Live matches on the All Women’s Sports Network

Jungo TV teamed up with EGOT winner, producer, and advocate for equality Whoopi Goldberg (her long list of blockbusters includes Ghost, Sister Act, The Color Purple, and The Lion King) and launched the All Women’s Sports Network or AWSN, the game changing channel dedicated to airing women’s sports.

Now available for free on Jungo Pinoy, AWSN carries live games from nine major sports, including basketball, volleyball, tennis, beach volleyball, table tennis, soccer, American football, cricket, and field hockey. The channel airs sports matches from some of the world’s most popular women’s leagues such as the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA), the International Basketball Federation (FIBA), and the Women’s National Basketball League (WNBL).

JungoTV CEO and Co-Founder George Chung

According to JungoTV CEO and Co-Founder George Chung, “This bold new venture represents a significant step forward in the representation and celebration of female athletes everywhere.” He also mentions the possibility of adding women’s sports leagues in the Philippines to their programming in the future, “We are seeking to showcase some of the top leagues and athletes in the Philippines to a global audience.”

Top notch Korean entertainment

Fans of K-dramas, K-pop, and K-variety shows can rejoice because Jungo Pinoy has an extensive and free roster of Korean entertainment content. Popular channel Hallypop is on the streaming service with its programming lineup of music and lifestyle shows, and live concerts.

Viewers can stream amazing original language and Tagalog dubbed K-dramas like the hilarious and uplifting All-Boys High starring actor and South Korean band N.Flying member Kim Jae Hyun and Lee Seung Hyub, who aside from acting is also a South Korean rapper and songwriter. There’s also the Ok Taec Yeon (of boy band 2PM fame) and Fight for My Way and Marry My Husband actress Song Ha Yoon-led romance Touching You.

The Telenovela Comeback

A story of passion, betrayal and triumph, that’s Tagumpay ng Pag-ibig, the Mexican telenovela that is following on the heels of megahit Marimar. Also from Televisa, the major Latin American mass media corporation and largest producer of Spanish-language content, this show has all the elements that Filipinos love. From a pretty but down-on-her-luck orphan protagonist to root for, the rich and handsome male lead she falls in love with, to some villains we can collectively feel some type of way about.

Tagumpay ng Pag-ibig, together with Rebelde, the story of six teenagers attending a prominent private school and whose different lives and personalities converge through their vocation and passion for music, are leading the dramatic soap opera comeback on Jungo Pinoy.

The app is also proud of its expanded library of Filipino films from drama, action, sexy, romance, comedy, horror, and even the classics.

Millennial content creators share why Sierra Valley Gardens is the next smart move for investment and living

Sierra Valley Gardens

Sierra Valley Gardens is fast becoming the preferred home for millennials seeking both convenience and comfort. Nestled within Sierra Valley, a master-planned, mixed-use development in Cainta, Rizal, this residential community offers future lifestyle establishments and commercial spaces.

To find out what Sierra Valley Gardens has to offer, content creators Kimpoy Feliciano, Mikee Reyes (also known as Tito Mikee), ‘Mayora’ Frances Cabatuando (Home Buddies founder) and Charm De Leon (founder of Ready2Adult PH) shared the lifestyle and investment opportunities in owning a unit in the property.

A Home Close to Home

Located between bustling Metro Manila and the scenic beauty of Rizal, Sierra Valley Gardens offers the best of both worlds – urban convenience and proximity to loved ones. Rizal native Mikee Reyes highlighted its potential as a long-term home and investment, given its growth prospects.

“Honestly, ibang-iba na yung Rizal compared before. Pag dumadaan ako [ngayon] ng Ortigas [Avenue] Extension, nakikita ko na may mga new establishments na sa area and namention ng Mommy ko yung Sierra Valley Gardens. Pinag-iisipan ko siya talaga and right now, this may be my first condo na in the future, baka mag-decide akong tirhan kasi malapit sa amin,” Mikee shared in his video.

Fellow Rizal resident Kimpoy Feliciano also praised the development’s accessibility to major thoroughfares, making it ideal for those who want to live independently while staying close to loved ones.

“The busy streets of Manila are just a few minutes away, making it perfect for those na gusto maging independent but still want to stay near friends and family,” Kimpoy said.

While the upcoming MRT-4 station will enhance future connectivity, current transportation options already make commuting to work, visiting family, and attending social gatherings convenient.

Sierra Valley Gardens also features family-friendly amenities like community spaces, children’s play areas, pet-friendly zones, fitness centers, and co-working spaces, offering a balanced lifestyle.

A Future-proof Home Investment

One standout feature of Sierra Valley Gardens is its smart home-ready units such as a Smart Lock, Audio-Video Intercom, and Smart Lights, Home Buddies founder Mayora Frances Cabatuando highlighted how these technologies offer convenience and ensure the property stays up-to-date with advancements.

