My Sweet Indulgence

Tuesday, September 10, 2013

My husband always bring me Godiva Chocolates whenever he comes home from a business trip abroad. Even though he's been out of the country three to four times a year, I still  suffer from separation anxiety. I look forward to the day he'll arrive.. and the sweet treat he has for me.

Adidas D Rose Tour Manila

Sunday, September 08, 2013

It was my sister who told me a few days ago that Adidas is giving away free tickets to the D Rose 3 on 3 Grand Finals here in Manila.

Yesterday, online registration at TicketNet started at one in the afternoon. It seemed everybody got online as soon as the clock struck one and getting into the website was as impossible as having snow here in the Philippines. I almost gave up. But my sister kept trying until she successfully registered.

There are 1,500 Upper Box Tickets and 2,500 General Admissions Tickets to be distributed starting September 8 until the 11th. The e-mail confirmation did not indicate the seats reserved to us so we decided to go to Araneta as early as possible.

I'm not a morning person and it's very unusual for me to wake up early on a Sunday. But I must queue early to make sure I get an Upper Box seat. We arrived at the Smart Araneta Coliseum around 7:30. There are already a few people waiting. We decided to eat breakfast at the nearby Krispy Kreme. When we returned to Green Gate ticketing office, we're 20th on the queue.

Lucky us, we got the Upper Box seats.

We originally queued at the Green Gate as indicated in the email. But then they decided to divide the queue according to surnames. The names of the people who registered online are listed alphabetically.

Kudos to Adidas. Very organized.

The Wedding

Monday, September 02, 2013

  • Is it possible, I wonder, for a man to truly change? Or do character and habit form the immovable boundaries of our lives?
  • In the course of my marriage, I've been selfish and stubborn and as ignorant as a goldfish, and it pains me to realize this about myself.
  • Looking back, I believe that if I've done one thing right, it has been to love my wife throughout our years together. While this may strike some as a feat not worth mentioning, you should know that there was a time when I was certain that my wife didn't feel the same way about me.
  • When two people live together, the stress flows both ways. This, I've come to believe, is both the blessing and the curse of marriage. It's a blessing because there's an outlet for the everyday strains of life; it's a curse because the outlet is someone you care deeply about.
  • There were days when we avoided eye contact at the breakfast table, but still I never doubted us.
  • It would be dishonest to say that I haven't wondered what would have happened if I married someone else, but in all the years we spent together, I never once regretted the fact that I had chosen her.
  • ...and her face registered a disappointment that I had learned to recognize over the years, if not fully understand.
  • Sitting beside her on the couch, I knew I loved her then as much as I did the day we were married. But in looking at her, noticing perhaps for the first time the distracted way she glanced off to the side and the unmistakably sad tilt of her head -- I suddenly realized that I wasn't quite sure whether she still loved me.
  • At first, I wanted to believe that Jane was simply reacting emotionally and that I was reading far more into the incident than it deserved. Yet the more I thought about it, the more I sensed not only her displeasure in an absentminded spouse, but the traces of an older melancholy -- as if my lapse were simply the final blow in a long, long series of careless missteps.
  • I sometimes think we're an unlikely pair to have spent a life together. We're different in almost every way, ant though opposites can and do attract, I've always felt that I made the better choice on our wedding day.
  • I couldn't deny that we're drifting apart, and the more I thought about it, the more I noticed how wide the gap between us had become.
  • It was as if we'd become strangers again. Only habit seemed to be keeping us together.
  • What are we, after all, without our memories, without our dreams?
  • Every time I read to her, it was like I was courting her, because sometimes, just sometimes, she would fall in love with me again, just like she had a long time ago. And that's the most wonderful feeling in the world. How many people are given that chance? To have someone you love fall in love with you over and over?
  • I understand women... The point is that there's no man ever alive who can honestly say those words and mean them. It's just isn't possible, so there's no use trying. But that doesn't mean you can't love them anyway. And it doesn't mean that you should ever stop doing your best to let them know how important they are to you.
  • I came to the conclusion that unrealized hopes, even small ones, were always wrenching.
  • Marriage is about compromise; it's about doing something for the other person, even when you don't want to.
  • It's funny, but have you ever noticed that the more special something is, the more people seem to take it for granted? It's like they think it won't ever change.
  • All it ever needed was a little attention, and it would never have ended up like this in the first place.

Sungha Jung's OFFICIAL Facebook Fan Page

Friday, August 30, 2013

I became a fan of Sungha Jung when I saw his videos in YouTube when he was still very young. I was impressed by his fingerstyle guitar skill. He has such an amazing talent even as a kid and he keeps getting better. Born September 2, 1996, Sungha Jung is so young and yet so famous. You'd be surprised at the number of subscribers his YouTube channel has.

I have been following him in Facebook and it was only recently that I discovered I was following a FAKE account. It's sad that some people pretend to be somebody else.

This is the OFFICIAL Facebook Page of Sungha Jung. Please LIKE his page and discontinue following the fake account. Clicking the photos above and the like link  will redirect you to his FaceBook Page.

