Museo P. Lhuillier Antipolo: Explore Filipino Heritage, Faith, and Art

Wednesday, December 10

Antipolo just welcomed a new gem for art lovers, history buffs, and anyone seeking a space for quiet reflection. Museo P. Lhuillier, a cultural and spiritual haven, officially opened its doors, offering a unique blend of Filipino heritage, religious devotion, and global influences—all inspired by the life and service of Ambassador Philippe J. Lhuillier.

Nestled in the heart of Antipolo, the museum is more than just a collection of beautiful objects. It is a labor of love, a diplomatic legacy, and a heartfelt invitation to Filipinos to connect with stories of faith, history, and culture. From European antiques to sacred religious artifacts, each piece tells a story of the Ambassador’s decades-long career in diplomacy and his deep appreciation for art and heritage.

Ambassador Lhuillier’s Vision: Sharing Heritage with the Filipino Public

For Ambassador Lhuillier, the museum is the culmination of years of careful curation and reflection. “Many of these pieces have been carefully kept for years,” he shared during the opening. “It has long been my hope to make these pieces accessible to the Filipino public. My hope is that Museo P. Lhuillier becomes a place of reflection and discovery, where visitors can connect with stories of faith, heritage, and global tradition.”

His journey in public service spans 17 years across countries like Italy, Albania, San Marino, Portugal, and Spain. During this time, he consistently championed the welfare of overseas Filipinos while promoting Philippine culture abroad. His career reflects a commitment not only to diplomacy but also to uplifting communities at home and worldwide.

Before his diplomatic career, Ambassador Lhuillier helped expand access to micro financial services through Cebuana Lhuillier, empowering everyday Filipinos. This commitment to service naturally evolved into broader initiatives supporting culture, community, and philanthropy.

A Family Legacy of Service and Inspiration

The museum also serves as a living testament to the Lhuillier family’s values. Jean Henri Lhuillier, President and CEO of Cebuana Lhuillier, emphasized how his father’s dedication to service has shaped their family’s path: “Seeing his impact reflected in this museum is deeply meaningful.”

Camille Lhuillier-Albani, General Manager of Casa de Memoria, added, “Growing up, we often saw how much these pieces meant to him. Seeing them now shared with the public feels deeply special. This museum reflects not only his love for art and history but his desire to give Filipinos a place for quiet reflection and connection.”

What You Can Expect at Museo P. Lhuillier

Museo P. Lhuillier is designed to offer a serene, educational, and inspiring experience. Visitors can explore:

1. Religious Collections

The Kapilya de Santa Rosa de Lima provides a tranquil space for prayer, meditation, and reflection. Sacred artifacts and religious art invite contemplation and spiritual connection.

2. European Antiques and Global Memorabilia

Carefully selected pieces from Ambassador Lhuillier’s diplomatic travels create a bridge between Filipino heritage and the wider world, illustrating how culture can connect communities globally.

3. APJL Hall

Highlighting key milestones from the Ambassador’s diplomatic career, this gallery provides insight into his contributions to Philippine foreign relations and cultural diplomacy.

4. Rotating Exhibitions and Pop-Ups

Seasonal exhibitions and collaborative programs will showcase contemporary art, special collections, and community initiatives designed to encourage cultural engagement and dialogue.

Every corner of the museum is meant to spark curiosity, inspire meaningful reflection, and deepen appreciation for both local and global heritage.

Why Museo P. Lhuillier Matters to Filipinos

Beyond its art and artifacts, the museum represents a broader vision: celebrating Filipino identity in a global context. It demonstrates how heritage can be preserved, shared, and appreciated by future generations. For Antipolo, it strengthens the city’s reputation as a destination for culture, faith, and heritage tourism.

For visitors, Museo P. Lhuillier is not just a place to see beautiful objects—it is a space to reflect on Filipino history, connect with global cultures, and draw inspiration from a life dedicated to service. It’s an invitation to slow down, learn, and experience the richness of shared heritage in a calm, welcoming environment.

Resorts World Sentosa Officially Opens Singapore Oceanarium, Invites Filipino Travelers to Reimagined Marine Experiences

Friday, July 4

Singapore Oceanarium

Ticket sales for the all-new Singapore Oceanarium are now live, with exciting programs and celebrations unveiled ahead of July 24 public opening

Resorts World Sentosa has announced that ticket sales have launched for Singapore Oceanarium , which will officially welcome travelers across the globe and Filipino tourists from 24 July 2025 after an official closed-door opening ceremony on 23 July 2025. This marks the public’s first opportunity to experience a transformative, world-class marine experience where storytelling, marine science and meaningful engagement come together to spark knowledge, love and action for our oceans.

