 categories, making it accessible to a wide range of skill levels. Registration is priced at P5,700 per team.

Backed by partners like Milo, Nature’s Spring, and Philippine Pickleball Community (Picklecrew PH), the event promises not just competition but a vibrant community experience.

PBF Youth Cup Gives Young Bowlers a Chance to Shine

Beyond pickleball, SM Supermalls is also investing in the next generation of athletes through the PBF Youth Cup. Organized in partnership with the Philippine Bowling Federation, this nationwide tournament is designed to discover and nurture young bowling talent.

Tournament Details and Schedule

The PBF Youth Cup features two age divisions:
  • 16 years old and below
  • 17 to 21 years old

Each division includes separate categories for male and female participants, with a single-player competition format.

Qualifying rounds are ongoing from April 8 to May 13, 2026. Winners from each participating SM branch will move on to the Center Finals, with top performers advancing to the National Finals at SM North EDSA on May 31, 2026.

Rewards That Go Beyond Trophies

Participants have more than just bragging rights to look forward to. Top finishers will receive medals, exclusive merchandise, and up to six months of free bowling at SM Bowling. Even more exciting, players who score a perfect game during the tournament will earn one full year of free bowling.

SM Supermalls Senior Assistant Vice President for Sports and Leisure, Joseph Francis Silva, shared that the brand remains committed to supporting young athletes by giving them opportunities to develop their skills and pursue their passion.

Whether you are a pickleball enthusiast or a young bowler chasing your first big win, these events highlight how SM Supermalls is creating spaces where sports and community meet. It is not just about competition but about connection, growth, and discovering new passions.

If you have been looking for a reason to get active this summer, this is it. Gather your team, sign up, or simply drop by to watch the action unfold. Events like these prove that sports can truly bring people together.

The Dawn “Kwarenta” Concert 2026: 40 Years of Pinoy Rock at Solaire

Friday, March 20, 2026

Pinoy rock legends The Dawn are set to make a powerful return to the big stage as they celebrate four decades in the music industry with a landmark concert this June. Aptly titled Kwarenta, the show promises to be more than just a nostalgic throwback. It is a full-circle moment that honors the band’s legacy while delivering a fresh, elevated concert experience for fans old and new.

Reaching 40 years in the ever-evolving music scene is no small feat. For The Dawn, this milestone reflects resilience, reinvention, and a deep connection with generations of listeners. From defining the Filipino band movement in the 1980s to staying relevant today, the group continues to shape the local music landscape.

Their songs have become part of everyday Filipino culture. Whether it is a karaoke night, a school event, or a major concert, classics like “Enveloped Ideas,” “Salamat,” and “Iisang Bangka” remain timeless.

What to Expect at “Kwarenta” Concert

Happening on June 27, 2026 at The Theatre at Solaire, Kwarenta is shaping up to be one of the biggest OPM events of the year.

Directed by Paolo Valenciano, the concert will feature a thoughtfully curated setlist that spans The Dawn’s musical journey, from their 1987 debut album to their later releases like Ascendant. Fans can expect a mix of nostalgia and innovation through reimagined arrangements and a more immersive stage production.

Adding to the excitement, the band has teased surprise elements and possible guest appearances that could make headlines once revealed.

A Legacy Built on Passion and Persistence

The story of The Dawn is one of endurance. Through lineup changes, industry shifts, and even the heartbreaking loss of founding guitarist Teddy Diaz, the band has continued to evolve without losing its identity.

Frontman Jet Pangan shared in essence that reaching four decades was never guaranteed, but it became possible because of loyal fans who continue to support their music and live performances.

Meanwhile, guitarist Francis Reyes emphasized that this is not just another greatest hits concert. He hinted that the show will highlight key moments from the band’s journey, making it both meaningful and emotional for everyone involved.

More Than a Concert, It’s a Global Celebration

Beyond the Manila show, Kwarenta expands into an international tour with confirmed stops in Australia, New Zealand, and Singapore. This global leg reflects The Dawn’s lasting influence and the continued demand for their music across different audiences.

GCash Run 2026 Invites Filipinos to ‘Move with Purpose’ for Fitness and the Environment

Monday, March 09, 2026

Running has evolved from a simple fitness routine into a lifestyle movement for many Filipinos. Beyond the physical benefits, it has become a way to reset, reclaim energy, and pursue personal growth. In 2026, one event aims to bring that purpose-driven mindset to the streets of Metro Manila.

GCash is encouraging Filipinos to embrace a healthier and more meaningful lifestyle through GCash Run 2026. Scheduled for March 22 along Ayala Avenue in Makati City, the event invites runners of all levels to lace up for a cause that supports both personal wellness and environmental sustainability.

Running as a Lifestyle Transformation

For many runners, the motivation goes beyond exercise. Running has become a powerful symbol of self-improvement and personal transformation. It offers a chance to regain control, build confidence, and move forward with intention.

In recent years, Filipinos have increasingly turned to activities that promote both physical and mental well-being. Running fits perfectly into this shift because it allows individuals to challenge themselves while embracing a sense of empowerment and progress.

Three Ways to Stay Motivated on Your Running Journey

1.Create Your Personal Soundtrack

Every runner needs the right rhythm. Building a playlist that energizes and motivates you can make each kilometer feel like a cinematic moment. Whether it is upbeat electronic tracks or feel-good K-pop tunes, the goal is to choose music that keeps you inspired and moving forward.

