Bonifacio High Street's Pop-Up Street Guide

Tuesday, March 19

Pop-Up Street

If food park is for foodies, Pop-Up Street is for Shopaholics.

Pop-Up Street’s concept is simple. First, it aims to serve as an incubator for startups and online stores for new and young entrepreneurs to hone their brand and test the saleability of their products before they decide to set up an establishment in BGC. The city is the perfect location to test marketability because it is populated daily by close to a million residents, office workers, and visitors.

Apart from that, it provides an interim space for established brands to hold short-term campaigns or introduce new or seasonal products.

“In a sense, Pop-Up Street also brings people together as a community of passionate entrepreneurs and excited shoppers who share the same appreciation for this kind of lifestyle. It has the added value of being outdoors, which gives off that enjoying-a-park vibe. This is certainly a good option to spend free time or weekends at,” said Francesca Padilla, BGC’s Marketing & Community Relations Officer.

Pop-Up Street

Among the first locators currently at Pop-Up Street is Ethan Cash Sneaker Lounge, a team of experts on shoe restoration who promise to remove stains, straighten creases, and do everything to make kicks look new again.

Pop-Up Street

Since shoppers today are into social enterprises or companies that give back to the community, Pop-Up Street allotted space for AKABA, a fair-trade business that makes quality handwoven bags from Filipino indigenous textiles. AKABA’s customers carry stylish knapsacks or tote bags while giving back to the artisan Filipinos who work hard in production.

Pop-Up Street

Apart from these retail brands, food establishments have also set up shop at Pop-Up Street. XOXO Ice Cream, which originated in Bali, serves handcrafted ice cream in unique flavors, while Black Wagyu is cooking imported yet affordable mouthwatering Japanese beef cubes.

Pop-Up Street

“We are inviting everyone to come check out Pop-Up Street and have a truly novel shopping experience only here in Bonifacio Global City. It’s a place to find new products to love and, of course, to support entrepreneurship,” Padilla said.

As brands lease for short periods of time only, there’s always something new to offer for shoppers. Pop-Up Street is located along Bonifacio High Street near 7th Avenue.

M Bakery, Chino MNL, Elephant Grounds Open First Philippine Branch in BGC

Friday, January 25

You don't need to leave the country to have a taste of famous global flavors. One Bonifacio High Street recently opened its doors to give a sneak peek into the newest lifestyle destination in BGC. While many brands promise to set up shop in the new mall, two celebrated international food establishments have already opened their first branch in the country, with another one set to open this summer to offer Filipinos fresh and exciting new flavors. These are Magnolia Bakery (M Bakery), Chino MNL, and Elephant Grounds. New York’s Wolfgang’s Steakhouse, meanwhile, has just expanded in BGC for its latest branch.

M Bakery from Sex & the City

Do you want a piece of the famous Carrie cupcake?

New York’s Magnolia Bakery decided to open its first branch in Southeast Asia. Yes, it’s the same shop with pastel-topped cupcakes that made a cameo in the series Sex and the City. Even more, the vintage feels of its original New York shop is kept the same in its BGC flagship.

Anyone can have the Carrie Bradshaw experience and indulge in the signature banana pudding and delectable cupcakes freshly baked in small batches every day. The ingredients used are both imported and sourced locally. How much sweeter can that get?

Tacos and Tequila at Chino MNL!

Chino is a Hong Kong-based modern Mexican style restaurant inspired by Japanese ingredients and cooking techniques. It recently opened shop in the dynamic community of BGC, its first overseas location. Chino MNL owner and Executive Chef Erik Idos grew up in Los Angeles surrounded by some of the best Mexican street food in the world and worked at Nobu where he developed interest in Japanese cuisine.

Hugely popular in the HK food scene, Chino MNL brings its signature dishes to offer something fresh to the discerning Filipino palate. Using ingredients from Japan, Mexico, and the Philippines, the food menu brings together distinct flavors from each culture with signature items like the Crispy Market Fish Tacos with Salsa Fresca and Manila-inspired dishes like the Goat Barbacoa Tacos with Cucumber Mint Salsa and Tuna Poke Tostada with Arbol Miso. Its beverage menu features a curated collection of tequila and mezcal.

Wolfgang's Steakhouse Mouthwatering Must Try!

Putting up a branch in BGC is the realization of a dream for Wolfgang’s Steakhouse owner Wolfgang Zwiener, who originally planned to set up his first Philippine branch in BGC. Flying back and forth in the country for several years and seeing the city’s dramatic development into a modern metropolis all the more strengthened Zwiener’s desire to be part of the community.

