Museo P. Lhuillier Antipolo: Explore Filipino Heritage, Faith, and Art

Wednesday, December 10

Antipolo just welcomed a new gem for art lovers, history buffs, and anyone seeking a space for quiet reflection. Museo P. Lhuillier, a cultural and spiritual haven, officially opened its doors, offering a unique blend of Filipino heritage, religious devotion, and global influences—all inspired by the life and service of Ambassador Philippe J. Lhuillier.

Nestled in the heart of Antipolo, the museum is more than just a collection of beautiful objects. It is a labor of love, a diplomatic legacy, and a heartfelt invitation to Filipinos to connect with stories of faith, history, and culture. From European antiques to sacred religious artifacts, each piece tells a story of the Ambassador’s decades-long career in diplomacy and his deep appreciation for art and heritage.

Ambassador Lhuillier’s Vision: Sharing Heritage with the Filipino Public

For Ambassador Lhuillier, the museum is the culmination of years of careful curation and reflection. “Many of these pieces have been carefully kept for years,” he shared during the opening. “It has long been my hope to make these pieces accessible to the Filipino public. My hope is that Museo P. Lhuillier becomes a place of reflection and discovery, where visitors can connect with stories of faith, heritage, and global tradition.”

His journey in public service spans 17 years across countries like Italy, Albania, San Marino, Portugal, and Spain. During this time, he consistently championed the welfare of overseas Filipinos while promoting Philippine culture abroad. His career reflects a commitment not only to diplomacy but also to uplifting communities at home and worldwide.

Before his diplomatic career, Ambassador Lhuillier helped expand access to micro financial services through Cebuana Lhuillier, empowering everyday Filipinos. This commitment to service naturally evolved into broader initiatives supporting culture, community, and philanthropy.

A Family Legacy of Service and Inspiration

The museum also serves as a living testament to the Lhuillier family’s values. Jean Henri Lhuillier, President and CEO of Cebuana Lhuillier, emphasized how his father’s dedication to service has shaped their family’s path: “Seeing his impact reflected in this museum is deeply meaningful.”

Camille Lhuillier-Albani, General Manager of Casa de Memoria, added, “Growing up, we often saw how much these pieces meant to him. Seeing them now shared with the public feels deeply special. This museum reflects not only his love for art and history but his desire to give Filipinos a place for quiet reflection and connection.”

What You Can Expect at Museo P. Lhuillier

Museo P. Lhuillier is designed to offer a serene, educational, and inspiring experience. Visitors can explore:

1. Religious Collections

The Kapilya de Santa Rosa de Lima provides a tranquil space for prayer, meditation, and reflection. Sacred artifacts and religious art invite contemplation and spiritual connection.

4. Rotating Exhibitions and Pop-Ups

Every corner of the museum is meant to spark curiosity, inspire meaningful reflection, and deepen appreciation for both local and global heritage.

Why Museo P. Lhuillier Matters to Filipinos

Beyond its art and artifacts, the museum represents a broader vision: celebrating Filipino identity in a global context. It demonstrates how heritage can be preserved, shared, and appreciated by future generations. For Antipolo, it strengthens the city’s reputation as a destination for culture, faith, and heritage tourism.

For visitors, Museo P. Lhuillier is not just a place to see beautiful objects—it is a space to reflect on Filipino history, connect with global cultures, and draw inspiration from a life dedicated to service. It’s an invitation to slow down, learn, and experience the richness of shared heritage in a calm, welcoming environment.

Grupo Kwadro's 9th Anniversary: A Showcase of Artistic Diversity

Sunday, September 15

Roberto Martin Sing
Roberto Martin Sing - P.O.V.

Since its establishment in 2015, Grupo Kwadro has been continuously conducting weekly painting sessions to improve the members' artistry, aside from keeping in touch with one another. Currently, the group meets every Tuesday, alternating between Gateway Gallery and a collector's residence, both in Quezon City. The live portrait sessions last for around four hours, amidst classic music hits, instant coffee, and snacks shared by everyone. It is during these sessions that the members practice or explore using their preferred medium, refine their techniques, and develop their style.

