A Stay Home Date with Mom: SM curates delivery services in Viber in time for Mom’s Day

Thursday, May 7

SM Supermalls encourages everyone to celebrate Mother’s Day at home in line with the implementation of the enhanced community quarantine. To further encourage the public to stay inside their homes, 30 SM malls in Metro Manila and nearby areas in Bulacan and Rizal are curating information on the delivery services of the restaurants present in their establishments in the Viber group Take Out and Delivery at SM.

Launched last April 13, the Take Out and Delivery at SM Viber initiative is a food guide that allows customers to explore the available options for delivery in time for special celebrations like Mother’s Day, or just for the satisfaction of regular food cravings. With the curation of the food guide, customers could now also easily identify the variety of food options available for delivery in their area. As of writing, the group has 80,000 members. The Take Out and Delivery at SM curators include in their message the following information: restaurant name, location, available time of service and food type.

Curators also include in their message the restaurants’ contact details since customers are required to transact directly with the establishments. Some of the restaurants in the group are also partners of some food delivery apps, such Grab Food, Lala Food and Food Panda.

SM Supermalls reminds those who will be engaging in home deliveries to continue exercising social distancing and to wear a face mask. The customers are also encouraged to wash their hands after every transaction.

Tuesday, May 28

Joshua Garcia

Sa barkadahan nyo, sino ang sobrang clingy?

In the new Jollibee ad featuring young actor Joshua Garcia, the script gets flipped as his friends show their acting chops and go all-out, just like the todo toppings, todo sarap Cheesy Classic Jolly Hotdog!

The funny new ad is a sequel of sorts to Joshua’s equally hilarious Cheesy Classic Jolly Hotdog commercial, in which he shows his impressive dramatic acting chops as a friend who thought his barkada didn’t get him a Jolly Hotdog.

“Ang galing ng todo-drama skills ng mga friends ko dito!” said Joshua of his co-stars in the latest commercial. “I can say na todo-enjoy talaga ang pag-shoot nitong TVC na ‘to, just like how I enjoy the todo toppings, todo sarap Cheesy Classic Jolly Hotdog!”

“We thought Joshua’s love for Jolly Hotdog and his comedic timing for this new ad was perfect,” Jollibee Marketing Director for Core Category Mari Aldecoa said. “He made the big punchline todo-funny!”

Just like his todo friends, the Cheesy Classic Jolly Hotdog is packed with todo toppings, giving it a todo sarap that you’ll never get enough of. That’s because it’s got that juicy, extra-meaty sausage, abundantly topped with a special dressing and sprinkled with grated cheese!

The best part? You can get it for dine-in, take-out, delivery, and drive-thru in all Jollibee stores nationwide for only PHP 50.00 (solo)! Empoy and Angel Locsin Visit Mang Inasal branches during the Successful National Halo-Halo Sarap Day

Tuesday, April 2

Mang Inasal National Halo-Halo Sarap Day

The third National Halo-Halo Sarap Day (NHHSD) of Mang Inasal was successfully celebrated with its customers who got to enjoy the creamiest Pinoy halo-halo at P20 off in all Mang Inasal stores nationwide.

Delighting customers with their surprise store visits were the “General’s Daughter” star Angel Locsin who went to the Mang Inasal Circuit Makati store and comedian Empoy Marquez who went to SM Fairview and SM Novaliches stores during the NHHSD.

Mang Inasal National Halo-Halo Sarap Day

Starring in the latest Mang Inasal Pinoy Halo-Halo TV commercial aired on the same day as the NHHSD, Angel told customers at the Circuit store that she is really a member of “Samahang Simot,” or those diners who really finish their halo-halo up to the last drop.

“Narito po kami ngayon ng Mang Inasal para magpasalamat sa inyong walang sawang pagsuporta sa Pinoy Halo-Halo. Alam naman po ninyo na talagang paborito ko ang Pinoy Halo-Halo dahil ito ang da best sa creaminess. Espesyal ang gatas nito dahil ito ay ginawa lang para sa Mang Inasal (We are here today to thank you for your endless support for Pinoy Halo-Halo. You know that it is really my favorite because it is the creamiest. It is made from special milk made exclusively for Mang Inasal),” she said.

