How to Prepare Your Car for a Road Trip

Saturday, September 4

Planning a road trip is probably one of the exciting parts of traveling. The anticipation and the thought of being on the road with no particular time to arrive at your destination is an enthralling idea.

Unfortunately, when you finally get out on the open road after all your preparations, there's still a chance that you'll have a flat tire or something else will go wrong.

To avoid this, prepare and have contact details for people to call for assistance. For instance, having contact details of exceptional car accident lawyers can significantly ease your stress when an accident occurs. Other than this, here are ways to make sure the car is ready for the trip.

Have a Checklist

To make sure you've given the exercise the attention it deserves, create a checklist. It will enable you to mark off every item when inspected to ascertain that the car fits the trip. Key things to check include:

The Tyres

Check the tire pressure to ensure it matches the recommended pressure. You may also want to decide whether to get new tires or just a tire patching service. However, have a spare tire just in case. Also, check the tread on the tires of your car.

New Battery or a Jump Starter

Ensure the battery is in good working condition. A jump starter can also give you an extra power boost if your car isn't turning on. This usually works for those who have flat batteries. If it's been years since replacing the battery or if you've never done it, now's an excellent time.

Oil and Coolant Levels

You do not want to drive the car with no oil or water. Ensure that they are at their peak levels before you leave, and also check for any leaks. Additionally, check your engine oil and change it if necessary.

The engine oil protects vital parts of your car, so it's essential to ensure its level is correct. Low or wrong grade oil can damage the moving metal parts.

Have a Tune-Up

It's critical to have a professional check the car and carry out any repairs before the road trip. It saves you from the risks of breakdowns and getting stranded on the road.

Check Other Parts of Your Car

In addition to this, check other parts such as the wipers, lights, brake pads, air conditioning, and belt tensioner. Do not forget about your car radio, as it keeps you entertained on the long trip.

Ensure Maps and Directions Are Updated

Google Maps is an invaluable resource, but there are times you won't be able to use mobile data or Wi-Fi, which means you'll need something else for directions. Have an updated map in your car, as well as a road atlas. The latter can be helpful if you want to go for a scenic route that's not too far from the main roads.

Pack the Essentials

Make sure to have a toolbox with you, which shouldn't be too hard with a checklist. Include items such as
  • Extra Coolant
  • Oil and other fluids in case of a leak or accident
  • Disposable gloves to avoid dirtying your hands while changing a tire
  • A tow rope/chain for getting unstuck from slippery surfaces

Besides this, carry portable phone chargers, including one to use when in the car, snacks, beverages, video games, and music. Packing enough water keeps you hydrated when on the trip.

Prepare Your Documents

The documents you prepare will depend on your destination. Have your passport ready, and review the expiration dates on your insurance sticker, license plate, and driving license. Find out if there are other necessary documents to bring with you, then keep them in a separate bag for quick access.

Make The Bookings Early Enough

Don't wait until the last minute to make calls to book venues, hotel accommodation, and other essentials. Do this earlier enough to ensure you get your preferred choice at a good bargain. Doing this is especially important in peak seasons.

Have a Sustainable Plan

Decide how many hours you'll be on the road each day and where you'll get accommodation and food. Don't drive for long hours or skip sleep to get to your destination on time. Doing this can lead to burnout leading to road accidents.

Going on a road trip with family and friends ensures that you have someone else help with driving when you're too tired.

Involving everyone in making plans ensures that you're adequately prepared for the road trip. You'll have more fun and have peace of mind knowing that everything is well taken care of and emergencies will not throw you off balance.

How to Choose the Right Foundation for your Skin Type

Monday, February 4

Foundation is one of the most important makeup products you need when creating a makeup look. This will help you achieve your desired finish. You have to be careful in selecting the right foundation based on your skin type. In this article, we will explain what foundation you need for your skin type.

Normal

Most of normal skin type has a radiant complexion, few imperfections, and barely visible pores. In other words, the skin is almost perfect. For this type of skin, even the simplest kind of foundation is good enough. Girl, you're blessed!

Dry

More visible lines, almost invisible pores, dull or rough complexion or red patches are some of the characteristics of a dry skin. Dry skin can sometimes be itchy or cracked. For this type of skin, hydrating or moisturizing foundation is your best friend. Also, you're recommended to use a moisturizer before applying a foundation. Stay away from matte foundation because it will only accentuate your dry skin.