Sometimes, during these sessions, they even create a new one. The group remains true to its purpose of continuously improving the members' talents and skills. After the session, the group usually stays for an evening of fellowship that includes catching up with one another, art discussions, laughter, and sometimes music or karaoke. For Grupo Kwadro, Tuesday has become a special; a day they always look forward to.

With the member changes, Grupo Kwadro's diversity in terms of style has grown too. This, along with the members’ diligent efforts to nurture their artistry can be witnessed in the group's upcoming 9th Anniversary Exhibition entitled "Harmony @ 9" at the Gateway Gallery, 5th floor, Gateway Tower, at the heart of Araneta City in Quezon City. The show will run from September 10 to 17, 2024. The group invites all to see and experience the works firsthand.

The exhibit is also part of the group's countdown to its much-anticipated tenth-year anniversary, which will happen next year. The members look forward to its tenth year, like every Tuesday, when they can all be together and live up to the group's purpose from the day it was established.

Traverse through a journey of art, technology, and colors with BGC’s Wisdom of Da Vinci, now running until October

Saturday, August 5

Wisdom of Da Vinci

Breathtaking spectacles fill the three-part showcase, providing an immersive experience like no other

Get to see the full range of human experience translated as massive digital paintings bridging art, science, and technology as Bonifacio Global City (BGC) will finally be unveiling Wisdom of Da Vinci: An Immersive AI Experience starting August 5.

With Leonardo Da Vinci’s work as its highlight, Wisdom of Da Vinci offers an immersively different yet modern take on renowned pieces from various art masters, never before seen in the country – until now. Together with new media studio Ouchhh, BGC places all in a world of an impressive collection of digital art, redefining art through light and technology.

A taste of what’s to come with The Curator Lounge

With the use of Ouchhh’s proprietary machine learning program, visual art installations are created based on data collected from multiple sources, effectively transforming science into art.

That said, Wisdom of Da Vinci: An Immersive AI Experience starts off with the Curator Lounge, a digital collection intersecting art and science. Here, get to bask in captivating works that blend traditional art forms with technology, all of which push the boundaries of artistic expression.

First to greet guests within the Curator Lounge is the Poetic AI Gallery, an exhibition that explores the relationship between human creativity and technology. It draws on a digital library of 20 million lines derived from the works of scientists such as Einstein and Galileo Galilei, and blends the best of Ouchhh’s signature aesthetics with cutting-edge AI algorithms.

Explore further until you discover the next part of the Curator Lounge, Manila Real-time Data Artwork, taking you on a journey through the Philippines' economy. Utilizing data from budgets, agriculture, and statistics, the result is a data piece fluctuating in real-time, changing as it reflects the nation’s pulse.

Experiencing art in motion with Digital Garden of Dreams

Coming next is the first immersive hall, Digital Garden of Dreams, a hall of dynamic artwork featuring four chapters of data paintings:

Atlas, inspired by Leonardo Da Vinci’s Vitruvian Man and his study of the human body to bring together the work of scientists the world over;

DataGate, a collaboration with NASA using data gathered by the Kepler space telescope covering 500,000 stars, 2,500 planets, and 60 supernovae;

Superstrings, a cognitive performance that features real-time brain waves of the members of Manila Symphony Orchestra during the exhibit’s opening; and

Filipino Master, featuring the works of Juan Luna created throughout his lifetime, translated as data paintings.

A spectacularly modern showcase with Wisdom of Da Vinci

Keep traversing through the exhibit’s whirlwind of art, energy, and colors, and you will eventually find yourself in the mind of the genius that is Leonardo da Vinci, called Wisdom of Da Vinci, the second immersive hall. From the timelessness of the Mona Lisa down to the details of his manuscripts, this room breathes life to its own abstract aesthetic language, all created using data from sketches, invention plans and paintings of Da Vinci.