Made In Candy

Sunday, August 25, 2013

I passed by this store and saw these people gathered at the display window and I can't help but squeeze myself to be able to get to the front and see what the fuss is all about.

I got excited with what I saw. Candies being made right before my eyes :D

Even the cutting of candies into small pieces were made by hand.

I went inside the store and saw these jars of colorful assorted candies.

I bought a "Jar of Everything"  because I want to taste all the flavors available. This 70g jar costs P150.

This is the seal of the jar.

I opened the jar and I felt like a child again.

These are some of the candy designs I like.

Hubby found this. SWEET.

I woke up to a cold and rainy Sunday. Inasmuch as I want to stay in bed all day and just be lazy, the refrigerator is almost empty. I need to go to the grocery. On the way home, I bought a bowl of Beef Wanton Noodles from Chowking to keep me warm and a large Caramel with Brown Sugar Jelly from infiniTEA.

Mango-ong!

Monday, August 12, 2013

This is green mango with sweet and spicy bagoong. Reminds me of the mango on stick sold by manong vendor outside the school my parents forbade me to buy because I might have hepatitis but I disobeyed them and bought a few times. My reason -- it's so yummy and I have a hepatitis vaccine ;P

Beautiful Korea

Thursday, August 08, 2013

When Korean Drama 한국드라마 started airing in the Philippines, I was one of the many viewers who got hooked. My favorites among the numerous series being shown here are All About Eve 이브의 모든것 portrayed by Chae Rim and Kim So-Yeon, My Name is Kim Sam Soon 내 이름은 김삼순 starring Kim Sun-Ah, Jewel in the Palace (Dae Jang Geum) 대장금 portrayed by Lee Young Ae and Princess Hours starring Yoon Eun-hye, Ju Ji-hoon, Kim Jeong-hoon and Song Ji-hyo.

The stories of these drama series are very interesting. But aside from the good plotlines, the beautiful places in Korea shown in the series are delightful to the eye.

My husband went on a business trip to Korea and he was able to squeeze into his busy schedule touring around Seoul. Equipped with only a camera phone, he captured these pictures.

From Gloom to Gratitude: How an iPad Mini Surprise Lifted My Spirits

Friday, July 19, 2013

There are days when the weather outside mirrors how you feel inside. Today was one of those days for me. The sky was grey, the air was damp, and my heart felt heavier than usual. Yesterday marked my mom’s third death anniversary, and while time has passed, the ache of missing her hasn’t faded.

I miss her every single day. The memories come flooding back, especially around this time of year. To distract myself and maybe lift my mood, I decided to log in to my Facebook account. I didn’t expect anything extraordinary—just a few posts, maybe some funny memes.

A Message That Made Me Smile

And then I saw it.

“Congratulations to Ms. Roselle Toledo! You're the lucky cardholder who will receive an iPad Mini as a token for sharing your Smile story with us. We hope this little gift makes you smile.”

In that moment, my gloomy mood shifted. The sadness that had been weighing on me all morning gave way to a spark of joy. I had actually won an iPad Mini!

My First Citibank Promo Win

I’ve been a Citibank Credit Card holder since 2000. Over the years, I’ve politely declined offers from other credit card companies because I’ve never felt the need for another card. This was the first time I had ever joined a Citibank promo, and to my surprise, I won.

Honestly, I didn’t expect to win. I had been content with the Citibank Reward Points I’d accumulated over the years, which had already allowed my husband and me to purchase new shoes. Winning the iPad Mini felt like an unexpected bonus—a lovely twist in my otherwise melancholic day.

Why This Win Meant More Than Just a Prize

Here’s the part that truly touched me: most of the Reward Points I had earned came from paying for my mom’s chemotherapy treatments. That in itself was a bittersweet reminder. And then, the announcement that I had won came exactly one day after my mom’s death anniversary.

It felt like a gentle sign—a little nudge from above—reminding me that there’s always a reason to smile, even in moments of grief. Almost as if my mom was telling me, “Don’t be sad. I’m still looking out for you.”

Finding Joy in Life’s Little Surprises

Life has a way of surprising us when we least expect it. That day, an email and a Facebook notification transformed my sadness into gladness. It wasn’t just about the iPad Mini—it was about the reminder that joy can find its way into our lives even in the most unexpected ways.

Whether it’s through a thoughtful gift, a random act of kindness, or a stroke of good luck, these small moments of happiness are worth celebrating. They’re reminders to keep moving forward, to keep smiling, and to keep our hearts open to the good that’s still to come.

That day, Citibank gave me more than a prize—they gave me a reason to smile again.

The Chicken Rice Shop

Tuesday, July 16, 2013

I saw The Chicken Rice Shop in Vivo City when I was in Singapore last February. With so many food to try and so little space available in my stomach, I decided to pass the chance. Lucky me, Pancake House Group brought The Chicken Rice Shop here in Manila.

