The barkada-themed track premiered this week on Pinoy Big Brother: Celebrity Collab Edition

Fresh off the success of their heartfelt ballad “Tomorrow With You,” Ben&Ben returns with “Saranggola,” a moving tribute to the enduring power of friendship amidst life’s inevitable changes.

Exploring themes of nostalgia, emotional connection, and change, the anthemic song reflects on cherished moments shared with friends, while acknowledging the inevitability of growing apart. But amidst shifting seasons and distances, the track affirms how love and respect remain steadfast.

“Saranggola is inspired by the ever-changing seasons amongst a group of friends,” Ben&Ben shares in a collective statement. “It is about the fleeting nature of youth and the reality that while we may not always be ready for change, we eventually learn to embrace it. What has passed becomes something worth appreciating, both in the present and in hindsight.”

The song made its debut this week in an episode of Pinoy Big Brother: Celebrity Collab Edition and will be featured in the upcoming deluxe edition of The Traveller Across Dimensions, set for release in 2025.

Written by Paolo Benjamin and Miguel Benjamin, and arranged and produced by the whole band in collaboration with long-time friend and producer Ziv, “Saranggola” marks a graceful return to form: reminiscent of their earlier works, yet imbued with the artistic depth and growth that they’ve nurtured over the years.

The multi-awarded band takes a minimalist approach at the outset with just an acoustic guitar, a cajon, and all nine members singing in unison, before gradually building into a soaring, guitar-driven jam worthy of a barkada sing-along.

“Coming from just having recorded and worked on a whole album, the experience of working on this song came by fairly smoothly,” the band explains. “Everyone focused on their own experience of what this song means to them, while maintaining a balance between melancholy, nostalgia, energy, and grit.”

Beyond the music, the track holds deep personal meaning for Ben&Ben. As they describe it, the song symbolizes their shared journey of “listening to the winds of fate and grasping the present moment.”

The nine-piece collective adds, “It's a reflection of the years we've spent together thus far and a reminder of the importance of every now and then going back to and rediscovering your roots.”

“This song was heavily inspired by 2000s R&B, expressing raw emotions as they are—no deep words, no hidden meanings, just pure feeling,” the group shares. “We also wanted to highlight the unpleasant emotions, as they, too, are a part of us and shape who we are.”

For this new sonic revamp, YARA enlisted the expertise of award-winning producer, songwriter, and recording artist JRoa, who crafted an effortlessly smooth, soul-infused anthem about love, deception, and the unnecessary baggage that comes with it. Although YARA wasn’t directly involved in the songwriting process, their synergy with JRoa was spot on. “One of the most memorable moments during recording was the pep talk he gave that day,” recalls the four-member act. ‘It really showed his passion and, of course, inspired us to keep pushing for what we love. Every time he demonstrated how to sing a line, we couldn't help but be in awe. We were fangirling the entire time, but we had to snap back to reality and focus on channeling that energy into a performance.

The result is a captivating mix of past and present—a song that honors classic R&B elements while redefining YARA’s musical identity. With Yung Bawal’s moody, after-hours production setting the stage, “Sabi Ko Na” succeeds in reclaiming the Filipino girl group’s space where they can truly shine.

“It’s not always easy to admit to yourself that someone special has fooled you, so we hope this song serves as both a reminder and a source of comfort—because, let’s be real, it’s a canon event,” the charismatic quartet reflects. “Kidding aside, we just want to be part of someone’s moving-on journey, and hopefully, this song helps them heal in the end.”

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), the City of San Juan, and Barangay Batis have officially signed a tripartite Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) for the San Juan Urban Renewal Project, a landmark initiative aimed at transforming waterway easements along the San Juan River into vibrant, sustainable linear parks.

The MOA signing and groundbreaking ceremony, led by MMDA Chairman Atty. Romando Artes, San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora, and Barangay Batis Captain Dino Geneston, underscores the collaborative effort to enhance urban spaces and mitigate environmental challenges.

“This tripartite agreement exemplifies the power of collaboration between national, city, and barangay levels,” San Juan Mayor Zamora stated. “By working together with the MMDA and Barangay Batis, we are creating a sustainable model for urban development that prioritizes both environmental protection and community well-being.”

A Vision for Sustainable Urban Transformation

The San Juan Urban Renewal Project is part of the Metro Manila Flood Management Project (MMFMP) and is designed to enhance urban spaces through nature-based solutions.

The initiative will convert unused river easements into functional green spaces, improve solid waste management, and introduce flood control measures to reduce pollution and mitigate urban flooding.

According to MMDA Chairman Artes, the project will incorporate green infrastructure and flood-resilient systems, making it a model for sustainable urban development.

