Leading finance super app GCash has been highlighted in the recent study conducted by RLR Research & Analysis as the #1 digital lending brand in the Philippines in 2024 following the launch of its newest GLoan feature– powered by its official lending arm, Fuse Lending. The study shows that 61% of digital lending users in the country are GLoan users, surpassing 12 other financial apps in the country.

Additionally, 2 out of 10 borrowers are housewives or househusbands. Notably, 84% of GLoan users are first-time borrowers in the formal credit system, with 6 out of 10 having never used digital loan services before. The study also indicates that a similar proportion of GLoan users have not accessed traditional loan services, such as those provided by banks or the government.

GLoan has allowed them to build their credit by providing them with their first formal loans and ultimately, transforming the way Filipinos access formal lending services. Ruffa Mae Quinto has a new viral video that has caught the attention of Filipinos online.

In a tongue-in-cheek mockumentary, Rufa Mae plays the character of Luffa May, a woman with a faux sickness called ‘Di Sulit Hypersensitivity (DSHS), which makes her itchy when she sees or touches anything that’s not sulit (worth the price).

In the film, Luffa May is seen scratching her body when she came in contact with an expensive piece of clothing. She also narrated that she couldn’t pass through their dining area because a family member installed a chandelier. When her partner took her out on a date, she refused to order a meal because of DSHS. She instead brought out a can of tuna, which according to her, doesn’t make her itch because it’s sulit.


The film has garnered over two million views just 24 hours after it was posted on Facebook. One user commented, “Nice ad! Funny and relevant. Dapat sa sulit lang talaga lagi, kasi ang mahal na ng mga bilihin! (With skyrocketing prices of consumer goods, smart spending should be the trend.)”

The Red Carpet Cinemas screened 6 Studio Ghibli classics to honor 2024 Ramon Magsaysay Awardees

It was a weekend of exploring enchanting worlds and celebrating humanitarian excellence, as Shangri-La Plaza featured the beloved animation works of Japanese master filmmaker Hayao Miyazaki at the Studio Ghibli Weekend Film Festival. Held at the Red Carpet Cinemas last November 16 and 17, the weekend treat showcased six of Miyazaki’s masterpieces to mark his new milestone as a recipient of the 2024 Ramon Magsaysay Award.

During the mini film fest, audiences reveled in the magic of iconic Ghibli classics such as the ecological heroism of NausicaƤ of the Valley of the Wind (1984) and the whimsical underwater adventure of Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea (2008). The lineup also included the breathtaking fantasy of Howl’s Moving Castle (2004), the unforgettable adventure of Spirited Away (2001), the heartwarming tale of sisterhood and magic in My Neighbor Totoro (1988), and the thrilling journey to the mysterious floating island in Castle in the Sky (1986).


The lineup was a fitting ode to Miyazaki who received Asia’s premier prize and highest honor for using “animation to explore complex human issues, inspiring audiences with thought-provoking films that champion nature, peace, and humanity.”

Hosted in partnership with The Japan Foundation, Manila and the Ramon Magsaysay Award Foundation (RMAF), the Studio Ghibli weekend also celebrated the remarkable achievements of all the 2024 Ramon Magsaysay Awardees. Among the distinguished attendees at the Red Carpet Cinemas were Bhutan’s Karma Phuntsho, honored for his efforts to preserve his nation’s cultural heritage, representatives from Thailand’s Rural Doctors Movement, recognized for their dedication to delivering healthcare to remote rural communities, and even Studio Ghibli's Vice President for Events and Exhibitions, Mr. Kenichi Yoda.

Other 2024 Ramon Magsaysay Awardees are Nguyen Thi Ngoc Phuong, a doctor during the Vietnam War who witnessed severe birth defects in newborns and dedicated her life to uncovering the truth about Agent Orange, and Farwiza Farhan, an inspiring environmental advocate who leads efforts to protect Sumatra’s Leuser Ecosystem.