Breathtaking visuals will be accompanied by compelling music curated and performed by world-famous composer Ludovico Einaudi. ( Watch HERE )

Opening the next chapter in retailtainment

Wisdom of Da Vinci: An Immersive AI Experience falls under BGC’s vision to continue being a trailblazer in retailtainment. By pioneering never-before-seen displays, they hope to make such experiences more enjoyable for Filipino audiences.

“Providing unforgettable experiences is key in our commitment to retailtainment. This time, we are doing just that with Wisdom of Da Vinci: An Immersive AI Experience, allowing all to enter a world of art, light, and technology with our partner Ouchhh. We hope that all savor not just the spectacles we have in store, but also enjoy being surrounded with the works of Da Vinci,“ says Alfie Reyes, Chief Operating Officer of Fort Bonifacio Development Corporation (FBDC).

Echoing his sentiments, Ferdi Alici of Ouchhh adds, “We are pleased to bring Wisdom of Da Vinci to the Filipino community with BGC; when it comes to retailtainment, there is great synergy in our visions of offering captivating experiences. There’s a lot to enjoy for those who join us in this showcase, and we can’t wait for all to be part of the journey of blending art with technology.”

Drawing a better future: Kwentoon joins Globe's Hapag Movement to boost local talent and combat hunger

Monday, July 31

Globe Communications Expert Jan Merced talks about the Hapag Movement's beneficiary stories and calls on artists to unite for the cause.

In a unique blend of art and social awareness, Kwentoon, a Philippine start-up connecting young audiences to thoughtfully selected visual content, has teamed up with the Hapag Movement to help address involuntary hunger.

As part of this advocacy, 10% of every ticket sold at the recently held Kwentoon Festival 2023 will be donated to the Globe-led movement, a social initiative aimed at eradicating involuntary hunger through supplemental feeding and livelihood training for struggling Filipinos.

Kwentoon Festival 2023 was held at SM Megatrade Hall 3, with over 150 exhibitors and artists and a total 1,439 visitors. The event showcased a range of activities, including workshops, talks, and the Mango Boot Camp Graduation in partnership with the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines. One of the event's highlights was the Philippine Children's Content Awards, which aims to recognize the creativity and originality of Filipino comic artists, or the so called “kwentoons.”

The Kwentoon Manga Boot Camp graduates with their mentors, Elmer Damaso, James Atillo, and Tepai Pascual, and along with IPOPHIL Officials Atty. Jay Bayaras, Jun Briola, Gabriel Fernandez, and Tinie Baoy.

"We are excited to be part of the Hapag Movement, not only to promote homegrown talent but to also address pressing societal concerns," said Isa Songco, Kwentoon Co-Founder.

She added: “Filipino artists are actually very good but unfortunately a lot of them get outsourced by firms overseas. That is why when it comes to animation or manga, there is not a lot of intellectual property from the Philippines. So our progression is actually delayed in comparison to our neighboring countries. Recognizing the imperative for local job creation, we hold the Hapag Movement dear to our hearts. This initiative not only fights hunger but also creates a wealth of opportunities for our fellow Filipinos.”

Yoly Crisanto, Globe Group Chief Sustainability and Corporate Communications Officer, thanked Kwentoon for its support as she cited the community’s unique opportunity to use art as a way to raise awareness about social issues, particularly hunger.

“Art has the ability to evoke empathy and compassion like no other medium can. We are grateful to have Kwentoon as a partner in the Hapag Movement and to have on board visual storytellers who can draw attention to the problem of involuntary hunger through art,” Crisanto said.

Established in 2020, Kwentoon aims to inspire and equip local artists to create kid-friendly visual narratives. It connects young audiences to curated content that promotes the values of love of country and family, camaraderie, and hope.

The collaboration between Globe and Kwentoon is a testament to the power of innovative alliances that not only enrich local artistry but also address pertinent societal challenges. The partnership further resonates with the growing need for the comic and manga communities to become more socially conscious and drive changes that have a profound impact on society.