Wolfgang’s Steakhouse from New York is known for its exceptional USDA Prime dry-aged steaks. With a mouthwatering entrée list that includes rib eye, filet mignon, lobster mac & cheese, creamed spinach, and New York-style cheesecake, Wolfgang’s Steakhouse deserves a spot in your Must-try Restaurants in 2019 list.

Coffee, ice cream, and chill at Elephant Grounds

Elephant Grounds is a fresh third wave coffee and lifestyle brand by entrepreneurs Kevin Poon and Gerald Li in pursuit of producing the best cup of coffee in Hong Kong. It is known for serving delicious specialty coffee crafted from carefully selected coffee beans blended and roasted specifically for the brand.

Aside from really good cup of joe, Elephant Grounds is also famous for delectable Asian-inspired comfort food, as well as their homemade artisanal ice cream sandwiches ─ think Maldon salted caramel ice cream between gooey dark chocolate cookies then topped with caramel popcorn. Combined with the modern interiors and bespoke design of the shop, no wonder it’s a hit among millennials. Drink coffee and chill out with friends to find out more when Elephant Grounds opens soon.

One Bonifacio High Street is BGC’s newest shopping, dining, and entertainment centerpiece. It’s a stunning five-level lifestyle mall that serves as the final puzzle piece that completes Bonifacio High Street as a one-kilometer retail expanse. It is open daily from 11AM-10PM every Sunday to Thursday and 11AM-11PM every Friday and Saturday.

Burgos Circle Car Club, FBDFI team up for youth education

Tuesday, October 2

Burgos Circle Car Club Snapped and Scribbled

The Burgos Circle Car Club, an organization of sports car owners who regularly converge in Bonifacio Global City, partnered with the Fort Bonifacio Development Foundation, Inc. (FBDFI) to promote education by inspiring kids to stay in school.

The Club recently made a substantial donation to the FBDFI, BGC’s corporate social responsibility arm. It will fund the needs of its adopted school ─ the Gat Andres Bonifacio High School (GABHS), which occupies a four-level building in Brgy. Fort Bonifacio in Taguig. Specifically, the donation will be used for the construction of several offices for the convenience of the teaching staff and other personnel.

To raise the funds, the Burgos Circle Car Club encouraged the members of its affiliated organization, the Manila Sports Car Club, to pledge assistance to the cause. Burgos Circle Car Club co-founder Ismael Cruz said, “For this endeavor, we came up with a battle cry ‘Sports Cars for a Cause’ to help the Filipino youth have a better education.”

This is the second time that the Burgos Circle Car Club, an organized BGCitizen community, made a donation to the FBDFI. Its first round of donation in 2016 went to the Gat Andres Bonifacio Elementary School, wherein it contributed to the fit out of two classrooms.

The foundation is grateful for the invaluable support of the Burgos Circle Car Club, a BGC community, in helping carry out its socio-development thrusts.

“FBDFI provides an avenue for BGCitizens to reach out to the rest of the community and help uplift the lives of those who are in need,” said Mark Salas, FBDFI’s corporate social responsibility officer.

Home of Sticky Bones Now In Manila: My Morganfield's Philippines Dining Experience

Monday, December 7

Just when I thought I have already tasted the best ribs, Morganfield's Philippines proved me wrong. I was invited by ZomatoPH to indulge in the Home of Sticky Bones' menu and attending the foodie meetup was the best thing that happened to me last week.

Morganfield's is located at the newly-opened Uptown Place Mall in Bonifacio Global City. Although the mall is not yet fully operational, Morganfield's already has a soft opening last November 28. The restaurant is strategically located and can be accessed without going inside the mall. It also has a magnificent view of the fountain.

I was welcomed by the heartwarming smiles of the staff. I know I'm gonna have a great dining experience right away because of the positive aura at the reception. Morganfield's staff are well-trained, genuinely courteous and highly attentive.

I was handed a Morganfield's bib (which you can buy from their gift shop for PhP200). The statement was very appropriate -- "Busy eating, please do not disturb". The food served were so good I don't want to be disturbed!

Are you ready for a foodgasm? Check this out!

THE FOOD

Sesame Shrimp Salad, PhP395

The Sesame Shrimp Salad was the first dish served. The apples and greens were so fresh and crispy. The blanched shrimps were juicy and has a mild sweet natural taste you'll know it's fresh. The homemade oriental sesame dressing was so perfect for the salad. You MUST ORDER this signature dish!

Pork Sausage Platter, PhP465
The Pork Sausage Platter has the juiciest homemade sausages that are perfectly grilled. The four kinds of sausages are: Spicy Devil, Herby Hog, Cheesy Cheese and Smoky Bandit. The platter is served with coleslaw and homemade Garlic Aioli. My favorite in the platter is the Spicy Devil and the Cheesy Cheese.

