SN Aboitiz Power sends aid to provinces hit by typhoon Ulysses

Thursday, November 26

Renewable energy company SN Aboitiz Power (SNAP) has mobilized relief operations in its host and neighboring communities affected by Typhoon Ulysses.

SNAP has set aside PhP3.5 million for the operations which it launched on November 16. As of November 20, it has delivered around PhP3.35M worth of relief goods to the provincial governments of Isabela, Nueva Vizcaya, and Ifugao; Cagayan State University in Tuguegarao City, Cagayan; and the Cagayan Red Cross.

The aid consists of rice, other food supplies, and water. SNAP is also partnering with Aboitiz Foundation, Inc. and PILMICO which are jointly donating around PhP2M worth of medicine and vitamins, food packs, and bottled water for the next wave of relief to affected communities.

Meanwhile, it clarified that it operates the Magat Hydroelectric Power Plant on the border of Isabela and Ifugao, but not Magat Dam, which is owned by the National Government through the National Irrigation Administration.

SNAP issued this clarification after several social media posts and news stories erroneously identified SNAP as owner or operator of the Magat Dam.

“SNAP does not own, manage, or operate Magat dam and its re-regulating facilities. It took over Magat hydroelectric power plant in 2007 after a successful privatization bid. Magat dam is a multi-purpose dam primarily for irrigation and flood control. As such, the ownership, management, and operations of Magat and Maris dams and all other non-power components such as reservoirs and spillways remained with the government through the National Irrigation Administration (NIA),” SNAP said in a statement.

SNAP Group is a joint venture of SN Power of Norway and AboitizPower. It owns and operates the Ambuklao and Binga hydroelectric power plants in Benguet; the Magat hydroelectric power plant on the border of Isabela and Ifugao; and the Maris hydroelectric power plant in Isabela. The ownership, management, and operations of all non-power components such as dams, reservoirs, and spillways remain with the government.

NutriAsia empowers Filipino art and creativity during pandemic

Friday, November 6

Filipino Art

As many Filipinos spend more time at home due to the COVID-19 pandemic, some creative artists have taken the opportunity to hone their skills and artistic expression—and leading Filipino food brand NutriAsia has been at the forefront of this rise in remarkable artistry with their products, campaigns, and support of resourceful local artists.

NutriAsia’s support for the arts during the pandemic started earlier this year with the viral banana catsup art of Nueva Ecija grade 12 student Vincent Paulo. Vincent proved that artists don’t need traditional mediums to create exquisite art by producing portraits of celebrities with UFC Banana Catsup, a staple of their family’s pantry.

Filipino Art

“UFC Banana Catsup is always what is in our kitchen and I don't like to stick to the conventional typical artworks that we see,” said Vincent. “I would recommend this because it is unique and easy to find in grocery stores.”

The trend continued with the soy sauce art of Cebu 19-year-old Thea Sophia Disabelle, who paints pictures with Silver Swan Soy Sauce—another pantry staple being used for creativity.

Filipino Art

“Basically, it just can be found at your kitchen. No more hassle,” said Thea, when asked about why she chose Silver Swan Soy Sauce. “I would love to recommend this kind of medium to artists. They just need soy sauce and a lot of imagination.”

Due to their exceptional creativity and resourcefulness in making art out of everyday household condiments, NutriAsia sent Vincent and Thea more products for both their art and their dinner table.

It doesn’t stop there, though—NutriAsia also opened a challenge last July for their 100% Filipino juice brand Locally, asking netizens to submit artwork depicting the drink and their love for the Philippines. Many responded to the call, posting beautiful and even unconventional art on social media. The best entries received prizes and an opportunity to work with the brand on special projects.

Buy Local

These stories of empowerment go to show that not only is NutriAsia the people’s longtime trusted partner in the kitchen, but the brand also supports them in endeavors that make life even more flavorful. With NutriAsia products, Filipinos are always sure to have the #MasarapMasaya, as well as artistic and creative moments worth living for.

How Sarah G adjusts to her new role as homemaker with the help of Hanabishi

Thursday, November 5

Sarah G Hanabishi

Popstar royalty Sarah Geronimo shared that while she is still in the adjustment period in her new role as wife and homemaker, she enjoys her married life and running her own household.