Artifract beefs up NFT portfolio with new artists, fresh pieces

Wednesday, March 1

Juvenal Sanso NFT

Artifract.io, the country’s first non-fungible token (NFT) platform, beefed up its portfolio with the latest collection of celebrated artists Juvenal Sansó, Federico Aguilar Alcuaz, and National Artist for Sculpture Abdulmari Asia Imao in a public launch held recently at the Unionbank Plaza in Pasig City.

Art collectors, influential entrepreneurs, and estate partners who were in attendance were able to clinch the premium NFT tiles of Sansó’s Euphoric Abundance, Imao’s Sarimanok Series, and Aguilar Alcuaz’s Manila Bay Sunset in a private auction during the event. Aside from illustrious personalities in the art industry, Artifract also received a warm welcome from some of the country’s most influential entrepreneurs.

“It is actually our second time to partner with Artifract. We are so happy that through Artifract and this NFT project, we are able to democratize the artworks of Mr. Sanso and more people get to own part of his work. At the same time, these people help us serve the Filipino public better by ensuring that we continue with the work that we do. We are thankful, and we are so excited,” Fundacion Sansó Museum Director and Curator Ricky Francisco said.

Artifract democratizes art ownership by fractionalizing them as NFTs, empowering collectors and enthusiasts, and even ordinary individuals, to participate in the market by making art more accessible. Through the platform, artists can showcase their artworks and fractionalize them as NFTs so that individuals can own pieces of their artworks at more affordable prices.

Using the proprietary token factory technology, a system wherein real-world or digital assets are represented by “tokens'' on the blockchain, Artifract breaks down artworks into smaller pieces or digital grids, which are then sold to the public.

Old artworks are resurrected into new masterpieces, expanding the reach of art by inviting more members into the community and providing a more stable income for artists.

“On behalf of the family, we are really excited to partner with Artifract for this event. To see my lolo’s work in a very digital space, I think it’s something that he would have been excited about, having dabbled in different mediums. He is a National Artist for Sculpture, but he also did a lot of paintings, ceramic work, and photography. Knowing that there is this entire medium out there, a new way to experience art that showcases Mindanao culture, I’m sure he would have been excited to see it,” said David Imao, grandson of National Artist Abdulmari Asia Imao

Last year, Artifract also ventured into the fractionalization of Pinoy Rock Icon Ely Buendia’s music to allow fans and music lovers to immerse themselves in his works. Users, under their avatar personas, were able to explore his music and discover a newfound appreciation for his works in the metaverse.

Artifract is a partnership between Unit 256 Ventures Inc. and UBX, the leading open finance platform in the Philippines. Under this strategic alliance, UBX provides the necessary technologies for optimal user experience and advances the project’s business and marketing development. Unit 256 spearheads the conceptualization to branding, from scouting to the recruitment of artists and art enthusiasts alike.

“All else considered, Artifract owes its success to the local art community. From the start, we have received nothing short of a warm welcome and much enthusiasm from art collectors and artists alike. We are determined to live up to everyone’s expectations and we are looking forward to partnering with more Philippine Masters in the art industry,” Rico Dela Cruz, the product owner of Artifract, said.

Project: Amorsolo is made possible by the Pinoy LEGO Users Group (PinoyLUG), a community of passionate Filipino LEGO builders and hobbyists, in cooperation with the Fernando C. Amorsolo Art Foundation, Inc. that aims to preserve and promote the works of the Grand Old Man of Philippine Art to more audiences. These LEGO projects come at no better time as this year marks the 50th anniversary since Amorsolo was recognized as the Philippines’ first National Artist for his masterful use of lighting and backlighting in his portraits and paintings that usually depict everyday life and rural landscapes.

To further promote an atmosphere of play, creativity, and community, Project: Amorsolo also includes fun activities for all mall guests. It is going to host Lego Free Play and Activity, in partnership with ToyRUs, where anyone can join and build their own Lego masterpiece throughout the exhibit period.

