Big Bad Wolf Joins Forces with Gawad Kalinga for its Red Readerhood CSR Initiative

Thursday, June 15

Big Bad Wolf Books and Gawad Kalinga are, once again, joining forces to cultivate a love for reading among individuals who lack access to books. In a remarkable collaboration, Big Bad Wolf Books (BBW) has chosen Gawad Kalinga (GK) as the beneficiary of this year’s RED READERHOOD CSR initiative during the BBW Manila Book Sale 2023, aiming to make an extraordinary impact on communities in need.

"Reading has the power to transform lives, and through our RED READERHOOD initiative, we are committed to making a positive difference," said Jacqueline Ng, co-founder of Big Bad Wolf Books. "By providing access to books and nurturing a passion for reading, we believe we can empower individuals and contribute to a brighter future."

As part of their commitment, Big Bad Wolf Books will pledge 1,000 books to be distributed to Gawad Kalinga communities across the country. Book lovers may also actively contribute to this cause by purchasing books from the RED READERHOOD corner at the BBW Manila Book Sale from June 23 to July 3 at the Forum Tent at PICC in Pasay City and placing them into the donation box. Simply place your purchased books in the designated donation box, and rest assured that 100% of these books will be delivered to Gawad Kalinga at the end of the Book Sale. By participating, you will be providing books to those in need, granting them access to valuable educational resources and empowering them to excel academically, intellectually, and emotionally.

Established in 2003, Gawad Kalinga’s mission is to end poverty for 5 million Filipino families by 2024. The organization aims to accomplish this through the development of homes and facilities in communities while creating initiatives that could generate sustainable income.

"We believe that every book pledged through this partnership contributes to building a better future for all our beneficiaries and communities," says Jose Luis Oquiñena, Chairman of Gawad Kalinga. "Together, we can all make an unbelievable impact and inspire positive change through the transformative power of books."

More Unbelievable Collaborations!

Big Bad Wolf Books has also agreed to donate 300 books to ABS-CBN Foundation and Knowledge Channel, further exemplifying how something as simple as purchasing and donating books can create an unbelievable ripple effect of positive change. These collaborations demonstrate the power of collective action and the potential for transformative impact when we come together.

Support this unbelievable cause by visiting the RED READERHOOD section at the Big Bad Wolf Book Sale open daily from June 23 to July 3, 2023, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 AM at the PICC Forum Tent in Pasay City. Your book purchases will not only bring joy and knowledge into your own life but will also contribute to building a better future for individuals and communities in need.

Lampara Books Guiding Light

Lampara Books has recently launched Guiding Light, a new Philippine imprint that hopes to encourage parents and families to be a good influence on their children’s journey to life.

The family-oriented and faith-based imprint aims to promote spiritual formation, values education, emotional growth, and community development through highly entertaining but transformative books written and designed by some of the world’s most promising and award-winning writers, illustrators, and personalities.

“It has always been our goal to inspire adult readers, most especially parents, to engage with their children on stories of inspiration, joy, and life lessons within a framework of Christ-centered beliefs and teachings,” says Segundo D. Matias Jr., the Chief Publisher of Lampara Books. “Our activity books create bonding moments between mom and dad with their kids through storytelling that put good values at the forefront of its principles, while inspiring everyone to become a better human being.”

For its premiere offering, Guiding Light has recently released its ‘Little Life Lessons on’ series—a collection of fun activity books that parents and their children can color, play around with, and use as a medium for purpose-driven instruction. Written in both English and Filipino, the series is made for childhood care providers and parents to help their kids learn important values in life. The ‘Little Life Lessons on’ catalog contains inspirational stories that depict kindness, obedience, respect, and love, among many others.

The motivational imprint also takes pride of its Family Bible Illustrated edition, which has 365 pages of bible stories, meditations, and prayers for the whole family to reflect on together, and The Comic Book Bible, which offers a treasury of stories, known and loved by generations of readers.

For readers who are looking for a refreshing spin to the familiar narrative, there is Classic Bible Stories, illustrated for pictures-and-words format by talented young artist Tommaso d' Incalei. Bringing stories to life for a new generation of readers, this timeless collection will inspire people discover the meaning behind the teachings of God in an exciting and easy-to-read way. Another significant title under its banner is The Classic Children’s Bible, which is beautifully illustrated and presented to cater to a younger readership.

Other titles that are currently available at the Guiding Light website are Rhona Davies’ The Life Of Christ, strikingly illustrated to chronicle the important life events that Jesus Christ went through from his days in Galilee to joining God in heaven, and Angela M. Burrin’s Welcome To The Mass, a beautifully illustrated book that ‘explains the Mass by linking the liturgy to scenes from the Gospels.’

The classic and new titles are available at the Guiding Light official website.