To celebrate the launch, Singapore Oceanarium will present a season of opening celebrations featuring a curated series of showcases and a variety of activities by distinguished Singapore talents — encompassing hands-on workshops, installations, presentations and more, designed for visitors of all ages to discover their role in ocean stewardship. Beyond these special celebrations, the oceanarium has also unveiled an expanded suite of purpose-driven public programmes that can be added onto the oceanarium’s day experience.

Opening celebrations: A season of stories and discovery

A highlight of the opening is Research & Learning Week, taking place from 25 to 27 July 2025 within the Singapore Oceanarium’s dedicated Research and Learning Centre . Curated for individuals interested in ocean stewardship, the programme features a range of expert-led talks, hands-on workshops, and curated installations — delivered by both institutional partners and in-house specialists — that showcase ongoing research and advance ocean literacy.

Among the featured showcases is the Living Oceans Exhibition, an insightful look at the diversity and beauty of our blue planet. Presented in collaboration with the National University of Singapore (NUS) and Sentosa Development Corporation (SDC), this showcase features curated specimens from the Lee Kong Chian Natural History Museum and research posters from the RWS-NUS Living Laboratory partnership. Together, they underscore the rich biodiversity of marine ecosystems and highlight the importance of protecting our shared ocean heritage.

Ties That Bind, a compelling photo gallery by internationally acclaimed Singaporean photographers Toh Xing Jie and Michael Aw, takes centre stage at the oceanarium. Situated within the Spirit of Exploration zone, the installation highlights the intricate relationships that sustain ocean life, offering an emotive visual narrative of interdependence, resilience and hope.

As part of SG60 National Day celebrations, Ties That Bind highlights the works of Singaporean photographers, showcasing their passion for the ocean and efforts to inspire greater awareness and action for marine conservation. The showcase also has a dedicated section that features marine animals native to Singapore waters, emphasising the rich biodiversity of our local marine environment.

Purpose-driven programmes: Experiences that inspire wonder and action

Adding to the excitement, Singapore Oceanarium introduces a comprehensive suite of signature programmes designed to deepen engagement with marine science and conservation.

The Singapore Oceanarium Insider Experience offers an exclusive behind-the-scenes journey into the heart of the oceanarium’s operations. Designed to deepen appreciation for marine care and conservation, this expert-guided experience reveals how the oceanarium maintains its immersive habitats and supports the wellbeing of its marine animals, offering meaningful insights into the wonders of marine life.

The Fossilist Workshop, conducted at the Research and Learning Centre, offers participants an eye-opening exploration of fossil formation and scientific significance. Designed for adults and families, the programme includes hands-on excavation activities where participants can unearth and retain their prehistoric discoveries.

The educational journey continues with a curated series of marine animal-themed spotlight programmes.

Animal Spotlight: Sea Jellies

Here, guests encounter ancient drifters whose pulsating grace has remained unchanged for over 500 million years. The experience includes a guided behind-the-scenes tour of the Aquarist Lab, where guests observe sea jelly husbandry and breeding efforts, witness a live feeding session and see aquarists in action.

Animal Spotlight: Corals

This exclusive behind-the-scenes tour turns attention to the living architects of the reef, revealing their critical role in sustaining marine biodiversity and the efforts underway to protect them. Visitors can also observe our aquarists in action and learn about their coral propagation efforts firsthand.

Ocean in Focus: Into the Abyss

This is an in-depth guided tour that offers a closer look into how deep-dwelling animals have not just adapted and survived but thrived in the harshest of conditions. This tour offers private access to support areas where specialised care is provided for these elusive, yet intriguing animals.

Empowering engagement through technology and storytelling

Launching on 23 July 2025, the Singapore Oceanarium mobile app unlocks an entirely new level of interactivity for guests. With augmented and virtual reality features, users can dive deeper into the marine experience, purchase tickets, participate in volunteer activities and access exclusive content to enrich their visit. Guests with valid admission tickets can enjoy priority lane access to enter the oceanarium and unlock free access to Pier Adventure (worth S$10, valid till 31 August 2025), simply by downloading the app and creating an account. Pier Adventure is a suspended web that offers a fresh, elevated view of the Jewel of Muscat, a replica of a ninth-century Arabian dhow from the former Maritime Experiential Museum & Aquarium, and its surrounding areas.