“As technology evolves, your condo won’t get left behind. Sierra Valley Gardens is more than just a condo, it’s a step towards a smarter, more secure and convenient lifestyle,” shared Frances.

Kimpoy also praised the properties’ safety features and thoughtfully-designed units adding, “If you're looking for a home that’s future-proof, I truly believe this could be a great choice,” said Kimpoy.

An Ideal Home for First-Time Investors

Millennial entrepreneur Charm De Leon shared her insights on investing early in real estate, explaining how starting young allows more time to build wealth.

“Many would think that real estate is something that you buy later in life, but (to me) starting early has some amazing benefits. The earlier you start, the more time you can build your wealth. By the time you retire, you’ll most likely be done paying your home loan or mortgage, ” she explained.

For first-time investors, Charm recommends Sierra Valley Gardens given its proximity to important destinations plus the perks of doing nature trips or adventures.

“The good thing about Sierra Valley Gardens is that it is investment-friendly for first-time investors because you can achieve financial growth along with personal independence. A property like this allows you to either live in it for a few years then rent it out or vice versa. So you’re forcing yourself to save for your future home or invest in a future passive income,” added Charm.

The Cities and Municipalities Competitiveness Index has consistently ranked Cainta, Rizal as the most competitive city among first- and second-class municipalities in the Philippines in 2016, 2017, and 2019 to 2024. With its increasing property value potential and access to Rizal's growing communities, Sierra Valley Gardens combines a getaway with financial returns.

The Greatest Gift: Nurturing Filipino Families’ Health and Happiness This Holiday Season

Wednesday, November 20, 2024

With the holiday season approaching, it's the perfect time to reflect on the greatest gift we can give our loved ones: the gift of health. In the Philippines, where family is deeply valued and health challenges persist, prioritizing family wellness is more important than ever. This year, let’s embrace wellness as a family affair, ensuring we can enjoy many more holidays together.

Gift of Health: A Thoughtful Approach to Gifting

While undernutrition remains a significant issue in the Philippines, as reported by the World Bank Group, the outlook is brighter. Projections from the World Health Organization suggest that between 2018 and 2025, the number of Filipinos enjoying improved health and well-being could increase by as many as 13.7 million. As the year draws to a close, this holiday season presents an ideal opportunity to extend care to all family members, not just to be part of that 13.7 million but to also inspire more Filipinos to pursue healthier lives.

Amidst the holiday rush, gift-giving can feel overwhelming. But it doesn’t have to be. By prioritizing wellness, we enhance our family’s quality of life, boosting energy, reducing illness, and promoting emotional well-being. This opens up opportunities for more shared activities, from family outings to nutritious meals, movie marathons, or even exploring new hobbies together, ensuring our time together is vibrant and filled with vitality.

Embrace the spirit of the season by choosing gifts that promote health and happiness. From boosting immunity to promoting healthy skin, a diverse range of wellness supplements can cater to each family member's needs.

LAC Philippines, as a leading health and wellness supplement retailer in the Philippines, is committed to promoting optimal well-being for individuals of all ages, offering premium supplements designed to meet the diverse needs to ensure that everyone—from children to adults—can thrive. Whether it’s improving immunity, managing skin health, or supporting children’s growth, LAC Philippines provides essential nutrients to help families flourish.

November also marks National Children’s Month, a time to celebrate and nurture our little ones. In honor of this occasion, consider gifts that promote good nutrition and wellness practices. For growing kids, consider LAC Calcium Fit™Junior with Vitamin D, a highly absorbable calcium jelly that supports bone health. It contains Calcium Lactate and Red Algae with natural Vitamin K to help build strong bones, Vitamin D for better calcium absorption and muscle function, and Casein Phosphopeptides for healthy teeth. To further enhance their nutrition, include LAC Vitamin C Junior Gummy, delicious orange-flavored gummies packed with 125mg of Vitamin C. This not only helps boost the immune system, but also accelerates recovery, promotes healthy skin and gums, and improves the absorption of iron and calcium, making it perfect for strong bone and teeth development.

For adults, LAC Taut® White is an excellent choice, enhancing skin clarity through its concentrated formula of antioxidants and revitalizing ingredients. Complementing this is the LAC Taut® Rejuvenate+ Premium Collagen. This unique 13,000mg collagen formula is specifically designed to protect your skin from Advanced Glycation End Products (AGEs), which contribute to premature aging. Not only is it one of the most potent collagen drinks on the market, but it also combines powerful ingredients like thoroughbred placenta, AG complex, vitamin blend, hyaluronic acid, and ceramide to firm, hydrate, and rejuvenate your skin, helping you achieve a youthful, radiant appearance.

Remember, you’re not just giving a gift; you’re investing in the well-being of your family, ensuring they can fully enjoy life’s precious moments. When you invest in their health, you invest in more time to create lasting memories, not just during holidays but throughout life's journey.

