Strategies Against the Rise of Dengue Cases in the Philippines

Friday, February 23

dengue vaccine

In the wake of the looming threat posed by Dengue, particularly to children, a recent discussion hosted by the Vaccine Solidarity Movement (VSM) shed light on the urgent need for collective action and innovative approaches. With 2023 marking a global record year for Dengue cases, even a "slow" year for the Philippines ranked the nation third in Dengue incidents. Here are the insights shared during the "Dengue Dialogue" event, emphasizing the crucial role of public involvement and the potential game-changing solutions against this potentially fatal disease.

The Impact of Dengue in the Philippines

Examining the data from previous Dengue outbreaks in the Philippines, particularly the record year in 2019, reveals alarming statistics – 371,717 cases with 1,407 deaths, and half of these fatalities occurring in children aged 5 to 9. The possibility of an earlier rise in cases due to El NiƱo adds to the urgency, necessitating a proactive approach to combat the disease effectively.

A Call for Collective Involvement

Health experts stress the importance of a whole-of-nation approach in the fight against Dengue. VSM Co-Founder Amor Maclang urges active engagement from the private sector, government, and society. Examples of collaborative efforts, such as developing catchy songs to educate children about Dengue, showcase the potential impact of collective involvement. Media and journalists are also recognized for their role in raising awareness and disseminating accurate information.

A Game-Changing New Weapon

TAK-003 Vaccine Dr. Nina Gloriani, former Head of the Vaccine Expert Panel of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), introduces the TAK-003 next-generation vaccine as a powerful tool in Dengue prevention. This vaccine, licensed for use in multiple countries, can create immune responses against all four strains of the Dengue virus, potentially reducing hospitalization rates. Dr. Gloriani emphasizes the need for a well-designed communication strategy and community engagement to enhance vaccine effectiveness.

Balancing Caution and Progress

Undersecretary of Health Eric Tayag

While acknowledging the potential of new vaccines, Undersecretary of Health Eric Tayag emphasizes the importance of a meticulous evaluation process. The Philippines' success in handling COVID-19 vaccine misinformation sets a precedent for a balanced and careful approach to introducing new vaccines. The VSM's commitment to combat Dengue echoes the nation's dedication to public health, buoyed by the success in COVID-19 vaccine administration.

Rallying for a Dengue-Free Future

Encouraged by the success in COVID-19 vaccination, the Philippines aims to replicate its fervor in combatting Dengue. With VSM leading efforts to achieve 95% vaccine coverage, the nation is called to rally behind the Department of Health's objective. The urgency to act today is stressed, considering the promising solutions on the horizon and the need to safeguard the well-being of future generations.

As the nation faces the rise of Dengue cases, a comprehensive and collective approach is essential to combat this potentially fatal disease. The introduction of innovative solutions such as the TAK-003 vaccine provides hope, but it is imperative for the Philippines to act swiftly and decisively to protect the health of its children and future generations.

Maxicare Healthcare Corporation donates flu vaccines to orphanages across PH

True to its mission of serving Filipinos through quality healthcare, leading HMO provider Maxicare Healthcare Corporation reached out to orphanages and non-profit organizations across the Philippines to give free flu vaccines.

Vaccines against the common flu were donated to CRIBS Foundation, Virlanie Foundation Inc., Tahanan ng Pagmamahal, and several others, by Maxicare through its #MaxiCares program.

“Our current public health crisis underscored our commitment to provide the best possible healthcare services to Filipinos. This commitment isn’t limited to our members and stakeholders alone but likewise extends to the underprivileged and marginalized,” said Archie Rillo, Chief Marketing Officer of Maxicare Healthcare Corporation.

Aligning its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs), specifically UNSDG 3: Health and Well-being, the company started #MaxiCares to ensure that more Filipinos live healthy lives and encourage well-being for all ages by supporting relevant organizations and communities across the Philippines.

Gift of gratitude

At the height of the pandemic when mobility was limited and everyone was encouraged to stay at home, orphanages in the Philippines had a challenging time. They had to close their doors and set up bubbles to protect the children under their care. This proved to be a daunting task as most of the organizations relied on aid to sustain their services.