León Gallery, UnionBank team up for talk on convergence of traditional and NFT art

Friday, July 29

nft art

The merging of traditional art and non-fungible token (NFT) art has undoubtedly unlocked new possibilities for artists and collectors today. However, with NFT technology being relatively new especially in the Philippines, many are still wondering what this is and are trying to understand the technology. Such a scenario may be preventing the full realization of its potential to revolutionize art.

To address this, Union Bank of the Philippines (UnionBank) and León Gallery have collaborated for a discussion to facilitate timely and relevant conversations on NFT art. Focus will be the convergence of the traditional and NFT art spaces and how artists and collectors can navigate the emerging landscape much easier.

The talk is part of an exhibit by Filipino abstract artist Jose Antonio Reyes, a.k.a. JAR, whose previous NFT art collection ‘JAR Heads’ on the Cardano Network was a success. It generated over 1 million in ADA sales in the secondary market within a span of six months. The exhibition is being hosted by León Gallery with the participation of UnionBank's Digital Asset Markets Unit (DAMU).

Reyes together with key experts from DAMU will discuss NFT art and cryptocurrencies, and where these converge with traditional art. UnionBank will also talk about possible channels to enter the NFT space, including its very own Virtual Asset Over-the-Counter service, which allows customers to fund their crypto wallets in order to buy and sell NFT art.

"Through this event, we want to educate people on the developing convergence of traditional art and NFT art," said RJ Dela Cruz, UnionBank Head of DAMU. "It is not uncommon to have traditional artists transition into the world of NFT art, but it is rare for a traditional artist to have a successful project. JAR is an example of the latter, and him coming from the local scene is definitely something worth paying attention to."

León Gallery is an auction house based in Makati City that specializes in art, antiques, and collectibles. Founded in 2010, the gallery offers "historically important and museum-quality Philippine art" and is considered one of the most prestigious auction firms in the country.

5th Ortigas Art Festival paints broader stroke of Philippine art with film, dance, and visual arts

Thursday, July 7

5th Ortigas Arts Festival

Ortigas Art Festival returns for its 5th year with a month-long celebration of Filipino art in forms.

“This year’s festival paints a broader stroke of Philippine art where we encompass more art forms from visual art, film, dance, and even pottery,” said Renato “Mang Ato” R. Habulan, head curator of Ortigas Art Festival. “We want to show the diversity of talents across many disciplines Filipino artists have and we are honored to present all of those–and more–through this year’s exhibit and festivities.”

Launched in 2018, the Ortigas Art Festival was created with the goal of making art accessible to everyone. From featuring over 60 local artists during its first run, the number of artists who participated in the festival reached more than 200 and even included artists from Southeast Asia, America, and Europe in 2020.

Running from July 7, 2022 (Thursday) until August 7, 2022 (Sunday), the festival will showcase a wider variety of Filipino arts and culture across five pillars: Painting & Sculpture, Film and Photography, Dance and Fashion, ArtisTree, and Workshops.

“We believe that art has the power to connect people and uplift their spirits especially at trying times. We’ve proven that when we ran the festival during the two years under a pandemic. Now that we’re slowly recovering and embracing the new normal, we believe that there is no better time to show that Philippine art is alive and well and is for everyone to enjoy,” said Arch. Renee Bacani, Vice President of Ortigas Malls. “Through the Ortigas Art Festival, we reiterate our mission in bringing art to a wider audience and supporting the local art scene and community by including art in all its forms in this year’s celebrations.”

Painting and Sculpture will feature works from local galleries–Agos Studios, Bastedor Art Project, Vmeme Contemporary Art Gallery, Linangan Art Residency, Red Lab Gallery, Thombayan Art Space, and Makiling Art Studio; and celebrated visual artists Rita Bustamante and Rico Lascano.

Film and Photography will be led by The Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) and Born in Film who will be hosting retrospectives and late-night screenings of restored Philippine films, and from National Artists for film during the festival. FDCP will also be holding its 2nd Vertical Cinema Contest during the festival.

Performing Arts and Fashion will see Ballet Works Manila hold special performances during the Vernissage on July 7 and on July 31 while the Fashion Designers Association of the Philippines will be presenting some of its best designs and creations throughout the month-long event.