Globe celebrates G DAY with Digital Thumbprint Program school tour, promotes digital safety and ethical AI use

Digital Thumbprint Program

Reaffirming its dedication to promoting digital citizenship and online safety, Globe held a school tour as part of the annual G DAY celebration, bringing its Digital Thumbprint Program (DTP) to five schools nationwide.

The training workshops were held at Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Marikina, STI Caloocan, Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila, Bintawan National High School in Nueva Vizcaya, and the University of Southern Mindanao, which brought together over 1,000 students.

The Digital Thumbprint Program is a series of capacity-building workshops organized by Globe that aim to empower students and communities by promoting responsible digital citizenship and raising awareness about online safety, digital discernment, cybersecurity, mental health and wellness, and the sustainable use of technology.

The need for such programs is urgent. The Philippines faces significant challenges with online sexual abuse and exploitation of children (OSAEC). Exacerbated by high internet usage, poverty rates, and advanced digital technologies, the country ranked second globally in cyber tip reports on child sexual abuse, with nearly 2.8 million incidents recorded by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) in 2022. The International Justice Mission estimates that one in 100 Filipino children has been trafficked for online exploitation.

Globe’s DTP initiative empowers students, teachers, and parents to proactively protect themselves and their communities from online risks, aligning with Globe’s mission to create a safer and more inclusive digital space. In 2023, Globe blocked over 404,730 malicious sites and links associated with child exploitation, illegal gambling, and online piracy — a 45% increase from the previous year — demonstrating its continued commitment to online safety.

In light of the increasing relevance of artificial intelligence (AI), Globe has expanded DTP to include discussions on AI ethics. The LinkedIn and Microsoft 2024 Annual Work Trend Index (WTI) study revealed that 71% of employers prefer candidates with AI skills, highlighting the need for students to understand and navigate AI responsibly.

At the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Marikina, 50 students from the College of Criminology participated in a session designed to provide them with skills to safeguard their communities from online dangers. This training supports their future roles in public safety, especially in combating cybercrime.

Students found the DTP Learning Hour helpful for raising awareness about online security. Key takeaways included avoiding scams by verifying emails, texts, and links, being cautious with public Wi-Fi, and thinking before clicking. They valued learning how to protect personal information and stay safe online.

Similarly, STI Caloocan welcomed 50 IT students, who, as part of their Foundation Day celebrations, learned about the importance of digital responsibility in their tech-driven careers.

Meanwhile, at the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila, 365 students from the College of Information Systems and Technology Management gained valuable insights about AI, helping them navigate the digital world and lead with integrity.

“Educating students on digital safety is essential as they prepare for a future where technology is deeply intertwined with everyday life,” said Yoly Crisanto, Globe’s Chief Sustainability and Corporate Communications Officer.

“Through our Digital Thumbprint Program, we aim to empower the youth to use technology responsibly and ethically, ensuring they are equipped for the challenges and opportunities ahead.”

As part of its broader efforts, Globe also participated in the University of Southern Mindanao's Pasiklaban 2024, enhancing festivities with a special #GDayEveryday celebration. Informative sessions on Telco 101, WiFi 101, and the DTP helped students gain practical knowledge about the digital world.

In another G Day highlight, Globe visited Bintawan National High School, nestled in the mountains of Villaverde, Nueva Vizcaya, as a gesture of appreciation for the students' commitment to education. The visit reinforced Globe's belief that every child deserves the opportunity to grow, learn, and dream big.

To further engage students, Globe added an exciting raffle during the DTP sessions, offering winners GFiber Prepaid plans. These plans provide fiber-fast connectivity without a lock-up period, immediately installed at the winners' homes to support their academic and digital activities.

For more information on Globe’s Digital Thumbprint Program and its advocacy for digital safety, visit the DTP page on the Globe website.

Courage in Cancer: Patients, Caregivers, and Advocacy Groups Unite to Strengthen Cancer Care Community

Tuesday, November 19, 2024

● A forum for cancer patients and their caregivers, uniting influential voices in the healthcare community to champion collective efforts towards advancing cancer care in the Philippines
● In attendance were health advocates from: PhilHealth, Cancer Coalition Philippines (CCPh), ICanServe Foundation, Philippine Alliance of Patient Organizations (PAPO), Cancer Warriors Foundation, AstraZeneca and Philippine Society of Medical Oncology (PSMO)

In the Philippines, there were nearly 200,000 new cancer cases in 2022.¹ Cancer remains to be the third leading cause of death in the country.² As more and more people are diagnosed each year, it becomes all the more important to strengthen and improve access to early detection, quality care, and support.

This is why patients, caregivers, health leaders, and advocates came together recently to share their experiences and champion collective efforts towards transforming cancer care through innovation and collaboration. Influential voices in the healthcare community shared exciting projects during the forum to help broaden and strengthen cancer care services in the Philippines.