One of the customers who came to celebrate was a balikbayan from Malaysia, Susan Casteral, who came with her son. She always eats at Mang Inasal every time she goes back to the Philippines. She said that she loves eating the Mang Inasal Pinoy Halo-Halo because it has the right amount of sweetness and the creaminess that stands out.

Josephine Quiatchon, who came with her friend, is a senior citizen who loves Mang Inasal Pinoy Halo-Halo. She finds it really delicious because it has the creamiest milk and generous serving of ingredients.

“Kahit senior na at sipunin na, tuwing summer kumakain talaga ako lagi ng halo-halo (Even if I’m already a senior citizen and would always have colds, I still make it a point to eat halo-halo during summer),” she jovially shared.

Katrina Nagidao, who came with her daughter, even won a prize in one of the NHHSD raffle draws at the Mang Inasal-SM Novaliches store. She said that she and her daughter always eat at Mang Inasal since her daughter loves its Chicken Inasal, while she craves for its creamiest Pinoy Halo-Halo.

Mang Inasal Brand Manager Schubert Quilinquin said that the National Halo-Halo Sarap Day was celebrated in over 500 stores nationwide as Mang Inasal’s way of showing its appreciation to its customers who contributed to making its Pinoy Halo-Halo a well-loved dessert or merienda(snack).

“We thank everyone who joined us in celebrating the National Halo-Halo Sarap Day this year. We hope to celebrate with all of you again next year, as we prepare more surprises for you at our stores,” he said.

Satisfy Your Craving with the Creamiest Halo-Halo in New Mang Inasal TVC

Creamiest Halo-Halo in New Mang Inasal TVC

There's no denying that we can already feel the summer heat. And for Filipinos, we can't help but give in to our craving for the creamiest halo-halo.

Mang Inasal, the leading Pinoy quick service restaurant chain that serves the country’s No.1 Chicken Inasal, makes the best-tasting and value-for-money Pinoy food favorites.

People can expect from it no less than crave-inducing menu offerings such as the Mang Inasal Pinoy Halo-Halo that is showcased in its latest television commercial (TVC). The TVC stars Mang Inasal brand ambassador and primetime leading lady Angel Locsin.

The TVC begins with Angel being interrogated by two men. Seemingly, the men had been ‘forcing’ her to answer their question. Upon revealing that she’s been holding a bowl of Mang Inasal Pinoy Halo-Halo in her hands, she finally ‘confesses’ that: “Ang nagpapasarap sa halo-halo ay ang creamy, sweet gatas (What makes halo-halo delicious is its creamy, sweet milk).”

She is then shown savoring the product that stands out for its deliciously creamy milk that helps bring out the goodness of the Pinoy Halo-Halo’s ingredients. The TVC then ends with Angel and her interrogators enjoying the Mang Inasal Pinoy Halo-Halo. Her interrogators even declare that when it comes to creaminess, Mang Inasal Pinoy Halo-Halo is “Da best (The best)!”

To loyal Mang Inasal customers, the TVC evokes memories of the great-tasting treat and makes them come back for more. To new customers, it serves as an invitation to try this all-time Pinoy favorite from the store that serves the dessert’s creamiest version.

According to Mang Inasal Philippines Marketing Director Mike Dumaual, to achieve its truly satisfying creaminess, Mang Inasal Pinoy Halo-Halo uses milk that was exclusively developed for it and is not available commercially in supermarkets.

“The special, creamier milk makes Mang Inasal Pinoy Halo-Halo ‘Da Best sa creaminess’ and really delicious and satisfying. You must try it to believe it,” Dumaual said.

The TVC came out on the same day as the National Halo-Halo Sarap Day, which was celebrated in Mang Inasal stores nationwide with P20 off on Pinoy Halo-Halo for the whole day of March 17 only, both for dine in and take out orders.

Indeed, Mang Inasal Pinoy Halo-Halo really stands out because of its creamiest milk. Go to the nearest Mang Inasal store to enjoy this great-tasting dessert for only P55 for small, P75 for regular serving, and P50 as add-on to any Mang Inasal meal.