“Everything is an adjustment period. I mentioned in one interview na medyo na-expedite ang aking adulting (I mentioned in one interview that I had to expedite my adulting),” she said. “Ngayon mas hands-on ka na sa laman ng pantry mo, even ‘yung meal plan. Iisipin mo na ngayon hindi lang dapat masarap ‘yung pagkain mo, dapat healthy din (Now, you have to be hands-on with what’s in your pantry, even your meal plan. You have to keep in mind not just the taste of your food, but if it’s healthy as well).”

Sarah also shared that she is happy and grateful that Hanabishi came into her life when she was about to get married as it helped her adjust to her new home life. Her favorite Hanabishi appliances as of the moment are the stand mixer and hand mixer as she has recently tried her hand at baking and cooking.

“Noon talagang nai-intimidate ako pag sinabing baking kasi may mga measurements kailangan accurate, kailangan precise. Madali naman pala basta susundin mo lang ‘yung recipe tapos meron pa akong stand mixer from Hanabishi na talagang gamit na gamit ko sa pagbe-bake ko (Before, I was really intimidated with baking because it required precise and accurate measurements. It’s actually easy as long as you follow the recipe),” she said.

When it comes to cooking, Sarah usually prefers Filipino dishes. She has made her own kare-kare, pinakbet, bangus sisig, and tuna empanada.

Apart from her home life, Sarah is also busy with her career. Recently, she filmed a music video with Hanabishi which shows her singing and dancing to a song that highlights how the company provides products that are reliable and affordable.

Since being uploaded last October 11, the video has garnered 222,000+ views and 1200+ shares as of November 5. The hashtag HanabishiKapartner SARAH G has likewise ranked seventh on Twitter, with more than 10,000 tweets, when it was first released.

The ‘80s-inspired music video was choreographed by Sherwin Casepe, with G-force Femmes Grace and Evita dancing along with Geronimo. It showcases some of Hanabishi’s top-selling appliances and conveys how the local appliance maker is everyone’s reliable partner at home and in business.

In shooting the music video, Sarah and the production team had to observe health and safety protocols.

“We were more careful than ever. May mga safety measures na kailangan gawin, like everyone merong antigen test to ensure na COVID-free ang environment natin. Even ‘yung mga utensils na ginagamit na-sterilize and disinfected dapat. We ourselves kailangan mag-alcohol at maghugas ng kamay (There were safety measures that we need to observe to ensure that our environment is COVID-free. Even the utensils that we use were sterilized and disinfected. We ourselves need to use alcohol and wash our hands),” Geronimo revealed.

She added that shoots these days are actually easier since everybody is careful and want to go home the soonest.

Meanwhile, Cherish Ong-Chua, Vice President for Finance and Marketing of Hanabishi Appliances, expressed the company’s excitement on these new projects with Geronimo.

“We are happy to be able to continue our partnership with Sarah. We are glad Sarah can connect to our market, the young female homemakers, who are looking for appliances that they can rely on for their everyday and business needs. For the past months, we have experienced a surge in interest from those who are starting home-based businesses, and we are really happy that they have chosen our products to help them kick start their entrepreneurial endeavors,” she said.

You can watch Geronimo’s Praktikal Na Kapartner video on the official Hanabishi Facebook page. Follow all its social media accounts to stay updated on its latest products. You can also visit www.myhanabishi.com to learn more about its appliances.

Experiencing pamamanhid or pangangalay when doing simple, everyday tasks?

Wednesday, November 4

Pamamanhid or pangangalay? This may be more serious than you think according to a study.

Pamamanhid. If you’ve experienced this during your daily routine, you have probably thought nothing of it. As a matter of fact, Filipinos, as early as 35 years old, have experienced tingling, numbness, and tiredness, even with simple daily activities.

Neuropathy

A recent survey shows that 53% of those who reported these symptoms do not know that what they were experiencing could be early signs of nerve damage or Neuropathy. They unknowingly carry on with their everyday tasks without thinking about the long-term irreversible effects of this condition. Even worse, they tend to self-medicate without proper diagnosis.

Neuropathy

Neuropathy is a clinical condition where there is damage to the nerves caused by deficiency of B vitamins. It is most common among those aged 35 and up, especially those who perform repetitive movements and put stress on their hands, legs, or feet. People with diabetes are at risk to have this condition, including those with family history, alcohol and smoking consumption, and lifestyle predisposition.