“The pandemic and lockdowns limited our movements in doing our face-to-face work especially in the street and community programs. We opted to stop the ongoing livelihood training, visitation, and other activities for the safety of everyone,” said Arlyne Fernandez, Virlanie Foundation Executive Director.

Virlanie Foundation, Inc. is a private, non-profit and non-sectarian organization reaching out to marginalized children and communities in the Philippines. They provide the most disadvantaged children with a caring family environment, opportunities for their healing and development through a multi-disciplinary approach, and in collaboration with all stakeholders, so they can reach their full potential and mainstream to society.

Since its creation in 1992 by the French social worker Dominique Lemay, Virlanie has helped more than 17,000 children in need of special protection through its various programs and services.

During the lockdowns, one of the main concerns of the Virlanie Foundation administrators was to ensure the health and safety of those under their care.

“The biggest challenge for us is the impact of the pandemic on the children – physical, mental, and social. We had to make adjustments on the online and modular schooling, doctors’ check-up and therapy, socialization, and extracurricular activities. We had to adapt as an organization to transition everything online and implement health and safety protocols across our programs. It was a big adjustment, but thankfully our staff and partners were very supportive,” added Arlyn.

Through Maxicare’s flu vaccine donation, Virlanie Foundation was able to continue providing healthcare to children in need.

“Maxicare’s flu vaccine donation helped Virlanie in providing prevention and care to improve the general well-being of the children especially in the time of pandemic. We hope this partnership will continue so we can help more children in need.”

Experts agree: Joyfulness is the best medicine

Thursday, December 16

When we focus on attaining overall health and wellbeing, we get to live life with joyfulness. With joy in our hearts, there is so much more we can do to lead a better quality of life physically, emotionally, mentally, socially and financially to complete our holistic health and wellbeing.

In a virtual discussion organized by FWD Life Insurance, specialists and professionals shared their thoughts on the topic: Joyfulness is the Best Medicine, and how it relates to holistic health and wellbeing.

According to acclaimed physician Dr. Ging Zamora, there is a scientific connection between joyfulness and overall health. “There is a science behind the saying that happy people live longer. Being joyful can have a positive impact on one's health, by improving the immune system, lowering the risk of cardiovascular disease, and others. This is why choosing to be in a state of joy is an important exercise we must strive to do every day,” said Dr. Ging.

Turning to physical health, fitness consultant and coach Jim Saret affirmed Dr. Ging’s explanation, quoting various research and studies that prove joyfulness can influence a person’s health habits, “Studies show that joyful people are more likely to exercise, eat healthy foods, sleep better and avoid smoking. If you have a good sense of wellbeing, it's easier to maintain good habits: exercising, eating a balanced diet and getting enough sleep.”

Roche Vandenberghe, VP and Head of Marketing of FWD Life Insurance, also pointed out that financial fitness is an important part of holistic health and wellbeing. “There is joy in knowing you have yourself and your family’s future protected with insurance. For FWD, our commitment is to provide health protection plans that go beyond illness coverage by having built-in benefits that encourage health and well-being so they can do more and celebrate living with utmost joy,” Roche said.

Dr. Shake Hocson, on the other hand, emphasized the effect of joyfulness in an individual’s mental, emotional and social state, saying that “joyfulness is the best medicine because it is the true and pure delight of your heart and soul that transcends regardless of the person and condition.”

Roche made reference to FWD’s innovative Health Bundle, where customers can choose a variable universal life (VUL) base plan from either Set for Life or Manifest. These products, she said, not only provide protection against critical illnesses but also help customers grow and protect their financial investment. KanMend, on the other hand, is the starter plan that likewise covers for critical illness and gives cash reward for confinement due to COVID-19 or COVID-19 vaccination at an affordable price making it accessible to everyone, even for gifting.

Another novel FWD product is Set for Health, which offers “zero-waste health protection”. This means every premium paid works for plan owners: they can claim up to 3x for unrelated major critical illnesses and waives all premiums on the first major critical illness diagnosis so they can focus on their recovery. If they never make a major critical illness claim by age 75, they will get back 100% of their paid premiums. This way, the owner has the freedom to keep the money as additional retirement fund or savings to maintain their state of health and well-being.

Indeed, it is important to look after ourselves as a whole – physically, emotionally, mentally, socially and financially – so we can attain joyfulness and live a fulfilled life.

How can you enhance your state of mind?