Tequila Spiked Chicken, PhP395
I love chicken. I can eat chicken every day and still enjoy it. How about having tequila during office lunch break and still manage to get back to work sober? Then you must try Morganfield's Tequila Spiked Chicken. This half serving of chicken is marinated with spicy tequila, lime and paprika and then grilled. Squeeze the lime for the complete tequila experience! Served with french fries and smoky beans.

Pork Shoulder Chop, PhP550
The Pork Shoulder Chop is grilled and served with homemade creamy mustard grain sauce, a generous serving of red skin mashed potatoes and garden veggies. This dish didn't appeal much to me because I'm not a fan of the pork shoulder loin.

And now for the RIBS...

Hickory BBQ Spare Ribs. The most tender, succulent and hearty pork ribs that is slow-cooked with hickory smoke, grilled and basted with Hickory BBQ sauce. PhP475 comes with coleslaw and french fries.

One of the dishes I cook at home for special occasions is oven baked Hickory Ribs. Morganfield's version is really good and I'm glad that they sell bottled Hickory BBQ Sauce in their gift shop for only PhP250. Who wants to gift me this?!

Garlicky BBQ Spare Ribs. Tangy, sweet, spicy and loaded with garlicky goodness. PhP475 comes with coleslaw and french fries.

For those who want a burst of different flavors to tickle the taste buds, Morganfield's Garlicky BBQ Spare Ribs is a sure hit. I really want to eat this with rice!

Smoked Peppercorn Spare Ribs. If you like the spicy flavors of black pepper, you'll definitely love these ribs. PhP475 comes with coleslaw and french fries.

Morganfield's Smoked Peppercorn Spare Ribs variant has also captured my taste buds. I like the spiciness of the peppercorn.

Spicy Asian BBQ Spare Ribs. Signature BBQ Sauce mixed with Asian spices and chili flakes. PhP475 comes with coleslaw and french fries.

The Spicy Asian BBQ Spare Ribs is just too spicy for me. I brought home a portion of this and it appealed to my husband. If you are into spicy food, this one is for you.

Jim Beam BBQ Iberico Baby Back

Jack Daniels Glazed Iberico Baby Back

These baby back ribs are a must order -- Jim Beam BBQ Iberico Baby Back and Jack Daniels Glazed Iberico Baby Back. The JD is my favorite though. The fork tender and tasty Iberico ribs are imported from Spain.

Wanna bring the whole gang?!

Ribs Sampler, PhP3,225
We Filipinos love to eat with our family or group of friends. We love to celebrate. Morganfield's offers sharing platters that are good for people with huge appetite.

Ribs Sampler. 3 (1/2) slabs of Morganfield's signature Sticky Bones, grilled sausages, french fries, garden salad, corn on a cob and corn bread. PhP3,225

The Carnivore. Full Slab of Morganfield's signature Sticky Bones, 1/2 chicken, grilled sausages, garden salad, corn on a cob, french fries and corn bread. PhP2,995

Ocean Madness. Full Slab of Morganfield's signature Sticky Bones, 3 battered fish fillets, 6 beer battered prawns, grilled sausages, garden salad, corn on a cob, french fries and corn bread. PhP2,795

Follow me on Instagram @foodiecheatday

I washed down all the ribs with Morganfield's Begonia. It's a lemon lime soda with chunks of kiwi, strawberries and lime. This drink is so refreshing. You might also want to order the Berry Easy. My foodie companions were all raving about this drink and I will definitely order this on my next visit.

And because Christmas is just around the corner, give your friends and loved ones the gift of good food. Sticky Pesos are available at Morganfield's gift shop. Check out http://morganfields.com.ph/gift-shop/ for other exciting items.

Racks My World: The Ribs and The Sauce

Sunday, July 26

I attended my first ever Photowalk with the admins of Sony Xperia Photography-Philippines last Saturday at the Bonifacio Global City. I was tired and famished after the shoot. Me and hubby were looking for a place to eat dinner and we were so glad we made it at Racks Fort Strip before the rain poured heavily.

I have always liked the relaxed and homey ambience of Racks restaurant. It makes dining more enjoyable. My hubby's favorite is the Racks Premium Boneless Pork while I'm a Baby Ribs fan. Last night though, I chose the Sweet 'n Smoky Pork Ribs.

I also love mixing their own brand of sauce -- lots of the regular variant and a bit of the spicy. I wish I can buy a bottle of each.

Have you been to Racks lately?
What's your favorite?