Nyonya Pai Tee

I have already dined at The Chicken Rice Shop in Sta Lucia East Grandmall a few days after arriving from my vacation. Nyonya Pai Tee is the appetizer that tickled my taste buds. This appetizer is similar to Manila's fried vegetable lumpia.  And because I love lumpia so much, Nyonya Pai Tee is an instant favorite.

Curry Laksa

Laksa is one dish that I was so curious to try but afraid that I might not like the taste. I've been seeing a lot about Laksa on the Asian Food Channel and how the people eating it seem to enjoy the food.  When I saw a friend's Curry Laksa post on instagram, I told myself I must taste this the soonest time possible. The Chicken Rice Shop's Curry Laksa costs only P158 for a generous serving.

I'm curious no more. Eating Laksa is now off my bucket list. I also realized that there is nothing extraordinary about the taste. It's something I can eat and enjoy. But I do wish I'll be able to taste laksa in Singapore or Malaysia.

Kuching 3 Layer Tea

This should look like a 3 layer tea but I got excited I stirred it before realizing I need to take a snapshot. This drink was recommended by the attendant the first time I dined at The Chicken Rice Shop. If you are into milk teas, you'll definitely love the Kuching 3 Layer Tea.

Bench Body Scrub

Thursday, July 11, 2013

In order to meet the minimum purchase required to avail of the Lee Min Ho concert tickets,  I grabbed a few Bench products that I'm so curious to try. One that caught my fancy is the Bench Organics African Shea Butter and Extra Virgin Olive Oil Body Scrub.

It was only last night that I used the body scrub. I love its delicate yummy smell and my skin feels so velvety soft after using the body scrub. I need not use a lotion after the bath. I forgot how much this body scrub costs but I remember it's very affordable (less than P200) and this is proudly Philippine made.

How My Sister’s Birthday Wish Came True: Seeing Lee Min Ho Live in Concert

Lee Min Ho World Tour Tickets

There are birthdays, and then there are once-in-a-lifetime birthdays—the kind where fate, timing, and a little bit of luck align to make magic happen. For my sister, her special day in 2013 turned into one she’ll never forget, all thanks to a certain tall, dashing Korean superstar: Lee Min Ho.

When she found out about the Lee Min Ho World Tour 2013 a month before the event, her excitement was off the charts. As fate would have it, the concert date fell exactly on her birthday. If you’re a K-drama fan, you’ll understand why this was a huge deal—this wasn’t just any celebrity. This was the man who brought to life unforgettable characters like Gu Jun Pyo in Boys Over Flowers and Kim Tan in The Heirs.

The Struggle to Get a Ticket

From the moment she saw the announcement, my sister began daydreaming about spending her birthday in the same room as her ultimate K-drama crush. The only problem? Concert tickets weren’t exactly in my budget at the time. As much as I wanted to make it happen for her, the reality was that it seemed out of reach.

But the thing about true fans is that they never give up without a fight. As the big day drew closer, more and more free ticket promos started popping up online. These weren’t just random contests—they were like little sparks of hope for fans who couldn’t afford to splurge on VIP seats. My sister and I joined as many as we could, refreshing pages, sending entries, and crossing our fingers until they cramped.

A K-Drama Plot Twist from Bench

With only a few days left before the concert, it felt like we had run out of chances. But then, like a scene from a K-drama plot twist, Bench announced a last-minute promo: for a minimum purchase, you’d get a free ticket to Lee Min Ho’s concert.

I didn’t even give it a second thought. The very next day, we made our way to Bench SM Megamall. I can still remember the excitement on my sister’s face as we browsed the store, carefully picking out items to meet the purchase requirement. This wasn’t just shopping—it was securing a memory that would last forever.

Birthday Wish Granted

When the cashier handed over the concert ticket, I swear my sister’s eyes sparkled brighter than any K-drama romantic scene. Her birthday wish had come true—not through luck in a raffle, but through determination, timing, and a dash of sisterly love.

The night of the concert was pure magic. She got to see Lee Min Ho in person—his charming smile, his heartfelt words to fans, and that unforgettable stage presence. I could tell she was savoring every second, from the opening performance to the final goodbye wave.

More Than Just a Concert

Looking back, I realize that moments like these aren’t just about the celebrities we admire. They’re about the memories we create with the people we love. That day, it wasn’t just my sister’s birthday—it was a celebration of dreams, dedication, and the joy of giving.

And if there’s one thing I learned, it’s this: when it comes to making someone’s special day truly extraordinary, sometimes you don’t need a miracle—you just need to be ready when the right opportunity comes along.

That year, Lee Min Ho gave my sister the gift of a lifetime. But for me, the real gift was seeing her happiest smile.

Dinner at Tender Bob's

Tuesday, July 02, 2013

Me and my sister were at Bench SM Megamall this afternoon to avail of the free Lee Min Ho World Tour 2013 tickets. We had a very late dinner at one of my favorite restaurants in Shangri-la. We both ordered my favorite porkchops.

It was almost closing time and the last call for order has been made. I asked if they could still accommodate an order of burger for takeout. They were so nice. The kitchen was almost cleaned up yet they willingly prepared my additional order.

It's okay for me if they refuse but they really made me happy that they did.