Friday, December 3

enhancing state of mind

In the current climate, a lot of people are going to be struggling with anxiety and their state of mind. Feelings of isolation and unchecked anxiety can arise due to information overload, panic over scarce resources, indefinite isolation, capsized plans, and the general uncertainty about the future. It’s the perfect cocktail for negative thoughts to spiral out of control, which is why it is important to take steps to try and stay in the right frame of mind during the pandemic.

With that being said, let’s take a look at some key pieces of advice and some activities to try during periods of stress or isolation.

View this as a time to focus on you and your home

The first thing you need to do is try to reframe your way of thinking. This is especially the case for those who are in isolation at the moment. Instead of viewing this period as being “stuck inside,” you should see it as a time to focus on yourself and your home. You can refocus your attention on the internal, rather than being focused on the external. You will develop a more positive attitude if you commit to doing one productive thing every day. Set yourself on tasks you have avoided for a long period of time. This is a unique chance for you to do things you’ve been meaning to do for ages. You will feel much better afterwards.

Consider whether there is something else going on in your body

There are a lot of different reasons why people feel stressed, anxious, depressed, and low in general. This could be because you have something else going on in your body, such as a hormone imbalance. The best thing to do here would be to have a low testosterone diagnosis. From there, you may be able to have some sort of treatment to help you feel more balanced and in a place of zen again.

Organise your home

One of the best things you can do during this period is to organise your home. This is beneficial because a chaotic house can result in a chaotic mind. Keeping your home clean, predictable, and organised can make a massive difference. Set up mental zones for daily activities so that your day is more organised. For example, don’t eat your meals in bed or on the sofa. Eat them at the kitchen table.

Repeat positive affirmations

Aside from the suggestions that we have mentioned so far, another way that you can improve your state of mind is by practising positive affirmations. This involves repeating phrases into the mirror on a daily basis that can make you feel good about yourself. For example, you can tell yourself you are amazing when looking in the mirror every morning. Yes, it may feel a little bit strange at first. However, once you repeat this again, again, and again every morning, you will start to believe it, and it is going to make you feel a lot better about yourself.

Enjoy new activities

Rather than obsessing over the news and reading conspiracy theories online about the virus, why not dedicate your time to something new? You could start a new journal, for example. Or, why not set up a canvas and do some painting? From baking to arts and crafts; you’re bound to find something that appeals to you. It could be something as simple as connecting with a loved one on FaceTime or reading a book.

Stick with your normal routine as much as you can

It is important to try and have some structure. Although you can, you shouldn’t spend all morning in bed. Instead, you need to make sure your day has a routine. Try to wake up and go to bed at the same time. You should also shower, eat meals, and adapt your exercise routine. Don’t stay in your PJ’s all day long either!

Final words on some of the different things that you can do to improve your state of mind during this difficult period of time

So there you have it: some of the steps to follow when it comes to getting into the right frame of mind and dealing with anxiety during this difficult period. We hope that the pieces of advice that have been provided above will help you to deal with anxiety and any other challenging emotions and feelings that you experience during the lockdown period.

Anlene invites Filipinos to move at any age with Anlene Gold 5X

Wednesday, December 1

Marestella Sunang

Anlene, the trusted bone expert for 30 years and one of the adult milk pioneers in the Philippines has been advocating the importance of caring for bones, joints, and muscles to enable adults to keep on moving at any age and live their best lives. To further strengthen expertise and provide superior adult nutrition, the brand recently announced the launch of their most advanced formulation, Anlene Gold 5X through an informative and interactive Movement and Nutrition Session.

The launch could not have come at a better time as just last August 2020, Anlene conducted a Movement survey with the aim of understanding how Filipinos’ physical activity has changed since the start of the pandemic. The study revealed that physical activity has decreased dramatically, leaving a large percentage of respondents with back, muscle and joint pains, and feeling more tired and lethargic. The study confirmed that the current situation has led to a more sedentary lifestyle, causing many to feel physically and mentally drained.

“The lack of physical activity is one of the leading risk factors for non-communicable diseases and increased mortality. It may also make us more susceptible to getting sick which everybody is very conscious about nowadays.” explained the Marketing Manager of Anlene, Roberta Mundo. “The survey was truly an eye opener and we wanted to share this to educate Filipinos on how important movement and proper nutrition is for overall health and wellbeing and to preserve the quality of life at any age,” she said.