The Truth About Motivation: How to Hack Your Brain and Reach Your Fitness Goals

Truth About Motivation

Let’s be honest: many of us set the same New Year’s resolutions year after year. Actually, almost half of Americans tried to lose weight over the past 12 months. Striving to lose weight or incorporate more physical activity into your weekly schedule is a commendable starting point because it means you aim to be healthier.

Goal setting is easy, but actually achieving those objectives may prove more difficult. If you want to hit your weight loss target or fitness goal, motivation is key. It is a necessary element for a new behavior to occur.

Why Motivation Matters in Weight Loss and Fitness

So, how can you stick to your resolutions and finally cross them off your list? How do you stay motivated to reach your fitness goals?

Well, to start, you’ll need to believe in yourself and imagine what success will look like.

Belief can involve two things:

  1. What you believe about yourself
  2. What you believe you are capable of
Belief is critical for success for a very powerful reason: it breeds confidence.

Take weight loss, for example. Studies have consistently found that weight loss is more likely to be achieved and maintained if the person has a strong belief that they can accomplish it.

This confidence in one’s ability to achieve a specific goal is termed self-efficacy, and it is crucial to change the mindset with which we approach a goal. It determines how much effort will be used and how long it will be sustained in the face of obstacles.

According to psychologist Albert Bandura, expectations of self-efficacy are derived from four principal sources of information:

1. Performance accomplishments
2. Secondhand experience
3. Verbal persuasion
4. Physiological states

The Truth About Motivation and Willpower

The truth is: willpower is limited and self-motivation is difficult. Only about 8% of people who have made a New Year’s resolution achieve it. Plus, approximately 80% of resolutions fail by the second week of February. So why is it so hard to keep motivated?

One of the main reasons is that change entails stress. Stress can make you feel frustrated, fatigued or anxious. Those feelings can become the fuel of self-sabotage, causing you to lose motivation.

Lack of motivation may also arise from setting unrealistic goals. The main reasons for doing so are optimism and uncertainty. You are sure you are going to make it this time, even though you are not really sure what a realistic goal is.

The Consequences of Unrealistic Goals

Failing to reach your weight loss or fitness goals may result in negative emotions like disappointment or frustration.

This, in turn, might lead to shame and self-defeating thoughts, such as:

  • I can’t do this.
  • Exercise is too hard or boring.
  • My weight loss goal is overwhelming, why even try?
Negative self-talk will make it harder for you to visualize success. But keep in mind that it’s a process. Losing weight and being physically active takes patience and time. This is where small wins become so important.

Why Small Wins Matter: Your Motivational Fuel

Small wins are milestones you set to help you reach your specific goal. They serve as evidence that success can be achieved and, therefore, they can boost your confidence and change your beliefs on your own abilities to accomplish a goal.

For example, if your purpose is to lose 40 pounds, you might want to break that complex goal into more manageable pieces to handle: say, losing one pound a week. Each week you lose a pound is a small win.

Small wins are both motivating and encouraging. They can help reduce stress about an overwhelming goal, and in turn, give you a daily good habits action plan to follow. You can later leverage that competence toward subsequent, larger successes.

The Science of Small Wins

Behavior scientists have observed that encouraging people to set challenging goals is more likely to stimulate initial readiness to change. However, when faced with obstacles or challenges, reducing barriers to achieving smaller goals is a good strategy to keep motivation from decaying.

The reason behind this has to do with chemical processes that occur in our body. Accomplishments, even small ones, activate the reward circuitry in our brains. This means the dopamine neurotransmitter is released, filling us with energy, happiness, and pride.

Your brain will like the feeling so much, you will feel compelled to repeat the healthy action that triggered it. Your brain will be prone to turning it into a habit. This will make it easier for you to keep choosing a healthy meal over junk food or striving to hit the 1k in the treadmill.

How to Use Small Wins to Boost Motivation and Achieve Your Fitness Goals

These practical steps to achieve small wins will help you to get started:

1. Chose a goal that is meaningful to you

Don’t focus on goals that are trendy or that worked for someone else. You are a unique individual and your goals should reflect that. Set a goal that makes you want to work for it.