ArtisTree will have the Learning Tree Child Growth Center that will showcase some of the masterpieces of its alumni, teachers, and students from Preschool, Grade School, and High School. They will also be holding several workshops such as painting, 3D art, paper cutting, paper sculptures, pottery, and oil pastel drawing for children and adults alike.

FDCP and Born in Film will conduct workshops such as Cinematography, Storytelling, and Film Editing while Born in Film will be conducting Creative Visual Storyline and Mobile Photography workshops, perfect for Film buffs and photography enthusiasts. They will also feature 2,000 inspiring photos from around the world. Unionbank partners with CANVAS.PH to help artists and collectors navigate the emerging NFT art space

Monday, March 7

NFT art space

Union Bank of the Philippines (UnionBank) is leveraging its expertise in blockchain technology in a partnership with the non-profit organization Center for Art, New Ventures and Sustainable Development (CANVAS.PH) to help artists and collectors navigate the emerging non-fungible token (NFT) art space.

The partnership was made official through a virtual signing event last February 17 between Cathy Casas, UnionBank's Head of Blockchain Center of Excellence (BCOE), Digital Assets Markets Unit and API Marketplace; and Gigo Alampay, Executive Director, CANVAS.PH. They were joined by former Department of Energy (DOE) Secretary Popo Lotilla, who introduced CANVAS.PH to UnionBank, and who has set his eyes recently on the transformative potential of blockchain technology especially here in the Philippines.

“Art has always been a powerful tool in creating positive change, and the advent of NFT technology potentially opens up more opportunities for artists to positively impact society through their work,” said Lotilla. “Together with the leading expertise of UnionBank in blockchain, we believe that this partnership will help CANVAS.PH uplift more lives through its advocacy.”

"Through this partnership, we want the public to know that UnionBank supports NFT art and intends to be involved in this emerging space. Primarily, the goal is to empower and educate artists and collectors to mint their own NFT. We also aim to draw attention to CANVAS.PH's advocacy and artworks so that they may also attract interested buyers and supporters. We are proud of our Filipino artists. Their pursuit of NFT as a new medium is a true example of innovation in action," said Henry Aguda, Senior Executive Vice President, Chief Technology and Operations Officer and Chief Transformation Officer, UnionBank.

"These are all part of the Bank's initiative towards exploring new use cases for blockchain technology, and is in line with our 'Tech-Up Pilipinas' advocacy and our mission to continuously enhance the Bank’s capabilities and equip our workforce to continuously serve the customers of today and of the future," Cathy Casas added. "We hope this event signifies one of many partnerships and ventures that the Bank will have in exploring NFT technology and the evolving metaverse economy."

Under the partnership, UnionBank, through its BCOE, and CANVAS.PH will jointly facilitate an educational program focused on NFTs for artists and collections. This program consists of a series of webinars and a sale and auction of Filipino NFT artworks curated by CANVAS.PH, the proceeds of which will be for the benefit of the latter’s mission to work "with the creative community to promote children's literacy, explore national identity, and deepen public appreciation for Philippine art, culture, and the environment.”

Founded in 2005, CANVAS collaborates with some of the country’s best artists and writers to publish and give away pictures and activity books for children. To date, the organization has provided more than 400,000 books to poor and disadvantaged communities and public schools all over the Philippines. Each year, it also mounts art exhibitions and public art events to encourage debate and discussion on socially relevant themes such as human rights, climate change, and internet safety for children.

To help minimize the environmental impact that will result from these efforts, specifically the use of the blockchain network Ethereum, UnionBank will augment its already existing tree-planting activities, including in Ibaan, Batangas at the site of CANVAS’ planned children’s museum of Philippine art, pledging to plant even more trees to offset the potential carbon footprint.

The Bank hopes that all of the efforts under the partnership will empower stakeholders in the Philippine art space, enabling them to eventually navigate the NFT space on their own, while helping remove the stigma surrounding NFTs, cryptocurrencies, and other blockchain-based technologies.