“This project is more than just beautification; it’s a commitment to sustainability. The linear park will feature rainwater harvesting systems, filtration mechanisms, and eco-friendly design elements that will improve water quality and flood management,” MMDA Chairman Artes explained. “This is just the beginning—we aim to implement similar projects throughout Metro Manila as part of a holistic strategy for urban resilience.”

The linear park will feature gardens, walking paths, community spaces, and crucial environmental safeguards such as rainwater harvesting systems and trash traps to prevent waste from entering the San Juan River.

Alignment with National Priorities and Community Engagement

The San Juan Urban Renewal Project aligns with the national government’s Pasig River Urban Development Project, championed by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and First Lady Liza Araneta Marcos, which aims to restore Metro Manila’s waterways.

“Through this collaborative initiative, we are setting a precedent for sustainable urban planning,” MMDA Chairman Artes emphasized. “We envision a Metro Manila where communities thrive within green, flood-resilient environments.”

Community involvement is paramount to the project’s success. Residents and stakeholders in Barangay Batis and Barangay San Perfecto will play a vital role in maintaining the linear park, ensuring its long-term sustainability and integration into the community.

Congresswoman Bel Zamora reiterated San Juan’s commitment to the project’s long-term sustainability, “San Juan is ready to embrace this transformation. We are committed to ensuring that this linear park, and the many projects to come, will be well-maintained and maximized for the benefit of our constituents”.

A Model for Future Urban Development

With the groundbreaking ceremony initiating construction, the MMDA, San Juan City, and Barangay Batis are optimistic that this project will serve as a blueprint for other cities.

“We hope to see this project serve as a model for other cities,” MMDA Chairman Artes concluded. “By integrating environmental protection, urban design, and flood control, we can create more sustainable and livable communities throughout Metro Manila.”

At 48, skincare isn’t just about looking good—it’s about feeling confident in your own skin. Aging is a privilege, and taking care of your skin is one of the best ways to embrace this stage of life with grace and confidence. 

Over the years, I’ve been doing skincare the wrong way. I recently visited Montesa Medical Group Tomas Morato and it was a privilege meeting Dr. Anna Marie Montesa. I learned that skincare isn’t about erasing lines or chasing trends; it’s about nurturing and protecting your skin so it reflects your inner vitality.

1. Hydration is Everything

One of the most significant changes I noticed as I reached my late 40s was how my skin craved moisture. Fine lines become more noticeable when my skin is dry, so hydration has become my top priority. I do drink plenty of water but I don't moisturize my skin regularly. Dr. Anna emphasized the importance of hydrating the skin.

2. Gentle Cleansing is Key

Gone are the days of harsh exfoliants and stripping cleansers. Now, I opt for a gentle, hydrating cleanser that removes dirt without compromising my skin barrier. I used to think that facial scrubs and exfoliating soaps are better in cleansing my skin. These products are actually doing more harm than good.

3. Sun Protection is Non-Negotiable

If there’s one skincare tip I wish I had taken more seriously in my 20s, it’s sunscreen. Sun damage is one of the biggest culprits of premature aging. I am guilty of (most of the time) not wearing sunscreen when I play tennis, swim, or run errands. And I don't use umbrella because I always think it's just a short walk from the parking to wherever I'm going.

After my consultation with Dr. Anna, I never leave the house without applying a broad-spectrum SPF50.

4. Retinol is My Best Friend

I'm hesitant to use retinol. The main reason is I am afraid it could damage my skin. Well, the fear is really because I'm uninformed about the benefits of retinol. I learned that it helps boost collagen production, smooth out fine lines, and improve skin texture.

I will finally embrace retinol, and I'm sure it will be a game-changer. Dr. Anna advised I start slow, using a gentle retinol twice a week, and gradually worked up to every other night. The key is to pair it with a good moisturizer to avoid dryness.

5. A Healthy Lifestyle Reflects on Your Skin

Skincare isn’t just about what you put on your face—it’s about how you treat your body. Dr. Anna said, "You've already enjoyed your carefree years when you were young. It's time to take more seriously living a healthy lifestyle."

I’ve noticed that when I eat a balanced diet rich in antioxidants, my skin glows. Getting enough sleep and managing stress also play a huge role. Self-care routines keep my skin and mind in harmony.

6. Less is More

With so many new skincare trends popping up, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. It has always been a struggle for me to maintain a skincare routine. But at 48, I’ve found that simplicity is key. Start simple. I focus on the essential -- gentle cleanser, moisturizer, and sunscreen. Consistency always wins over complicated routines.