Oily

Filipinos are mostly oily skin because of the humid weather in our country. Some says we better be thankful if we have oily skin, because our skin aged slowly. But most of oily skin people have enlarged pores, and more prone to blackheads and pimples. For this skin type, matte foundation is the best for you. Oily skin girls are recommended to use a primer to fill in the pores and help your skin to produce oil slowly. If you want to make sure that your base will stay in place for a long time, you can use the baking method or use setting spray.

Combination

When your T-zone (forehead, chin and nose) area is oily and other parts of your face are dry or normal, you  have a combination skin. For this skin type, you can still use a matte foundation but you still need to bake your T-zone and put a little amount of foundation to other areas and dust it with a little powder so the foundation will not move.

Sensitive

Irritation is the one of signs of a sensitive skin. Some foundations will not work for you because of its ingredients. For girls with sensitive skin, it is advisable to use mineral foundation. Foundations with skincare benefits will help improve the texture of the skin. Just remember that when you experience itchiness and breakouts, immediately stop using the product.

Do not buy a product just because it is popular. Keep in mind that you must always consider your skin type when choosing the right foundation.

How To Protect Yourself from the Flu Virus: Prevention is always better than cure

Thursday, January 31

Influenza or flu is a seasonal virus that commonly occurs in tropical countries such as the Philippines. Influenza cases rise during the wet season but also thrived during the dry season when humidity and temperature are unusually high. In the Philippines, flu is felt all year round by Filipinos regardless of gender or age.

People frequenting public areas such as transportation hubs, markets, entertainment centers, and amusement parks to include schools and offices are at risk of acquiring the virus. The virus is transmitted or spread in several ways such as; direct contact with infected individuals and direct contact with contaminated objects. Flu can also be transmitted when an infected person coughs, sneezes, or talks, spewing nasal and throat secretions into the air.

The WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION (WHO) recently warned the general public with the possibility of another “influenza pandemic” in the country. WHO studies reveal the shortages of influenza vaccines which may post serious concerns both to the Philippine government and to the public.

Health experts therefore reiterated the need to broaden the information campaign on the importance of prevention of the spread of this virus, citing further that everyone is at risk of acquiring the virus anytime and anywhere.

People with low immune system ran more risks in acquiring the virus. Low immune system is associated with lack of vitamins, which is further aggravated by stress brought about by someone’s work environment as well as the tropical weather. Hence, taking the following tips will immensely reduce the risk of acquiring the influenza virus:

1.       Avoid crowds during flu season
2.       Disinfect contaminated surfaces
3.       Wash hands with soap and water regularly
4.       Exercise
5.       Eat healthy and avoid intake of junk foods
6.       Taking Flu shots
7.       Intake vitamin and mineral supplements

In summary, it is important for you to have a strong immune system in order for you to combat the virus. Along with following the tips as mentioned above, an immune system boosted by intake of Vitamin C can reduce your risk from acquiring the flu.

BEWELL-C Sodium Ascorbate can provide the necessary vitamins and minerals to protect you from Influenza.  BEWELL-C Sodium Ascorbate is non-acidic and safe to ingest in large quantities without upsetting your stomach. Considering the Type of Furniture Rentals for your Event

Wednesday, January 9

If you are new to event planning, then you might find this article helpful in providing you with some useful tips, especially when you are looking for tables and chairs to rent. In every event, you will need some kind of furniture. Tables are need for display e.g. during an exhibition, for registration, and you will be needing chairs when you are expecting people to turn up. Events for celebrations and ceremonies will be attended by invited guests and you will need tables and chairs for the guests and all those present.

To suit the type of event, you will have to consider a few things when it comes to table rentals. First, you will have to decide whether you will be using the round, square or rectangular type of tables.

If food is to be served during the event, then round tables would be the most practical choice. Your guests will be seated around the table and can easily converse with one another. The down side is that round tables take up more space than the square or rectangular tables.

If space is limited, then square or rectangular table rentals would be the better option. Rectangular table sitting is a popular choice for parties and also very popular for rustic weddings where the tables are joined to form a long row.

If you are planning a special event, you will need the services of a furniture rental company which provide the various types of tables and chairs for rent. Most rental company will give a discount if you rent enough tables and chairs, and the company have the suitable tablecloths to go with the type of tables rented.