The online session was also joined by Jo Ann Verdadero-Salamat, Registered Nutritionist, who explained the importance of proper nutrition along with regular movement.

“Our bodies were created to move, and this is why nutrition is important, because proper nutrition allows us to move freely, without pain or limitations. In order to enable our bodies to function well, we need all the essential nutrients, including macro and micronutrients,” Joanne explained.

“When it comes to ensuring that we get all the necessary nutrients that we need every day, milk plays an important part of our diet. We tend to think that milk is just for kids, but that is wrong. In fact, even in adulthood, our bones still grow in density, and this is why milk is still necessary. It is important to choose milk that is high in calcium because it is the major nutrient that strengthens our bones,” she continued.

While calcium is present in other types of food and also in supplements in the form of tablets, Jo Anne shared that drinking milk is the best option.

“Milk is considered as a complete food. So when you drink milk, it nourishes you and provides the nutrients your body needs. While you can also consume calcium in the form of tablets, the way our body metabolizes them will not be as efficient as compared to food,” she says. “Milk also has the highest bioavailability as compared with other types of food when it comes to calcium. For example, the estimated calcium absorbed from a glass of milk is 96% compared to only 21% in a serving of broccoli, which is a good source of calcium.”

According to Jo Anne, Anlene has always been known as the ideal milk drink for adults because of its high protein and calcium content. It does not only support the bones, but also the muscles and joints. “All three parts of our anatomy affect each other. In order for these three parts to work efficiently together, we need the right nutrition which you can get in fortified milk like Anlene,” she said.

The new Anlene Gold 5X offers expert adult nutrition for strong bones, joints, and muscles with added benefits on energy and flexibility to help and keep you moving as you age. It still provides 100% of your daily calcium needs in 2 glasses, it is high in protein with 9g per serve, has collagen and Vit C, with the complete set of B vitamins, and with a new breakthrough ingredient MFGM Activ among many other vitamins and minerals.

MFGM Activ is a revolutionary ingredient present only in Anlene Gold 5X and has been proven to help improve the physical performance of our bones, joints, and muscles when coupled with exercise. This innovative formulation has been tested and shown to increase muscle mass by 40%, improve bone mineral content, and improve flexibility by 2x, making it the perfect beverage to help support bone, muscle and joint health and recovery. Another interesting meaning behind the 5X: bone, joints, muscles, energy, and flexibility which are all aligned with Anlene's benefits.

Real movement and nutrition testimonies were then given by special guests Marilen Concepcion and Marestella Sunang, two inspiring Filipinas who prove that anyone can stay strong and mobile at any age with regular physical activity teamed with optimal nutrition.

Marilen Concepción, at 61, is a Certified Stott Pilates/Redcord Suspension Instructor and Ride Revolution Cycling Instructor. She shared all about her fitness journey and how important it is for her to move her body on a daily basis.

“I have always been active, ever since I was a child. This is something that I’ve taken with me as I grew up. After my schooling years, I continued to stay active by going to the gym,” Marilenshared.

Marilen then discovered pilates and knew that it was something she wanted to share with others. “As I got older however, I started to accept that my body was changing, and that I can’t move the way I used to. Preparing for your newborn? Here are the Always Safe protocols in MakatiMed

Tuesday, November 16

Constantino P. Manahan Delivery Room Complex MakatiMed

Preparing for your baby’s arrival can be an overwhelming task. You’ll be filled with both excitement and worry as you strive to deliver your baby as safely as possible. Top hospital in the Philippines Makati Medical Center (MakatiMed) understands how you feel, especially now that there’s a global pandemic.

That’s why the hospital has its strict “Always Safe” protocols and practices to keep you and your baby safe, comfortable, and well on your way to living a “Healthy Normal”.

“MakatiMed has state-of-the-art delivery and operating room (OR) suites that are especially designed for an expecting mom’s needs. The healthcare providers include obstetric, anesthesiology, and pediatric consultants. They are ably assisted by the residents and nurses who are all highly experienced in labor, delivery, and newborn care,” says Ramon T. Reyles, MD, OB GYN Consultant at MakatiMed.