The gathering also sought to advocate for better care and policy change, with the participation of keynote speaker Walter Bacareza, PhilHealth’s Area Vice President for Northern and Central Luzon and Concurrent Vice President for NCR and Southern Luzon. Bacareza detailed the agency’s nationwide cancer care plans, such as the Z Benefits package that covers treatments for catastrophic illnesses.

The PhilHealth official also emphasized the importance of working with the rest of the healthcare ecosystem. “No single entity can solve the complexity of cancer care alone, that’s why collaboration is the key. We need the joint effort of the government, healthcare providers, NGOs, the academic sector, and patients themselves.”

Dr. Beatrice Tiangco (right) brings on-stage Franz Kevin De Jesus (left), a son to a lung cancer patient, to speak about how they are battling cancer together as a family

Dr. Beatrice J. Tiangco, member of the National Integrated Cancer Control Council, also served as the day’s keynote speaker and shared lessons learned since the inception of the National Integrated Cancer Control Act (NICCA)³. Dr. Tiangco, who is also the Co-Founder of Cancer CARE Registry and Research Philippines Foundation, Inc. and Consultant Director of the Augusto P. Sarmiento Cancer Institute of The Medical City, underscored the importance of pushing for localized, hospital-based cancer registry in the country—instead of relying on data from other regions.

“Kailangan po tayong gumamit ng sarili nating data para makilala po natin nang mas maigi ang sariling nating mga pasyente,” said Dr. Tiangco, who also pushed for a harmonized registry that spans the entire nation. She says this can elevate treatments through precision medicine. “We want to give treatments that are truly personalized for each individual patient, and we cannot do that and if we do not have data.”

In a panel discussion focused on multi-patient programs, patient advocacy groups like the Cancer Coalition Philippines (CCPH), ICanServe Foundation, and Philippine Alliance of Patient Organizations (PAPO) alongside the Philippine Society of Medical Oncology (PSMO) were also in attendance to share their patient-centric initiatives.

Dr. Rogelio Velasco, highlighted how the PSMO is bringing cancer care closer to the communities through their Outreach Committee, of which he is chairperson. Kara Magsanoc-Alikpala, Founding President of ICanServe Foundation, elaborated on their own community-focused program called Ating Dibdibin. Both the PSMO and ICanServe initiatives are focused on teaching early breast cancer intervention techniques.

Karen Villanueva, President of PAPO, touted their organization’s vision anchored on: pushing for patient rights, pushing for a more effective implementation of the Universal Healthcare Law, and amplifying patient voices in policy-making. Alistair White, Deputy Head of Mission of the UK Embassy, shared their nation’s breakthroughs as they focused on early intervention.

Johan Lennefalk, Commissioner of Business of the Swedish Embassy, shared the esteemed Cancer Care System of Sweden that the Philippines can aspire to emulate. Sweden is among the best worldwide in terms of five-year cancer survival rate: 90% in breast cancer, 95% in prostate cancer, and 70% in bowel cancer. Lennefalk attributed this to their nation’s screening programs—backed by their government’s prioritization of health. “We made significant investments into cancer care, as 11% of our GDP (gross domestic product) is spent on health.”

AstraZeneca Medical Affairs Director Dr. Cyril Tolosa welcomed attendees by emphasizing AstraZeneca’s commitment to patient care. “Our relentless pursuit of scientific breakthroughs and patient-centric approaches forms the cornerstone of our commitment to making a meaningful difference in the lives of those affected by cancer,” said Dr. Tolosa. “We are willing and eager to partner with patient groups and policymakers in accelerating our vision to transform cancer care – especially as aligned with the 12 promises of the NICCA Law – working towards better access to screening, diagnosis, and innovative treatment for every patient.”

The forum provided a platform for patients, like 64-year-old Lorenzo Rue, who shared his recent win against lung cancer. “Lahat po yata ng laboratory pinagdaanan ko. Nitong October, lumabas nang clear [ang baga ko]. Wala nang nakita ang doktor ko.” Rue was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2019.

Judge Ma. Cristina Laderas-Maguinao, herself a cancer patient, took time to appreciate the caregivers. “I know it’s difficult to have cancer, but it’s also difficult to care for someone who has cancer. Kapag okay sila, okay tayo kasi mayroon tayong katuwang.”

Carmen Auste, CEO of Cancer Warriors Foundation and VP of Cancer Coalition Philippines, exhorted to the audience the importance of rest, seeking help, and self-care to both the patient and the caregiver. “Dapat siguraduhin ninyo pong ginagawa ninyo ‘yung mga bagay na nakakapagpasaya sa inyo. Para bukas tayo ay makapagpatuloy. Mayroon tayong buhay pagkatapos ng cancer.”