Whatever event you are planning, there is a budget. Depending on the budget, you will have to plan what type of furniture you can afford. Unless it is a grand event with a fat budget to work with, it is advisable to plan within the budget given to you. Some wedding furniture are expensive and breakable and their linens delicate and expensive. If you are thinking of renting such expensive furniture, you should allocate a part of your budget for unforeseen payments.

Items that you can rent from rental companies for weddings, anniversaries, birthday parties, church events, festivals, family reunions, etc. include tents, various types of tables and chairs, wedding props, movie night, bars, tableware, carpets, heaters and coolers, tools and equipment, backdrops, portable toilets for outdoor events, etc.

What I've Learned From Pawning And Why I Did It

Monday, November 5

Do you fear doing something for the first time for the reason that you don't have an idea how things work? I realized that when you are in a situation where somebody's life depend on you, you'll be able to conquer your fear.

My advocacy

Breast Cancer Awareness is my advocacy since my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2002. When she passed away in 2010 I have vowed every year to sponsor one person who is financially incapable of at least be checked by a doctor and undergo breast ultrasound or mammogram.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and I take advantage of the discounts and promos offered by hospitals. I was to pay for someone's consultation but it was a tough month for me as a freelancer. One of my clients did not send the payment on our agreed date. I was waiting until the last two days of the month but no payment was sent on my PayPal. Even if  he'll pay me by month end, I still have to transfer the fund to my bank account and it will take 3-5 banking days before I can withdraw. I need the money right away.

My option

I was faced with a financial problem before and I was considering pawning the jewelry set I bought with my first bonus. But I was too afraid because I don't know anything about pawning. I've heard horror stories of pawnshops scratching the jewelry or appraising it too low. I also fear being judged by people. Back then, I decided to instead make a cash advance from my credit card through an ATM. It was the worst decision ever. The interest charged to me was too high and I paid for a cash advance fee.

Again, I thought of going to the pawnshop. I nervously entered the first pawnshop I saw and asked if I could have my jewelry appraised.

I asked for the appraised value of the ring and I was told it's good for P4,900. The appraiser said they only consider the value of the gold because their branch is not capable of appraising the stone.

I walked a few blocks and saw a Cebuana Lhuillier. I've only been to a Cebuana Lhuillier branch twice. The first time was when I claimed a payment remittance from a client and the second time was when I paid for my Unified Tennis Philippines membership. On both occasions, I never felt uncomfortable transacting.

The appraisal

I requested for my ring to be appraised. After a few minutes, I was handed a paper with a computation ( weight, the stones etc) and the appraised value.  I feel relieved for not settling with the first pawnshop I saw.  The ring was valued at P6,395. If I were to pawn the jewelry set, the total appraised value is P14,010. I got this for P15,000. True enough, Cebuana Lhuillier has the highest appraisal rate.

The Pawning Experience

I filled out the client information sheet and presented one photo-bearing ID. My jewelry was placed in the plastic, sealed, and I affixed my signature. I'm confident that my jewelry is safe and secured.

If you are wondering what are the valid IDs:

1.Passport; including those issued by foreign governments
2. Driver’s License
3. Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) ID
4. National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Clearance
5. Police Clearance
6. Postal ID
7. Voter’s ID
8. Barangay Certification
9. Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) e- Card
10. Social Security System (SSS) Card
11. Senior Citizen Card
12. Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) ID
13. OFW ID
14. Seaman’s Book
15. Alien Certification of Registration/ Immigrant Certificate of Registration
16. Government Office and GOCC ID, e.g., Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP ID), Home Development Mutual Fund (HDMF ID)
17. Certification from the National Council for the Welfare of Disabled Persons (NCWDP)
18. Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Certification
19. Integrated Bar of the Philippines ID
20. Company IDs issued by private entities or institutions registered with or supervised or regulated either by the BSP, SEC or IC

I was given the cash, an official receipt and the pawn ticket. Since I told the personnel that it's my first time to pawn a jewelry, she explained to me the maturity date, the expiry of redemption, and the payment of interest.

Good to know: Upon maturity date (which is one month from the date you pawned your jewelry), you can either redeem or renew. If you don't have the money yet to redeem on the first month, make sure that you renew in order to pay only for the 4% fee.

Lessons learned

Pawning your valuables is not something to be ashamed of. It's yours anyways so should you need some funding, it's your decision to choose where you could get the best value.