The journey further invites guests to become co-stewards of the ocean through interactive pledges and story-driven zones that show how small actions can make a big impact. Guests can submit personal commitments via their device and see them displayed in real time on a dynamic digital pledge board — a living visual of collective action, inspired by the fluid motion of ocean waves. Each pledge is also emailed as a personalised digital card, creating a lasting reminder of one’s commitment.

“Singapore Oceanarium represents years of dedicated work by our team – driven by passion, deep research and a commitment to innovation,” said Ms. Lee Shi Ruh, CEO of Resorts World Sentosa. “As we open our doors, we invite guests into a transformative space where science meets wonder, and every encounter sparks knowledge, love, and action for the ocean. From immersive storytelling to awe-inspiring habitats, Singapore Oceanarium reflects our vision of a leading ocean institute that deepens understanding of our blue planet and fosters a lasting commitment to its protection.”

Ms. Lam Xue Ying, Vice President of Singapore Oceanarium, added: “At Singapore Oceanarium, we believe that inspiration stems from insight. Beyond our immersive habitats, guests can now uncover the unseen through behind-the-scenes programmes that bring our conservation efforts to life. From walking alongside our aquarists and witnessing marine animal care in action, to engaging with marine scientists through hands-on workshops, every experience offers a deeper understanding of our oceans and the role we can play in protecting them.”

Tickets to Singapore Oceanarium are now available for purchase at www.singaporeoceanarium.com. Guests are encouraged to book early for the opening celebrations and to explore the exciting lineup of installations, workshops and conservation talks scheduled throughout the launch period.

A Love Song for the Philippines

Friday, April 4

Asia’s Phoenix, Morissette is the powerful voice behind the Department of Tourism’s (DOT) new Love the Philippines song, which showcases the many reasons to fall in love with the country.

More than a travel destination, the Philippines is home to many beautiful things worth discovering. Food, festivals, traditions, and the people all add to the connections that are developed and strengthened when travelers explore and experience what makes the Philippines beautiful and unique.

Having traveled around the globe for her career as a singer, Morissette is proud to have the opportunity to share with the world what makes the Philippines more than just a fun destination but a place anyone can easily feel at home and experience love through many forms. Born and raised in the vibrant city of Cebu, Morrissette carries the warmth and spirit of her hometown wherever she goes. "My family and I were based in Cebu City Proper. I love how it's a perfect mix of the province and city vibe." she shares, her eyes sparkling with affection for her hometown.

Where Her Love Began: A Cebuana at Heart

Born and raised in Cebu City, Morissette holds a deep affection for her hometown. “One of the things I've always loved about Cebu but only got to fully experience now as an adult, is that there are so many different things and activities to do there,” she shares. Having experienced her childhood in such a beautiful city, it’s no wonder that this experience has shaped her love for the Philippines.

A Love for Filipino Flavors

Morissette's love for the Philippines is deeply intertwined with her love for the local food. "One of my favorite Filipino dishes is anything barbecued," she shared, saying her favorite Cebu barbecue spot is Larsian, a big barbecue hub. She fondly recalls pairing every dish with puso rice, a staple in her hometown. Of course, no Filipino food experience is complete without something sweet, and for Morissette, nothing beats having a halo-halo, a popular local iced dessert. “Perfect [treat] to combat the Philippine heat, especially during the summertime.”

Onwards Across the Islands

The Love the Philippines music video beautifully captures the country’s abundance of places worth exploring, showcasing the treasure trove of experiences that travelers can expect, not just beaches, which the Philippines is well known for.

Together with her husband, Morissette enjoys exploring the Philippines’ 7641 islands, embarking on various trips, like hikes with their two beloved dogs. "We’ve been to Baguio and Tagaytay, and have also taken them on beach trips to Batangas and La Union." she said with a smile. “By car, we've been loving Tagaytay because of how close it is to Metro Manila and you get to enjoy a colder weather and all the woodsy feels. On a plane, we've been loving Bohol. We get to relax there, and I've also seen some of the best sunsets in the Panglao area,” she added.

She also finds herself frequently visiting Cebu and Quezon province the most, being her and her husband’s hometowns. “We get to see family when we visit and just [feel] right at home.” But it doesn’t stop there. Her travel bucket list is still brimming with destinations waiting to be explored, “I’d love to visit Bataan, Camiguin, and Palawan,” she excitedly shared. She’s also eager to go on a full tour of Intramuros, explore Palawan’s geological sites, and taste the famous mangoes of Guimaras.