2. Turn Your Run into a Game

Staying mentally engaged can make a big difference when building a consistent routine. Some runners add playful challenges such as spotting certain colors along the route or setting mini goals during their run. This simple strategy transforms an ordinary workout into a fun and interactive experience.

3. Run with a Community

While running can be a solo activity, many people find greater motivation when they are part of a group. Events like GCash Run 2026 create a shared experience where participants support each other while working toward a common goal.

Running for the Planet

What makes GCash Run 2026 unique is its environmental mission. Each registration will support the planting of grey stilted mangroves in Negros Oriental through a partnership with Silliman University.

This means every step taken during the event contributes to coastal restoration and environmental protection. Participants can choose from three race categories including 3KM, 5KM, and 10KM distances, making the event accessible for beginners and experienced runners alike.

Post-Race Activities and Green Initiatives

Crossing the finish line is only the start of the experience. After the run, participants can explore the Green Hero Village where a variety of eco-friendly booths and activities await.

Runners will have opportunities to discover sustainable payment options using GCash, donate to environmental organizations, and support eco-conscious micro, small, and medium enterprises. The event will also feature PET bottle collection stations, medal engraving services, and raffle promotions where participants can win GCash credits.

How GForest Supports Sustainability

The run also highlights the environmental initiatives behind GCash, particularly its GForest feature. Through everyday app transactions such as sending money, paying bills, or buying mobile load, users can accumulate green energy points. These points can then be used to plant virtual trees that translate into real-world reforestation projects.

Since 2019, GForest users have helped plant more than 4.2 million trees across nearly 19,000 hectares of land. This effort has also supported around 15,000 farming families involved in the reforestation programs.

A Run That Goes Beyond Fitness

GCash Run 2026 highlights how personal wellness and environmental responsibility can go hand in hand. By participating, runners not only invest in their own health but also contribute to a greener future for the country.

If you are looking for a meaningful way to start a healthier routine this year, consider joining the run on March 22. It might just be the perfect opportunity to move with purpose while making a positive impact on the planet.

Ebe Dancel Marks 25 Years in Music with Monumental Orchestra Concert at New Frontier Theater

Tuesday, August 26, 2025

Prepare for a night of nostalgia and new memories as Ebe Dancel returns to the concert stage with The Manila String Machine for a grand repeat concert celebrating his 25th anniversary in music. Happening on November 15, 2025, at the New Frontier Theater, this highly anticipated event promises to be a night where timeless OPM classics and fresh compositions shine in full orchestral glory.

A Repeat by Popular Demand

Following the success of his first sold-out show, “Ebe Dancel with The Manila String Machine: The Repeat Concert” brings back the magic of orchestral storytelling with even greater grandeur. This time, Ebe will be joined by a 20-piece orchestra led by Chino David, with the entire show directed by renowned concert director Paolo Valenciano.

The concert celebrates not only Ebe’s 25-year journey but also his ability to connect with audiences across generations. As the former frontman and principal songwriter of Sugarfree and now a beloved solo artist, Ebe continues to deliver songs that resonate deeply with Filipino hearts.

A Love Affair with Orchestras

Ebe describes the concert as a full-circle moment. “I’ve had a long love affair with orchestras, dating back to my days with Sugarfree. As a solo performer, I did a show with The Manila String Machine exactly two weeks before our government announced the lockdown due to Covid. To be back onstage with them now, with fans in front of me, feels like a full circle moment.”

Setlist: Old Favorites Meet New Stories

Fans can look forward to a setlist that blends the best of both worlds—beloved Sugarfree hits and new Ebe originals, all reimagined with sweeping orchestral arrangements.

“I thought of my audience mainly when I chose songs from the Sugarfree catalog,” Ebe shares. “But I also want them to experience the new songs with an orchestra.”

A Concert Built on Trust and Collaboration

Ebe also emphasized his trust in longtime collaborators, making it clear why he tapped Paolo Valenciano and Chino David for this milestone event. “For me to work on something this big, I need to be able to fully trust the guys running the show. Hence Paolo Valenciano, and as musical director, Chino David.”

Ticket Details

Tickets for Ebe Dancel with The Manila String Machine: The Repeat Concert will be available starting August 30, 2025, at 12 PM via Ticketnet Online and all authorized Ticketnet outlets nationwide.

Wednesday, February 20, 2019

Francisco Coching

2019 marks the centennial celebration of National Artist for Visual Arts Francisco V. Coching. Earning the title "King of Komiks", Coching was born on January 29, 1919 to a noted Tagalog novelist and comics illustrator Gregorio Coching.

Francisco Coching

Coching started his career in creating komiks-novels in 1934. His stories and artworks were a mix of Philippine mythology, heroes, legends, drama, and romance. His illustrations have captivated his readers. He was a one-of-a-kind storyteller whose story plots got his readers hooked.

Francisco Coching

During Francisco Coching's time, komiks was considered a lowly medium perhaps due to its ubiquity, affordability and mass appeal. Coching succeeded in bridging the gap between fine art and popular art.

Francisco Coching

The works of Coching has become materials for the cinematic art. Notable filmmakers like fellow National Artists Lamberto Javellana and Gerardo de Leon made his novels into films.

Francisco Coching

To celebrate Francisco V. Coching's life and influence , an exhibit displaying some of his most significant works in the hopes of sharinge this legacy to the new generation.

The Francisco V. Coching King of Komiks Exhibit is open to all for viewing at the Upper Ground Floor Atrium and will run until February 24.