For a first timer like me, it's wise that I did not settle right away at the first pawnshop I had my ring appraised. It's okay to walk away. Having your jewelry appraised doesn't mean you have to pawn it right away with them. Next time, I need not waste time checking out other pawnshops. Cebuana Lhuillier has the largest network of branches. There is definitely a branch wherever I am in the country.

Pawning is the easiest and quickest way to have money if you find yourself in a tough financial situation.

Have you tried pawning? Share with me why you had to pawn your valuables and how was your experience?

Your Guide to Hiring the Best Traffic Lawyer

Tuesday, October 23

Breaking traffic laws and receiving a traffic ticket is often a nightmare and probably an annoyance to many motorists. It could reduce some drivers to tears as the impact is often huge depending on the seriousness of the offense. This could be huge fines, a record on your driver’s license for multiple years, hiking of your car’s insurance rates and more.

But, seeing flashing lights and getting pulled over shouldn’t hurt much when you get a traffic ticket attorney. Such a lawyer will help you through the ticket process, prevent the ticket from being on your record and possibly reduce the steep fine.

Thus, here is a guide to hiring the best traffic lawyer so as to ensure that you receive quality services while maintaining a clean driving record.

Tips for getting the best traffic lawyer

When you settle for the decision to hire a traffic lawyer, you require someone who will help you fight your ticket and prove you are not guilty. In extreme cases, such a lawyer will potentially reduce your fine amount and prevent your ticket from getting you a record.

Here are tips to acquire the best traffic lawyer.

Experience

This is an important quality that your traffic lawyer should have. An experienced traffic attorney has the skills to effectively handle your ticket case. You can determine the experience of a traffic lawyer by looking into their successful cases. Traffic ticket attorney Santa Ana has the experience to give you the confidence of positive results and a successful outcome.

Background check

While experience goes hand in hand with a good background check, it is still important to have inner knowledge of whom you choose to represent you in your traffic case. Thus, the first thing to look into is how credible the lawyer is. You can also research on the training and qualification of the lawyer. It is also important to carry out an online reputation check to see the comments of previous clients.

Recommendation

For many people, they will probably encounter a traffic lawyer when they get a ticket and are in need of one. However, this shouldn't be the case since you can make rash decisions and get poor services in return. Thus, start early by inquiring from the people around you about traffic lawyers. Chances are, most will probably give you the same referral depending on how good the lawyer is. You can also do an online search and generate a list of traffic attorneys within your range and drop down to the one with the best reviews or ratings.

Cost

While you keep in mind the level of experience that your lawyer has, you need to be prepared to pay the required fee. Some lawyers may require you to pay hourly or charge you a flat fee. Others may include a retainer fee while others even charge on consultation. Thus, inquire about the necessary charges in order to be prepared. The San Francisco speeding ticket lawyer law firm has the best lawyers with fair fee charges.

To wrap it up, get a good lawyer who will help you when you are in need. Do your research and acquire a traffic attorney. Thus, next time you receive a ticket, you can be assured of fighting the ticket or getting a reduction in fine charges without getting a record or increase in insurance rates.

Laundry Tips and Tricks To Get Rid of Odor This Rainy Season

Wednesday, October 10

My grandmother and my mom washed clothes the traditional way -- hand washed and even "sun bathe" the whites (kula in Tagalog) before rinsing. The clothes even get a beating with a flat wood (palo-palo). It was only when I got married that I started doing laundry and I have a washing machine. My mom would often say that clothes washed in the machine are not really clean and don't smell clean. Of course, I don't agree. And I don't want to do hand washing.

I must admit, there are times I find it difficult to make the clothes smelling fresh especially when the sun doesn't show up. You've probably experienced having your laundry take more than two days before drying up. Or you have met someone wearing clothes that smells maasim. But is the weather really to blame for malodor?

What causes malodor?

You may think you already know the real cause of musty malodor in your clothes. No, it’s not from indoor drying. Downy, the leading fabric enhancer brand in the world, recently shared the number one cause of this unpleasant smell in clothes, especially this rainy season.

The root cause is millions of germs. As a generally hygiene conscious culture, Filipinos are particular about keeping our clothes clean from bacteria secreted by our own skin and dirt coming from the environment. The distinct musty malodor is actually caused by germ growth, which may start as early as after washing the clothes, regardless of the laundry means – and not directly because clothes are dried indoors.

Can we do something about malodor?

Here are some laundry tips and tricks from Downy to help keep clothes germ-free and malodor-free.

