When it comes to retirement, most Filipinos think it’s all about saving money. But according to the latest InLife Retirement Index, financial stability is just one part of the story and the Philippines still has a long way to go.

The country’s retirement readiness score is only 47 out of 100, showing that while many Filipinos want a comfortable retirement, few are truly prepared for it. The study, developed by Insular Life (InLife), the country’s largest Filipino life insurer, takes a holistic approach to retirement, showing that it’s more than just about income.

Retirement Is More Than Savings, It’s a Way of Life

The InLife Retirement Index measures readiness using six key factors:
  • Life stage
  • Personal finances
  • Health
  • Pension participation
  • Retirement sentiment
  • Social support

As InLife Chief Marketing Officer Gae L. Martinez explained, “Retirement isn’t just a financial milestone, it’s emotional, social, and cultural. If we only focus on money, we miss out on what makes retirement truly secure and meaningful.”

Who’s Most Ready for Retirement? Gen X Leads the Pack

Among generations, Gen X (ages 40–54) scored the highest at 54, showing that maturity and stable income help boost retirement confidence. Meanwhile, Gen Z scored the lowest at 36, though many young respondents said they already have plans for the future, they just haven’t turned them into concrete action yet.

The data also showed that InLife policyholders scored higher (62) than non-policyholders (42), proving that insurance and investments greatly improve long-term readiness. Married individuals and small families also fared better, while single Filipinos and informal workers lagged due to financial strain and lack of pension participation.

Health and Social Support Are Key Retirement Pillars

The study revealed that those who plan well for retirement also prepare for health emergencies, a must as chronic illnesses rise with age. Having separate funds for healthcare provides stronger security later in life.

Filipinos with strong social networks such as family or community support also scored higher on the Index. This highlights how emotional and social well-being are just as important as financial preparedness.

Interestingly, the report found a gender gap: women averaged 45, while men scored 49, mainly because men tend to have more formal employment and investment opportunities.

The PLDT High Speed Hitters are coming into the 2025 PVL Reinforced Conference with renewed confidence, international firepower, and a mission to complete their dream run. At the heart of PLDT’s new lineup is Russian outside hitter Anastasiia Bavykina, a 6’2” veteran with over 15 years of professional experience spanning Russia, Europe, Asia, and the United States. According to Coach Rald Ricafort, Bavykina is exactly what the team needed.

Taho Story and Uratex Dream Rule Red Bull Half Court PH, Set to Represent the Philippines at Dubai World Finals

The energy was off the charts as the Red Bull Half Court National Finals 2025 brought the heat to Parqal, Aseana City on October 25, uniting the country’s top 3x3 basketball talents from Davao, Cebu, and Manila plus wildcard teams for a one-day, winner-takes-all showdown.

This wasn’t just basketball. It was pure streetball culture come to life complete with high-flying dunks, thumping beats, and the fierce fighting spirit that defines Filipino hoops.

Streetball Meets Spectacle: A Celebration of Filipino Basketball

Hosted by the ever-energetic MC Pao Avila, the event wasn’t short on entertainment. The Philippine All Stars turned up the volume with an electrifying dance performance, while Stance Philippines rolled in their head-turning Street Car Showcase. Adding to the streetball flair, HoopJeep’s mobile court setup gave fans a front-row seat to the action.

Fans also joined in the fun with contests like the Dunk Competition, where creativity met vertical mastery, and the Two-Point Shootout, which had spectators roaring with every buzzer-beater.

Under Red Bull Half Court’s intense 12-second shot clock and “first to 21” rule, every second counted. With no room for hesitation, every possession became a battle of skill, hustle, and chemistry.

Taho Story Claims Men’s National Title with Defense and Heart


Taho Story fought their way through the men’s bracket, defeating Fit ’N’ Grind in a clutch 9–5 final to claim the Red Bull Half Court Men’s National Championship.

The team credited their defensive discipline and teamwork for the victory.

“Even if one of us makes a mistake, we motivate each other to stay focused,” shared one of the players.

Now bound for the World Finals in Dubai, the team expressed both pride and excitement to represent the Philippines on the international stage.

“It’s overwhelming for us to represent the country. This is a great opportunity to improve our 3x3 game,” they said.

They also left a message for Filipino fans:

“Keep supporting us—it motivates us to bring our A-game against the best in the world.”

Uratex Dream Dominates the Women’s Division


Over in the women’s bracket, Uratex Dream shined bright with an emphatic 22–8 victory over sister team Uratex Tibay, reclaiming their national crown and punching another ticket to Dubai.

For the team, chemistry and preparation made all the difference.

“You can see how well our training translated into our game. No slowing down, just keep working hard,” shared one player.

Having competed in last year’s Red Bull Half Court World Finals, the returning team is eager to make another run for the championship.

“We’re excited to represent the Philippines again. We’ll do our best to bring home the title.”

The players also encouraged fans to keep rallying behind women’s basketball as they gear up for the Dubai World Finals this November.

With the national titles secured, Taho Story and Uratex Dream are now set to face the world’s best 3x3 squads from 19 countries at the Red Bull Half Court World Final in Dubai from November 27 to 29, 2025.