Moms who are delivering their babies soon, are required by their doctors to undergo the Reverse Transcription-Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) swab test prior to admission. This is usually done at 38 weeks. It may be done sooner if your doctor deems that you can go into labor earlier.

You are then asked to go on quarantine after a negative swab until your admission to prevent any contact with a COVID-19 positive individual. If you haven’t been tested for COVID-19 but are already experiencing labor, you will be taken care of in the Delivery Room red zone. The red zone has an examination and observation area where women with no COVID-19 test results yet are seen. If you show symptoms or have tested positive for COVID-19, you are going to be examined, undergo labor and deliver in the Infection Control Treatment Rooms inside the complex.

All the hospital staff in the Red zone wear level 3 Personal Protective equipment (PPE) in compliance with the hospital protocol to prevent the transmission of the COVID-19 virus. Personnel in the Infection Control and Treatment Rooms wear the space-suit looking Level 4 PPE that is complete with its own air supply.

Moms with negative RT-PCR results are assigned to the green zone. This area is the other half of the Delivery Room Complex. All healthcare workers undergo a daily COVID-19 screening process and are provided with quality personal protective equipment (PPE) for their safety and safety of the patients during delivery.

Babies delivered in MakatiMed’s C.P. Manahan Complex are evaluated by the Pediatric consultants and residents from the Newborn Services. Included in the pool of Pediatric specialists are the Neonatologists who are highly dedicated in the care of premature babies in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). They are the ones who work wonders in saving the lives of very small prematures who are unfortunate to be born too soon.

“I’m sure that expecting moms have a lot of concerns and fears on their minds especially during this time of the pandemic. Be assured that in MakatiMed, the facilities, and services that we provide cover these concerns and fears. We are here to care”, says Dr. Reyles.

Investing in health and immunity as we age

PROVITAL Immuna Plus

As we age, we realize how truly important it is to invest in our health. Boosting one’s immunity has become more imperative at a time when there is an increased threat in people’s physical well-being, especially as you age. As such, older people tend to develop more underlying, long-term health problems.

Health as investment

Good health is one of the best things we can give ourselves. Mead Johnson’s PROVITAL Immuna Plus is inviting Filipinos to invest in a healthier lifestyle and help enhance their immunity. PROVITAL Immuna Plus is an adult milk brand with Yeast Beta-glucan, a key immune-boosting ingredient which is clinically proven to reduce symptoms of upper respiratory tract infection (URTI) by 64%2.

“The new normal has become a wake-up call for all of us to really value our health and a strong immune system. This is why Mead Johnson is proud to introduce PROVITAL Immuna Plus while encouraging more Filipinos to embrace a healthier lifestyle,” explained Aleli Arcilla, President & General Manager, Reckitt Philippines. “Our older population are some of the most at risk and vulnerable when there are serious health threats. The good thing is that they can do something about it by taking extra good care of themselves through proper nutrition, balanced diet and exercise.”

PROVITAL Immuna Plus has Triple Immune Protection benefits, formulated with yeast beta-glucan, scientifically proven to help activate immune response to fight against infections and colds. It also contains Selenium and Vitamin C, powerful antioxidants that help regulate immune function and strengthen defense. It is also a High Source of Vitamins A, C, E and Zinc, which help promote normal immune function. All these nutrients help activate and strengthen the body’s natural defenses so that people 50 years old and above can live their life to the fullest.

Celebrity wellness inspirations

When it comes to aging gracefully and living a healthy lifestyle, many of us look up to celebrities for inspiration. Actress Dawn Zulueta, host-news personality Suzi Entrata-Abrera, and lifestyle influencer Chuckie Dreyfus are just three of the personalities who demonstrate that looking good and feeling good requires a holistic approach. From exuding positivity to staying fit and active, they also incorporate PROVITAL Immuna Plus in their daily diet.

Dawn, Suzie, and Chucky, recently started sharing on Instagram how PROVITAL Immuna Plus helps enhance their lives.

“The fact is, as we age, our immune health also weakens. The pandemic brought on uncertain times, so it's good to be reminded to keep our immunity in check,” shared Dawn on her Instagram post. “Despite the pandemic, I know I can count on Provital Immuna Plus to help enhance my immunity so that I can start living like a pro.”