Freshness Tip No. 1: Watch out for high-risk laundry and wash them ASAP.
The longer clothes remain damp with sweat and other bodily dirt, the more germs will grow. If the items you are washing are susceptible to more germ infestation, they should be washed as soon as possible, and with more attention too. Soiled gym clothes, your child’s PE uniform, shared towels, lampins, clothes used in food preparation, clothing worn over a wound, and healthcare worker’s uniforms are just some of the high-risk items that one should watch out for. These should be washed separately from other items. Homemakers can protect themselves from infection by wearing gloves when handling high-risk laundry.

Freshness Tip No. 2: Stop Staphylococcus!
Staphylococcus what!? A study showed that several malodor-causing germs are found to grow in different type of fabrics, including our clothes. Many healthy people normally have staph (short for staphylococcus) on their skin, in their noses, or other body areas. Most of the time, the germ does not cause an infection or symptoms, but when they do, it can make them or others sick. To avoid staph infection: keep your hands clean by thorough hand washing with soap and water; keep cuts and scrapes clean and covered until they heal; and do not share personal items such as towels, underwear or cosmetics.

Freshness Tip No. 3: Detergent is not enough.
Various global research shows that the use of water with temperature of 60 degrees Celsius or higher in laundering can be effective in killing possibly pathogenic bacteria. For the lucky ones who dry their clothes in the sunshine, they are actually killing germs as well. Unfortunately, it isn’t possible for many of us to hang clothes outside due to space limitations and the season’s weather conditions. But there can be a solution that is more accessible and controllable, like use of an ingredient known as Didecyl Dimethyl Ammonium Chloride, found in Downy AntiBac. This ingredient ruptures the bacterial cell wall, thereby preventing germ growth and minimizing bacteria population that can contribute to musty-smelling clothes.

Downy Philippines Country Marketing Manager Cedric Le Goff states, “To beat the enemy, we have to know the enemy. We need to be particular in treating the root cause of musty malodor to achieve long lasting freshness, not just during the rainy season, but throughout the all-year humid conditions.”

He furthered, “This can only be accomplished by the exhaustive prevention of germ growth in all the clothes that we wear – be it pambahay or panlakad. With Downy AntiBac, we can eliminate the germs that cause malodor in our clothes and provide long-lasting freshness.”

Keeping Bed Bugs Away and at Bay

Wednesday, September 26

Bed bugs are more disgusting than maybe you even knew. But, you’re about to find out! It’s gross, but someone needs to tell you. Honestly you need to know in order to either prevent infestation or deal with one that’s already happened. Strap on your seat belts and get on the gross-mobile. Here are 16 things about bed bugs you didn’t want to know, but have to.

Like A Power-Colored Rainbow

Red and black are known as “power colors” which is why many politicians and business people wear them. Bed bugs feel the power, too, however, and tend to gravitate toward linens donning those two colors. The exoskeleton of a bed bug is actually red in hue and scientists believe that is part of why red sheets attract more of these nasty critters. Familiarity breeds contempt, and in this case, more mites. So stick to lighter, more bug-repelling colors like white, yellow and green in your bedroom. Scientists also think those colors repel ants and spiders, so you could be getting triple benefits from the right color schemes.

If You Can’t Stand The Heat, Get Off Of My Pillow

If you are ever unfortunate enough to have to call a professional in to tackle your bed bug problem, you will see them use steam cleaners along with their chemical treatments. It takes heat to make steam, and heat is a big enemy of the dust mite or bed bug. Use a dry steam, though, as hot water alone won’t kill these persistent pests. That means, if they’re on your clothing, throw everything into a dryer on hot for 30 minutes prior to washing. Somehow bed bugs survive the washing machine, which is, just….nasty.

Take A Bite Out Of Their Crimes

Bed bugs feast on blood. To survive their version of dust-mite-puberty and make it into the adult stage they have to feed on blood once during their “immature” stages. The females need even more blood in order to produce eggs. In some ways it’s just like a human life cycle, only, you know, disgusting. It also means that bed bugs do bite you and your pets in order to feed. The thing is, they’re tiny. They don’t just bite once. That’s good news, actually, because the amount of bites you have does not directly correlate to the number of bugs that bit you. Until you eliminate them there is not much you can do about this, but as a small (microscopic, really) comfort to yourself, don’t exaggerate your reaction to the amount of bites on your body.