A Song as Beautiful as the Philippines

As the voice behind the DOT’s Love the Philippines song is an honor that Morissette cherishes deeply. “I am thrilled to be the voice of the latest tourism campaign of the Philippines. I hope it reminds a lot of our kababayans of how there's also so much to love, explore, and experience [in] our country, and that we've always been rich in culture, especially in music,” she enthused. Through her voice, she hopes to inspire Filipinos to embrace their homeland, see it with fresh eyes, and fall in love with what the Philippines has to offer.

Reflecting on her collaboration with the Department of Tourism, she describes the experience as a dream come true. “I'm so grateful to be given the trust and opportunity, this has always been a dream of mine to represent my country this way. And even in my own ways as I continue to travel around the world also, I will continue to try to be the best representation of the Philippines, especially in my music and craft.” This commitment shows her passion in showcasing not just Filipino talent but also the Philippines to the world.

“I will always be proud of the Filipino hospitality and congeniality, whether here in our country or abroad. There's so many of our kababayans all over the world and I've heard time and time again from other nationalities of how Filipinos are always some of the most friendly and hardworking people. On the other hand, I will always vouch for our music scene here, both with Original Pilipino Music and local concerts. And of course, we have a lot of beautiful islands, an interesting history and a vast mix of cultures.” Having heard countless stories of Filipinos known for their kindness and hard work across the globe, she strives to carry that same positive spirit wherever she goes. Through her music, she hopes to keep the Filipino identity alive and inspire others to celebrate their heritage, as they fall in love with the Philippines, one experience at a time.

Also among the nominees are the Department of Tourism (DOT) as the World’s Leading Tourist Board 2024, and the DOT’s “Love the Philippines” campaign as the World’s Leading Marketing Campaign 2024.

Voting is open until October 20, 2024.

The winners will be declared during the World Travel Awards Grand Final Gala Ceremony 2024 to be held in Madeira, Portugal on November 24, 2024.

During the award-giving body’s Asia and Oceania Gala Ceremony 2024 held in ParaƱaque City last September 2024, the Philippines won a total of eight awards.

The Philippines clinched the Asia’s Leading Dive Destination, Asia’s Leading Beach Destination, and Asia’s Leading Island Destination awards for 2024.

Also, Intramuros was recognized as Asia’s Leading Tourist Attraction 2024, Boracay as Asia’s Leading Luxury Island Destination 2024, and Cebu as Asia’s Leading Wedding Destination 2024.

In addition, the Love the Philippines campaign bagged Asia’s Leading Marketing Campaign 2024 award, while DOT Secretary Christina Garcia-Frasco was honored with the Transformational Leader Award in Tourism Governance.

The Philippines has won in past editions of the World Travel Award, being Asia’s Leading Beach Destination in 2013, 2016, 2018, 2020, 2022 and 2024, as well as the World’s Leading Beach Destination in 2022 and 2023.

It is also consistently the best destination for diving in Asia from 2019 to 2024, and the best in the world from 2019 to 2023.

The DOT has won as Asia’s Leading Tourist Board in 2019 and 2020.

Secretary Frasco expressed gratitude to the World Travel Awards – one of the most esteemed award programs in the travel industry that recognizes excellence across all key sectors of the travel, tourism and hospitality sectors since 1993 – for recognizing the “breathtaking beauty and rich culture” of the Philippines.

She hopes the winning streak of the country at the World Travel Awards will continue this year.

“The Philippines' unique attributes are a constant source of pride to every Filipino. I encourage everyone-—both here and abroad—to cast their votes and help us reveal to the world the many things there are to Love the Philippines,” she said.

With a brand new set of nominations for the World Travel Awards 2024, Secretary Frasco encouraged travelers, local and foreign alike, to visit the Philippines as it “can’t wait to welcome travelers from around the world to discover more of what there is to love in our country’s diverse regions.”

Holiday Escapes: How Filipinos Travel, Shop, and Pay During the Season

Wednesday, October 16

Survey by Visa shows Filipinos' shift toward contactless payments, experience-driven travel; Singapore and Japan preferred holiday destinations

It’s the holiday season—at least for Filipinos—and with it comes a surge in holiday shopping, travel, get-togethers, and festive activities. With the season being a peak time for getaways, Filipinos prioritize experience-driven travel, with Singapore, Hong Kong, and Japan being top destinations. Visa’s latest Green Shoots Radar survey[1] reveals a significant shift in how Filipinos plan and pay for their travels, showing a growing preference for contactless payments alongside the continued use of cash.

