Nissan GT Academy 2016: Are You The Next Champion?

Joward Policarpio has made the Philippines proud when he emerged as the fastest among the drivers of other Asian countries at the 2015 Nissan GT Academy Asia leg. Joward is the first Nissan GT Academy Asia champion and the first Filipino to win the title.




The success at the 2015 Nissan GT Academy race has proven that the Filipinos are very competitive. Nissan Philippines confirmed its participation in the upcoming Nissan GT Academy 2016. 




An exclusive screening of the Nissan Academy Reality Show for the media partners, dealers and friends of Nissan Philippines was held last April 11, 2016 at the Bonifacio High Street Cinema. The show was produced by Nissan Philippines' broadcast partner ABS-CBN.

A virtual to reality racing competition, the Nissan GT Academy gives aspiring race car drivers a chance to fulfill their dreams of participating in a professional international race.

"The Nissan GT Academy is Nissan's way of democratizing motorsports, to make it more accessible to the general public.", said SJ Huh, Nissan Philippines General Manager for Marketing. "By doing this, we help fast-track the dreams of more potential Filipino racers to reach the international racing arena."

First launched locally in March 2015, the Nissan GT Academy was participated by over 15,000 virtual race drivers in more than 20 live events held in the key cities in the country.

Nissan Philippines has all the reasons to celebrate last January 8 at the Revel Bar in Uptown Bonifacio. It has been a record year in 2015 and NPI President and Managing Director Mr. Antonio Zara can't be nothing but happy.

10. Falling for the Laoag sand dunes

It was a fun adventurous day last March when a group of media contingents conquered the sand dunes in Ilocos Norte while the new tough and smart Nissan Navara NP300 pick up truck showed off its power. The success of the Nissan Navara NP300 in the local automotive scene mirrors its performance globally, as the vehicle was also awarded the International Pick-Up Award  in Lyon, France.

2015 saw NPI teaming up with the Tourism Promotions Board (TPB), the marketing and promotions arm of the Department of Tourism (DOT), in the "Visit the Philippines, Drive to Discover with Nissan" project that promote local tourism through road travel, in support of the DOT's "It's More Fun in the Philippines" campaign. It kicked off at the Higantes Festival in Angono, Rizal, where select media drove the new Nissan Almera.

For the first time ever, the Nissan GT Academy Asia was held in the Philippines. The program seeks to find the best aspiring race car driver through a virtual competition to test their racing skills. From among the 15,000 participants, 6 Filipino gamers advanced to Silverstone Race Circuit in the UK to compete with the best gamers in Asia in a real motorsport combat. A Filipino virtual gamer and motorsport enthusiast, 26-year old Joward Policarpio, emerged victorious to become the first Nissan GT Academy Asia Champion.

Nissan ramped up its nationwide presence, starting with the expansion of its dealership network with 11 new dealers in key cities and provincial areas in 2015.

To bring the brand even closer to its customers, Nissan also unveiled an industry first: the Nissan Parts Online. The Nissan Parts Online is a new online shopping platform where customers can easily view and purchase genuine parts, accessories and merchandise in the comfort of their homes. Products are showcased in an online catalogue, and can be easily searched by car part, year, or vehicle model. Car owners can then purchase these items and have it delivered to their homes within 24 hours in Metro Manila, with no delivery charge.

In line with Nissan's commitment to delivering exceptional customer experience, the company held its 2nd Nissan Service Technician Excellence Competency Award (NISAC) at the Nissan Training Center in Sta. Rosa, Laguna. The competition, designed to showcase the technical skills and knowledge of the Nissan Technicians and the customer service relations management skills of the Service Advisors, is seen to boost the standards of the Nissan after-sales group.

Nissan Philippines Inc. continues to deliver on its promise of "Innovation that Excites" as it ends 2015 with a record  60% growth in vehicle sales. 

Nissan's success locally is reflective of its global success as Nissan was named as one of the top global brands for 2015, according to Interbrand's "Best Global Brands Study". The company was ranked at 49, up from 56 in 2014 and 90 with a brand valuation of $3.819B from the company's inaugural appearance on the list in 2011. This made Nissan the fastest-rising automotive brand in this year's study.

2. Building houses with Habitat for Humanity

With all the successes for the company in 2015, Nissan Philippines gave back to the community by partnering with Habitat for Humanity Philippines (HFH-P). Nissan Philippines concretized its tie-up by donating a NV350 Urvan and a NP300 Navara Pick-Up to HFH-P during the signing of the Memorandum of Agreement.

Later in the year, NPI and HFH-P conducted a Shelter Rebuild Drive in Oras, Eastern Samar for typhoon Ruby victims, as well as spearheaded a house building project at Bistekville 5 in Barangay Payatas, Quezon City.

The new Nissan Almera brings an updated look from the previous version. Elegant lines and premium finishes on the exterior create an eye-catching presence on the road. A redesigned front bumper with boomerang-inspired headlamps, a bigger and bolder front grille, and front chromed accents all present a striking appearance. At the back, a remodeled rear bumper is complemented with black diffuser cladding and chromed trunk garnish. A large lip spoiler and newly-designed 12-spoke alloy wheels also add to the sportiness of the vehicle's design.

Inside, the refreshed Nissan Almera's cabin features a new center cluster layout with a piano black finish. Adding to the premium interior design are the new multi-information display, three-spoke steering wheel, and high quality leather seats in the top range variant. The new Nissan Almera features upgraded, high quality parts and technology, which lengthens the intervals between periodic maintenance service (PMS). In addition, the cost of spare parts for the new Nissan Almera are also lower than before. This keeps maintenance costs down at 30% lower than other cars of its class.

The new Nissan Almera now offers two different power trains to suit the customers' requirements. The 1.5L VL engine features automatic transmission with an inline 4-cylinder DOHC 16-valve engine with a power of 99ps at 6,000 and a torque of 134NM at 4,000 rpm. 

The 1.2L manual transmission, on the other hand, features a DOHC CVT engine, with a power of 79ps at 6,000 rpm and torque of 106NM at 4,400 rpm, ensuring maximum fuel efficiency without compromising driving pleasure. Suspension for the vehicle is provided by MacPherson strut at the front and a rigid axle and torsion beam at the rear.