Move Along, Please – There’s Nothing to Bite Here

These tiny, nasty creatures like to feed in still places. That is why they infest yours beds more than any other place – because you are generally still while sleeping. IF you turn over in your sleep mid-bite, the assaulting bed bug is going to withdraw its attack. Granted, you can’t set a turn-over-to-shake-off-the-bed-bugs-timer every hour of every night, but you can shake out your sheets every morning to help dry out moisture and scare off at least some of the critters.

12 Terrible Minutes

Twelve minutes is how terribly long it takes a bed bug to feed on your blood. Yuck. Once the feeding is done the mites will retire to a more “private venue” to digest their food. Like humans, they also excrete waste. It’s disgusting but true. Those little brown, rusty spots on your sheets…? They are quite possibly bed bug waste removal spots. Double-Yuck. You can bolster your natural defenses against these 12-minute attacks by feeding yourself these specific foods that bed bugs appear to dislike.

Beggars Can’t Be Choosy

Bed bugs prefer human blood but are just as prone to biting cats, dogs and birds if they have to. The bites don’t actually hurt so you don’t know they’re happening at the time. But it’s nice to be wanted…right? Not.

Hide and Creep

Bed bugs are small, thin and sneaky. They can fit into super small areas like mattress seams, cracks in your headboards, behind wallpaper, in books and behind picture frames, etc. They can live up to an entire year without feeding if the infested area is cool enough so the fact that you don’t notice them doesn’t mean they’re not creeping around.

Clean Up Your Clutter - NOW

Look – clean up your bedroom, short-and-sweet. Bed bugs love clutter and messes so the less of those things you have, the less places they have to hide. To sum up your cleaning session you can use vacuum to remove all the unwanted tiny things away so visit https://www.vacuumjudge.com/ for more information about what kind of vacuum you should be using.

Flexible Feeding Schedules

These things know us better than we do, it seems. While it is true that bed bugs seem to prefer feeding at night, they prefer still, blood-giving things more. So if you sleep during the day, they’ll feed during the day. They’re basically available anytime of day to do the deed. They’re so flexible the should work retail.

Run, Run Run Around, They Still Get Around

Many people dream of traveling the world. What they don’t realize is that bed bugs are already seasoned travelers. They can – and do – hide in luggage, bags, folding chairs, towels (gross) and anything else you can pack. This means that you carry them with you. Great! At least they’re meals are free. Seriously, though, check your luggage and check every room you check in to for the usual spots prior to spending the night or even unpacking. Change rooms – or even hotels if necessary.

You Have to Crawl Before You Can Creep

Bed bugs can’t fly, but unfortunately that doesn’t stop them from getting around. They also aren’t long-jumpers. They crawl, though, which somehow makes them even grosser to think about. They can reach up to 100 feet each night, although they’re hoarders and homebodies who like to stay within the confines of your 8x10 bedroom as much as possible.

Sign, Sign, Everywhere a Sign

We’ve already regrettably covered the bites (more on them right below) and blood spots on your sheets. As if that wasn’t disturbing enough bed bugs also leave feces and molted skin in their nasty little wakes. The bites are usually groups in small areas of your skin and form a line or zigzag pattern. You can tell it’s a bed bug bitten area because it will eventually become raised, itchy or blistered. And it will most likely be flat and small to match its inflicting offenders. Bed bug bites can take days to manifest symptoms and your reaction to them depends on your system and tolerance. As if this wasn’t all disgusting enough, bed bugs shoot and anti-coagulant into your skin when feeding. And, the more times they have to bite you to get their feast on, the worse your rash/reaction will tend to be.

One …ONE … Good Thing

As horrible as they are, bed bugs don’t spread diseases. If the bites itch and you scratch them excessively, that could lead to an unfortunate infection. But the critters themselves are not general carriers of diseases.

Preventative Measures

Check furniture and mattresses for the usual signs of bed bugs before purchasing and bringing them into your home. Buy a protective cover for your mattress and check it frequently for holes. Vacuum your bedroom and mattress weekly to help prevent stowaways from work or school from making new homes in your home. And, if you use a public laundromat, always carry your laundry in plastic bags to and from the facility. Fold your clothing at home – it’s worth the extra effort.

Persistent and Problematic

Bed bugs reproduce quickly making them hard to kill off completely. Their eggs are resistant to many types of extermination tactics and attacking them once is most likely not going to rid your room of their nasty infestation. If you’re not going to call in a professional exterminator, you could have months of time on your hands before you can be bed bug free. Assess the issue and if it’s bad enough, call in a pro.