2. Make sure that your goals are SMART

Your weight loss or fitness goal should be specific, measurable, attainable, results-oriented and time-bound.

For example, if you haven’t done exercise in a while and want to get back on track, a SMART goal could be: I will hit the gym two days a week for a month and burn at least 1,000 calories each day.

3. Surround yourself with social support

Good habits are tough to establish, so having a community around you for support, guidance, and encouragement can be critical.

At Herbalife Nutrition, our nutrition clubs are just that: small businesses where like-minded people come together to improve their health, fitness, and wellbeing all while benefitting from a supportive community who provide encouragement and guidance.

4. Notice your small wins and celebrate them

Take the time to appreciate your small wins! Don’t limit your happiness by thinking they are not worth the excitement. If you managed to lose the pound you intended this week, share it with a friend who cares and enjoy!

There’s no better time to begin pursuing your goals than today. And if you follow the steps above, I’m confident you’ll be well on your way to a happier and healthier year.

Bonifacio High Street's Pop-Up Street Guide

Tuesday, March 19

Pop-Up Street

If food park is for foodies, Pop-Up Street is for Shopaholics.

Pop-Up Street’s concept is simple. First, it aims to serve as an incubator for startups and online stores for new and young entrepreneurs to hone their brand and test the saleability of their products before they decide to set up an establishment in BGC. The city is the perfect location to test marketability because it is populated daily by close to a million residents, office workers, and visitors.

Apart from that, it provides an interim space for established brands to hold short-term campaigns or introduce new or seasonal products.

“In a sense, Pop-Up Street also brings people together as a community of passionate entrepreneurs and excited shoppers who share the same appreciation for this kind of lifestyle. It has the added value of being outdoors, which gives off that enjoying-a-park vibe. This is certainly a good option to spend free time or weekends at,” said Francesca Padilla, BGC’s Marketing & Community Relations Officer.

Pop-Up Street

Among the first locators currently at Pop-Up Street is Ethan Cash Sneaker Lounge, a team of experts on shoe restoration who promise to remove stains, straighten creases, and do everything to make kicks look new again.

Pop-Up Street

Since shoppers today are into social enterprises or companies that give back to the community, Pop-Up Street allotted space for AKABA, a fair-trade business that makes quality handwoven bags from Filipino indigenous textiles. AKABA’s customers carry stylish knapsacks or tote bags while giving back to the artisan Filipinos who work hard in production.

Pop-Up Street

Apart from these retail brands, food establishments have also set up shop at Pop-Up Street. XOXO Ice Cream, which originated in Bali, serves handcrafted ice cream in unique flavors, while Black Wagyu is cooking imported yet affordable mouthwatering Japanese beef cubes.

Pop-Up Street

“We are inviting everyone to come check out Pop-Up Street and have a truly novel shopping experience only here in Bonifacio Global City. It’s a place to find new products to love and, of course, to support entrepreneurship,” Padilla said.

As brands lease for short periods of time only, there’s always something new to offer for shoppers. Pop-Up Street is located along Bonifacio High Street near 7th Avenue.

Vicks’ #TouchOfCare Campaign Creates Awareness for HIV-infected Children

Monday, March 11

#Touchofcare

Vicks once again releases another true-to-life story on the transformative power of care, to celebrate the extraordinary stories of the people who have lived it by their actions. This time, it centers on a child infected with HIV and a woman whose love and care paved way for the transformation of both their lives. This is a powerful story that aims to challenge current beliefs, social norms, definitions, and stereotypes; a bold move aimed to address issues on discrimination.

Vicks, a brand synonymous with Generations of Care globally, continues its mission on transforming people’s lives with the power of care with the belief that it is Care that makes a family, and not the other way around. The brand’s #TouchOfCare campaign brings to the surface societal taboos and sheds light on them to inspire change in perspectives and preconceived biases. It reveals how anybody with a loving touch of care has the capability to transform another person’s life.

“The purpose of the Vicks brand is rooted in care. With our #TouchOfCare campaign, we aim to share stories where people have transformed lives of others through their extraordinary acts of care. The story of “Agnes” was one such story which just needed to be told. We hope the campaign inspires more people to transform lives and transcend social norms, definitions and stereotypes through their own acts of care.”