Travelling for new experiences, shopping

For Filipino travelers, the holiday season is an opportunity to explore new experiences and create lasting memories as travel peaks in December, with 32% of surveyed respondents planning domestic trips and 23% choosing international destinations.

The survey found that most Filipinos travel to relax (80%) and seek new experiences (43%). While sightseeing remains the top activity (82%), experiencing local cuisine and dining (67%) and shopping (67%) are also key priorities. This shows that Filipinos are looking for destinations that offer a blend of leisure, entertainment, and adventure.

Singapore, a long-time favorite, emerged as the top destination for Filipino travelers over the past 12 months, with 38% of respondents visiting the city-state. Singapore continues to draw Filipino tourists with its vibrant blend of urban attractions and rich cultural experiences. Its close proximity to the Philippines, ease of access, and wide range of activities makes it an ideal choice, especially during the holiday season.

Hong Kong remains a favorite at 31%, particularly for travelers who enjoy combining shopping with festive celebrations. Its expansive retail scene and diverse culinary offerings make it appealing to Filipino families seeking both luxury and bargain shopping experiences.

Japan, known for its picturesque landscapes, festive markets and shopping districts alongside its deep cultural heritage, is another popular destination, with 30% of Filipinos visiting to experience the Land of the Rising Sun.

As Filipinos head overseas, many are also drawn to the Philippines as a tourist destination. Inbound travel to the Philippines is also on the rise, with the country welcoming 3.66 million international visitors from January to August 2024—a 10.14% increase from the same period last year, according to the Department of Tourism.[2] Additionally, data from the World Travel and Tourism Council’s 2024 Economic Impact Research (EIR) forecasts that international and domestic tourism spending will reach P715.6 billion and P3.7 trillion, respectively, surpassing 2019 figures by 5.7% and 1.8%.[3]

Jeff Navarro, Country Manager for Visa Philippines, said: “At Visa, we are committed to ensuring a seamless, secure, and convenient experience for Filipino travelers heading abroad and for inbound visitors to the Philippines. We recognize that tourism plays a vital role in the economy, contributing to job creation and overall growth. We’re working to support the Filipino government's efforts to enhance tourism by improving digital payment methods and providing tourists with an enjoyable experience, which will help to further drive economic development and strengthen the tourism industry.”

Visa helps drive the growth of tourism in the Philippines by leveraging its global network and collaborating with local markets to promote the acceptance of Visa cards, creating a more enjoyable payments experience for tourists. In the Philippines, Visa supports small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) by providing tools and knowledge for cashless transactions such as the SME Online Toolkit. Post-COVID, Visa launched the POSM Visibility Initiative to enhance marketing materials in tourist hotspots. Additionally, Visa partnered with the Pacific Asia Travel Association to conduct finance and digital skills workshops for tourism SMEs and Department of Tourism officials, benefiting 120 participants across Southeast Asia including Laguna in the Philippines.

Shift in Payment Preferences: Contactless and Cash

A key trend emerging in Filipino travel habits is the shift toward contactless payments. In a survey commissioned by Visa done by YouGov[4] in Aug 2024 reveals that 66% of Filipino travelers now prefer using contactless methods like mobile wallets and tap-to-pay cards, while 67% said they will likely get cards with contactless features.

"As cross-border travel continues to grow, Visa sees a tremendous opportunity to remain a key part of the traveler’s journey. The convenience and security of digital payment options give travelers greater confidence when making transactions abroad—whether they are booking accommodation, dining, or shopping. Our goal is to continue supporting travelers at every stage, from planning and booking to the entirety of their trip, by encouraging the use of Visa for a seamless, secure, and hassle-free payment experience," Navarro added.

Despite the rise in contactless payments, 71% of holiday travelers still carry cash as a backup, particularly in areas where digital payment infrastructure may not be as widely available. The continued use of cash illustrates that there is some way to go towards full contactless payments, especially for holiday destinations that have not fully shifted to cashless payments.

As the holiday season approaches, the preference for more experience-driven travel, combined with evolving payment methods, reflects the changing dynamics of how Filipinos shop, pay, and explore the world. Whether through cash or contactless payments, the essence of Filipino travel remains centered around creating memories and sharing moments with loved ones—values that are as enduring as the destinations themselves.