Gatorade Ambassador Scottie Thompson Shares Tips On How To Play Like A Pro

Tuesday, August 14

2018 PBA Commissioner’s Cup Champion Ginebra San Miguel shooting guard Scottie ‘The Hustle Man’ Thompson knows a thing or two about working his way to the top. At 24 years old, he is playing for one of the country’s most loved basketball teams and is already making a mark that he’s been dubbed one of the PBA’s fastest rising stars.

On the side, Scottie has shown a flair for entrepreneurship. He has his own barbershop—Thompson’s Sports Hair Shop; Wok Your Way, an Asian food stall; and a Pound for Pound Gym franchise.

You’re probably wondering: What’s the secret to his success?

Wonder no more. Here are top tips from The Hustle Man himself on how to play like a pro.

Learn from the best. When it comes to Gatorade ambassadors, Scottie looks up to the one and only, Michael Jordan, whose passion for the game and resilience amid challenges inspire future stars like Scottie.

And just like Jordan, Scottie is well on his way to defying odds and setting records. In a Game 3 win versus San Miguel Beermen during the 2016 PBA Governor’s Cup, Scottie tallied a triple-double with 12 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 assists. This was the first time a rookie has done the feat since Johnny “The Flying A” Abarrientos, the shortest player (at 5”7) to win PBA MVP, did so 23 years ago.

Hydrate. Just as important as good nutrition is proper hydration. Proper hydration enables top-caliber athletes like Scottie to stay on top of their game especially during crucial moments of competition. Hydration also allows athletes to recover properly after physically demanding workouts or contests.

Practice, practice, practice. Like any top athlete, Scottie understands one fundamental truth—there are no shortcuts to success. You have to put in the long hours and the hard work. You have to make the most out of every opportunity, just like Scottie did when he helped the Hapee Fresh Fighters win their first ever PBA D-League title.

“Scottie has demonstrated remarkable athletic talent and elite level skills in his young basketball career,” Pepsico Philippines Marketing Manager for Gatorade IC Sta. Maria said. “His relentless desire to succeed, on and off the court, is a valuable trait that all our Gatorade ambassadors share. We’re confident that he will inspire young athletes, especially in understanding the value of proper hydration in fueling sports greatness.”

How To Make $100 This Weekend Online

Thursday, June 28

I bet you spend more than 5 hours online just browsing your social media accounts. I think I spend around 15 hours. The difference between you and me, aside from the number of hours spent online, is that I earn.

Here are some ways you can earn money:

1. Answer paid surveys

I've been answering paid surveys online for almost 4 years already. I think this is the easiest way to earn money online. Legit survey websites don't ask you to pay anything. These are the two survey sites I participate:

2. Write articles

I started writing articles in 2006 and was paid $2 for a 150-word article. I don't own a blog back then. When I started my blog in 2013, more writing job came my way. I am now earning $50-$150 per article from direct offers. You can find writing opportunities at

3. Sell photographs

If you are into photography, you can earn money by selling your photographs online. I already have a few photos on the market and I am only using Sony Xperia Z1 phone. I recently purchased a Sony Alpha 6000 mirrorless camera to come up with more good quality photos. My photos are posted on

4. Sell stuff online

While I'm more of an online shopper than a seller, I also sometimes sell stuff online. I have an account at

Make use of the internet to your advantage. Why not create a video instead of just watching randomly on YouTube or sell stuff by creating a page on your Facebook?

I've been working from home since 2008. Turning my back from the corporate was the best life-altering decision I've made. If you are just looking for extra income, check out the links I listed.

5 Ways To Enjoy Summer On A Budget

Tuesday, April 24

April is the peak of summer and you are probably seeing beach photos posted on your friends' social media accounts. Are you still dreaming of a perfect getaway but don't have money to splurge? You are not alone. I was dreaming of visiting Boracay one last time before it goes on a 6-month rehabilitation. Well, I just returned from a 3-day vacation and I didn't spend a fortune. That photo was taken in a beach somewhere in Batangas. Nice, right?

5 Ways to Enjoy Summer on a Budget

1. Go on a road trip to a nearby beach

Batangas and Quezon are popular beach destinations. Whether you want a romantic getaway, a family bonding, or a barkada outing, there's a beach resort that will suit your need. While renting a van is the most economical and more convenient way to travel, there are also resorts that are accessible via public transport.