“We need to approach health and wellness in an integrated manner. Just like Dawn, Suzi and Chuckie, drinking PROVITAL Immuna Plus twice a day while eating healthy and keeping an active lifestyle will give us a strong fighting chance against life-threatening diseases,” added Arcilla.

Survey reveals Filipinos are moving less since start of pandemic

Saturday, October 30

If you have been feeling tired, heavy and lethargic lately, then you might be one of the many Filipinos whose physical activity has significantly declined over the past year. A recent survey conducted by Movement Today revealed Filipinos have been moving less since the start of the pandemic.

With lockdowns and restrictions limiting our movement, it’s natural many have lost the motivation and capacity to exercise like they used to. While this is normal, a sedentary lifestyle can have negative effects on our overall health, according to Dr. Julie Li-Yu, president of the Osteoporosis Society of the Philippines Foundation Inc. (OSPFI).

Not many realize having a sedentary lifestyle poses a great risk to our musculoskeletal health. While we may not think of it today, it can have a significant impact on our ability to move as we age, thereby affecting our overall quality of life. Therefore, it is important to remember the role that our bones, joints and muscles play in maintaining overall health & wellbeing. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), musculoskeletal conditions have been identified as one of the highest contributors of disabilities worldwide. This is why Dr. Li-Yu also encourages focusing on our muscles and joints, in addition to our bone health. “This October, as we celebrate bone and joint awareness week and world osteoporosis day, the OSPFI is one with many other health organizations all over the world in advocating for the prevention, recognition and treatment of Osteoporosis and other musculoskeletal diseases,” she says.

Conducted in August 2021, Movement Today’s survey aimed to understand how Filipinos’ physical activity has changed in the past year. The study’s respondents were among adults, aged 20-50 years old. Of 293 total respondents, 67% said they felt less active since COVID19 started, with 53% saying they are lucky enough if they can sneak in a 10 to 20-minute workout in a week, a far cry from the WHO recommended minimum time of 150 minutes of moderate physical activity per week. The results show physical activity has indeed decreased during the pandemic, with a large number of respondents experiencing back pains, muscle and joint pain, and feeling more tired and lethargic. This confirms the current situation has led to a more sedentary lifestyle, causing many to feel physically and mentally drained.

The WHO as well as the Center for Disease Control also recognize the pandemic has significantly impacted people’s lifestyles and ability to move, encouraging those stuck at home to be mindful in ensuring they stay active, as it can also significantly reduce susceptibility to COVID19 by helping reduce the risk of heart disease, high blood pressure, type2 diabetes, on top of musculoskeletal health concerns.

According to Dr. Li-Yu, when it comes to our bones, joints and muscles, health is built over time, with prevention as early as in childhood as key. “We call it a bone bank,” she explains. Our youth is spent nourishing and conditioning our bodies until we achieve our peak bone mass at about 30 to 40 years old. Thereafter, our bodies will decline, hence it is vital to “invest” in our bodies as early as possible by moving regularly as well as feeding it with the proper nutrition in order to have the best quality of life as we age.

When it comes to movement, one does not have to spend much, or at all. Dr. Li-Yu mentioned walking is an effective activity benefits the entire body. She also suggests resistance exercises if one’s aim is to build specific muscle groups. “Any type of movement is better than nothing,” she says. Even while working from home, there are many ways to keep our bodies active. In addition to physical movement, having a well-balanced, healthy diet is also important. “Everything boils down to having a well-balanced diet. If we feed our bodies with the right nutrition according to the recommended daily allowance (RDA), then having healthy bones, joints and muscles will follow through,” she says. The RDA consists of macronutrients such as protein, fats and carbohydrates as well as micronutrients, composed of vitamins and minerals like iron, calcium and Vitamin D.

Alarming data from the Food and Nutrition Research Institute (FNRI) has shown the diet of Filipinos in general does not meet the recommended daily allowance of micronutrients. This is why many food products are fortified, and also shows the value of consuming products that supplement our regular food intake.

“Anlene, the trusted bone expert and one of the pioneers of adult milk, has been advocating the importance of caring for bones, joints, and muscles for the past 30 years by providing superior adult nutrition to enable adults to move at any age and live their best lives,” says Roberta Mundo, Anlene marketing manager.