- Akhilesh Negi, P&G Brand Director Healthcare APAC

The 4-minute video heroes a child who was born with HIV infection. When his mom died from the disease, the 4-month old was handed by his immediate family to Agnes, his mom’s friend. Captured in the story is how Agnes later on found out about the child’s condition, and instead of turning away from the unexpectedly difficult situation, she committed to raise him and showered him with love and care. It was the start of a beautiful life transformation for the two; revealing how Agnes fought for child’s life against all ridicule and discrimination from the people around them. Today, with Agnes’ unfaltering love and care, the child is 4 years old and his HIV infection lays dormant in his body.

“With the Touch of Care campaign, we are passionate about telling powerful stories of love. The story of Agnes just grabbed us from the start and we felt this moving tale of mother and son, amidst their challenges, was something we want to share with the world. This is the power of care that Vicks celebrates, for when you choose it, you have a hand in transforming another person’s life and make it better.”

- Lester Estrada, P&G Philippines Marketing Director

Vicks believes that sharing Agnes’ story will create a ripple effect that inspires people to look past the current beliefs, social norms, definitions, and stereotypes placed on people, and ultimately creates a transformative power of care. The brand also wants to create societal awareness for children born with HIV in order to change society’s beliefs and perspectives towards them. Vicks is committed to amplifying inspiring stories that show the transformation of human lives when people give a touch of care.

“While brands have the power to lead conversations and influence culture, it is ordinary people in their everyday lives who actually inspire these brands to reflect relevant realities in our advertising. This extraordinary ability of a person to transcend every imaginable boundary to feel and care for another life, another human being, continues to be the inspiration for Vicks’ "Touch of Care" campaign across multiple geographies. To celebrate the lives, amplify the stories and support our everyday heroines and heroes is a privilege for our brand.”

- Ajay Vikram, Publicis Singapore Chief Creative Officer, Global Clients

Vicks has partnered with Project Red Ribbon (a partner of Department of Health - National AIDS/STI Prevention and Control Program and is associated with the World Health Organization and UNAIDS). This partnership aims to give the same love and care seen in the film to the children under the “Duyan Project”. “Duyan”, a Filipino noun which means “cradle”, aims to provide care and support to children with HIV in the Philippines. Through the said program, they will be given care, love and attention, to improve their quality of life until they are once again healthy and can go back to school.

Workbank built on the Filipino virtue of malasakit

Wednesday, December 12

Workbank, the newest player in the job matching industry, has set its sights on the growing Filipino workforce by launching a platform that provides an enjoyable job search experience with exclusive perks and free trainings to help talents land jobs quicker.

The employment solutions firm notes that it was out of malasakit, the unique Filipino virtue that can be best described as compassion, that drove them to create the innovative portal. In a speaking engagement at the People Management Association of the Philippines (PMAP) General Assembly, Reggie Fernandes, Workbank’s Country Head shared that opportunities exist in the Philippine market through its increasing employment rate and young workforce. Fernandes noted that while millennials and post-millennials already make up nearly half of the local workforce, majority of the unemployed also come from these segments.

Workbank’s Co-Founder and Chairman, Jaison Francis, who has had a long-spanning relationship with Filipino workers as a recruiter pointed out that driven by his malasakit for Filipinos, he realized that he could do more for them. “The Internet and mobile devices are a meaningful touch point for us because this is where we can reach the majority of applicants – this is why we exist in this space. However, we have gone beyond setting up a traditional job portal and decided we ought to invest in the people. Workbank doesn’t just connect job seekers and recruiters – it also provides guidance and support for interviews, pre-employment requirements and assistance even during their first month at work,” Francis said.

In its commitment to investing in job seekers, Workbank has also sought strategic partnerships with the likes of Zalora and Grab that provide exclusive perks like discounts for job seekers. “Our number one commitment is to invest in our talents so that they can land the jobs they aspire for. Finding likeminded partners who can help us see this into fruition is what we will consistently try to build on. We’re glad to have an already impressive roster at the moment but look forward to other partners who will be joining us in the near future”, Fernandes said.

Job seekers can begin signing up for free on their website as they gear up for their official launch in early 2019.