According to a local consumer survey commissioned by P&G Health, individuals with Neuropathy report difficulty in doing everyday mundane tasks such as standing for a prolonged period, walking long distances, picking up items, holding things, writing, grabbing items, opening a lid, doing needlework and more.

Lack of knowledge about Neuropathy, however, has led most people to brush off nerve damage indicators if they still get to do the things they need in a day even with little to serious discomforts. Surprisingly, survey respondents understand that these symptoms might indicate a health condition, but they also admit that the only time they begin to pay attention to these is when the symptoms become annoying and make them difficult to perform or manage daily tasks.

Being mindful of your nerve health and early detection of neuropathy are very important. Under normal conditions, nerves repair naturally through nerve regeneration (Hoke, 2011). However, this is only possible if less than 50% of the fibers of the nerve tissue is damaged. Otherwise, this is called “point of no return” by experts.

Neuropathy

Thankfully, there is a way to help relieve the symptoms of Neuropathy. Clinically proven Vitamins B1+B6+B12 (Neurobion) helps relieve nerve damage and regenerate the nerves.

It is never too late to start taking care of your nerves. You can be unstoppable in doing what you love and of being of help to others.

Neuropathy

Take care of your nerves and always remember to consult your doctor. Choose Vitamins B1+B6+B12 (Neurobion) so you can have the strength to power through and carry on with the everyday acts of being a True Hero.

For the latest updates, check out the brand’s official Facebook page  and the official website.

In this vein, we take a look at a Twitter feature that everyone may know, but few understand how it works. It’s one of those features that is unique to Twitter yet is a source of constant debate---Trends.

To help better understand how trends work, we break it down for you and share 8 things you need to know about Twitter trends.

1. There's an algorithm

Trends are determined by an algorithm. By default, trends are tailored for you based on who you follow, your interests and your location. However, you can change this by selecting a specific trends location (for example, Philippines) and you will then see popular topics among people in that specific geographic location.

2. It’s all about numbers, right?

No. Trends reflect what's happening right now and aim to help you to discover the hottest emerging topics of discussion on Twitter at that moment in time. We don't count all the Tweets on a particular topic and list those with the most Tweets.

3. Isn't it all about hashtags?

No. Hashtags are indeed part of trends, but words and phrases are also measured and included. We do also group together related hashtags; for example, #MondayMotivation and #MotivationMonday may both be represented by #MondayMotivation in Trends.

4. How can I see Tweets that are part of a trend?

Click or tap on any of the trends in the list and it will take you to the search results of that trend. Here you can see all the Tweets that include the respective phrase, word or hashtag. If you wish to view Tweets about a previous trend that is no longer listed, simply use Twitter's search.

5. Can I participate in a trend?

Absolutely! Tweet the exact phrase, word or hashtag that appears in the trends list and you are now part of that trend. Note: Twitter does filter searches for quality. To better understand what types of behavior could cause your Tweets to be filtered out, read our search rules and restrictions.

6. Do trends have descriptions?

Sometimes. Below some trends you may see information such as the approximate number of Tweets or personalized context such as who in your network is Tweeting about it. When Tweet volume is shown, you will see that it’s not always the case that those with more Tweets appear above those with less Tweets. As explained in #2 above, trends are not about the total Tweets on a subject, but they reflect what's happening right now.

7. Are there any topics that are restricted from trending?

Yes. We want trends to promote healthy discussions on Twitter. This means that at times we may prevent certain content from trending, for example trends that:

  • Contain profanity or adult/graphic references.
  • Incite hate on the basis of race, ethnicity, national origin, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, religious affiliation, age, disability, or disease.
  • Violate the Twitter Rules.
8. Are there any paid trend options on Twitter?

Organic trends work as outlined above, and within the parameters of the Twitter Rules. These cannot be bought. Twitter does, however, also offer two paid options:

  • Promoted Trends – this is a 24-hour high-impact promotion popular with brands. To ensure transparency, all Promoted Trends are clearly marked as such in the trends list and Promoted Trends must follow Twitter's Promoted Trend guidelines.
  • Promoted Trend Spotlight – this is a visual advertising format that appears above the Trends list. It supports videos and GIFs up to 6 seconds, as well as static images.