Also, the new Anlene Gold 5x offers more advanced nutrition for bones, joints, muscles, energy, and flexibility. Anlene is carefully designed by research scientists, nutritionists and product developers to contain essential nutrients that support overall health and wellbeing. To add, milk has high bioavailability which means nutrients are easily absorbed and assimilated in the body to perform its vital functions. “As we celebrate bone & joint awareness week and world osteoporosis day, we’d like to invite all Filipino adults to proactively take care of their health by building a daily habit of movement and choosing to eat healthily and enrich their diets with nutritional foods with the help of Anlene Let’s aim to be stronger and healthier today to keep moving for a better tomorrow,” Mundo concludes.

Thursday, October 28

For many of us, the past year and a half has been equal parts challenging and rewarding – with shifting priorities and new self-discoveries. The important thing is finding the drive and motivation to keep doing and achieving more, and living life well and to the fullest.

Life Talks hosted by Boy Abunda, features actress and mom of 5 Ina Raymundo who has managed a wonderful balance between taking care of herself while handling all her responsibilities at work and home; TV personality and new dad Migs Bustos whose foray into parenthood has changed his perception of life and health for the better; and beauty queen and educator Ayn Bernos who thinks it’s never too early to take one’s health seriously. Internal medicine specialist and functional medicine practitioner Eca Lorenzo, MD, FPCP rounds up the panel for the virtual catch-up to offer useful information, expert guidance, and practical advice.

LifeFood brings together these inspiring people to share their experiences and insights that’s led them to live their best life, and answer the question Paano magiging buhay na buhay ang buhay? as it launches the newest comprehensive line of condition-specific natural food supplements.

With health being a major priority for Filipinos no matter what age, LifeFood is making its line of natural food supplements available to the public. Lifefood is the food supplements brand of Synnovate Pharma Corporation, the naturals division of Unilab.

Supporting specific health needs such as maintaining cholesterol levels or hormonal balance, and helping with inflammation and pain or skin and eye health, the new brand aims to address specific conditions that may be affecting how we perform every day, and even have long-term impact on our overall wellness.

What’s great about LifeFood is that its products are derived from natural sources like plants or marine life, meaning, the key ingredients or active components are naturally-occurring. And what sets it apart is that its products use branded or trademark-protected ingredients that are backed by clinical research to prove their efficacy.

“We’ve especially curated our first line products to address the common health conditions of Filipinos,” says Abi Nepomuceno, Synnovate Director and Business Unit Head. “LifeFood has carefully chosen the most potent, most studied, and the highest quality ingredients to ensure that consumers get all the value and benefits each of these products provide.”

natural food supplements

Currently, the brand has six kinds of natural food supplements.

Curcumin can be used for managing general inflammation to help address osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis and help provide short-term pain relief for joint and back pains. LifeFood Curcumin features Meriva that makes it 29x more bioavailable.

Sytrinol helps lower total cholesterol without the toxic side effects of commonly prescribed cholesterol-lowering drugs.

Astaxanthin is one of nature’s most powerful antioxidants that can reduce the size of wrinkles and improve skin micro texture. It contains strong anti-aging molecules that are 500 times stronger than Vitamin E and 6,000 times stronger than Vitamin C. LifeFood Astaxanthin has the highest dosage at 12mg, studied to be the most effective as a support in preventing skin aging.

Injuv contains a clinically-proven low molecular weight hyaluronic acid that makes it easily absorbed for younger-looking, well-moisturized skin to provide better skin hydration and elasticity. It can also be taken by those who need to hydrate joints and other connective tissues.

Tonalin CLA is a great choice for those who are looking for a natural weight management supplement. Combined with a balanced diet and exercise, it can help reduce up to 9% of body fat and increase the body’s total lean muscle mass.

A go-to women's health supplement, Evening Primrose Oil is a natural source of omega-6 that aids in hormonal balance. It can improve skin health, naturally address PMS symptoms, address breast pain, and help with menopause.

These natural supplements are also standardized and undergo stringent product testing following pharma standards, so consumers are assured that they are taking supplements that are not only safe, but also effective in addressing the specific concerns that they have.

A good life is a full and healthy one, and LifeFood aims to help Filipinos achieve that. As Nepomuceno says, “Sana matulungan namin sila na mas maging buhay na buhay ang kanilang buhay.”