2. Hotel, Home Vacation Rental or Camping

There are many options for accommodation if you plan an overnight stay instead of a day tour. Since summer is a peak season, hotel rooms are expensive and most probably fully-booked by now. A great alternative is home vacation rental. Beach houses, condo units, and townhouses are usually 40% cheaper and can accommodate more people. If you are the adventurous type, pitching a tent near the beach is fun especially if you are with your friends.

3. Bring your own food

You've got to make sure first if the resort allows bringing your own food. There are some resorts that charges corkage fees while other resorts only allow food bought in their restaurant. A resort that allows cooking and grilling is the best option if you are a group.

4. Don't forget the essentials

Are you guilty of always forgetting things you should bring whenever you go on a vacation? Although there are convenience stores and shops, the items they sell are more expensive.

5. Make sure you have summer ready stuff

You are probably taking a lot of photos, and partying come night time. You've got to be ready for non-stop fun. I've got here some items from CD-R King, your one-stop media provider, and you can actually purchase these online at http://www.cdrking.com/shoponline

I used to be contented with fan but with the heat index going up, a rechargeable portable fan comes handy.

Low battery or a drained battery is unacceptable. Your power bank should also be waterproof and shockproof so you need not worry if it's durable enough.

You are probably spending most of your time in the water or near the water. We all know that not all gadgets are created waterproof. Protect your gadget with a waterproof case and bag to enjoy taking photos without the fear of getting your gadget wet.

Free up both your hands with a floating handle for action camera and take that underwater shot you've been dreaming about.

Set the party mood with your music playlist and a waterproof bluetooth speaker.

Staying up late by the beach? It could get really dark on your way back to the cottage. Or if you plan to sleep in a tent, a LED rechargeable camping lantern comes handy.

I could go on and on with things to bring on your getaway but I'm sure you've got other things in mind. One thing for sure, CD-R King has it for you.

Visit a CD-R King branch near you or if online shopping is your thing, you can order your summer must-haves at  http://www.cdrking.com/shoponline and enjoy nationwide delivery.

SamgyeOppa Korean Food House at The Food Trip Taytay

Friday, April 20

Samgyeopsal in a food park?

If  you will visit The Food Trip Taytay, you'll find a modest Korean food house at the far end. SamgyeOppa is the first samgyeopsal stall in the area and a must-try! I had a food tasting with #TeamCARA last April 4. The dishes in their menu are really delicious and most importantly affordable. I immediately sent facebook messages to my relatives living in Taytay to go to the food park.

Do you know how to properly eat Samgyeopsal?

If you love cooking, then you're gonna enjoy the Samgyeopsal experience. An order at SamgyeOppa will cost you P149 only. This includes thinly-sliced pork belly with garlic, three side dishes (bean sprouts/water spinach, kimchi, and potato balls), lettuce,  ssamjang and gireumjang.

A portable griller is placed on the table. Once the griller is hot, you can now start cooking the pork belly. It will be grilled in its own fat. Make sure you don't overcook the meat. They are thinly-sliced so it won't take long to cook. Also, turn the meat only once to keep the juice and keep the tenderness of the meat.

Take a piece of meat and dip it into the dipping sauce. Ssamjang is a mixture of soybean paste, hot pepper paste while gireumjang is a mixture of sesame oil, salt, and black pepper. Wrap the piece of meat in the lettuce. You can also put the kimchi. Wrap it and stuff in your mouth. You are not supposed to take small bites so make sure you prepare a size that allows you to eat the whole thing.

Isn't it fun? We were also served Bibimbap. It is a Korean rice bowl filled with toppings of meat, vegetables, kimchi, and egg.  I've seen a lot of people eating Bibimbap the wrong way.

You have to mix it all up before eating. I know the presentation is way too beautiful to mess it up but it was meant to be mixed. I love mine with a chili paste and a drizzle of sesame oil. This bowl is worth P99 and my favorite at SamgyeOppa.

Gimbap (gim is dried seaweeds and bap is cooked rice) is a Korean dish served in bite-size slices.  The variations of the fillings are endless. It is a complete meal itself but I eat this as an appetizer. Don't judge me :)

The Food Trip Taytay is located at 64 Rizal Ave Brgy. San Isidro Taytay, Rizal. It is very accessible by public transportation. Parking space is a bit limited. The food park opens at 4pm. There's a band playing during weekends.
